Well in theory it's a generic controller, so it should be usable for the foreseeable future. But (a) it's Casio and (b) it's designed primarily for Apple devices, so as far as obsolescence is concerned I'd be inclined to fear the worst...

Not really. It has basic midi so it could playback your songs but not much else

Casio provides an app but I've heard you can do it through Serato and many other DJ apps.

So what tracks are being used - just ones on the app? Can you load your own samples or loops into the app? I do like the effects

You can load your own samples and tracks. Or more accurately, your samples can be loaded as tracks, there's no sample pad or anything like that.

Crazy! I have noticed musical instruments forcing you to use an iphone or ipad as the main interface, and that is bad, but to make you PAY additional for the app to use that instrument? That is worse. But to make you pay via subscription or the instrument will be rendered a brick? WHOA!! No words there... none. Great review though. Scary where things are headed with tech.

You can use it with Traktor Pro, your not limited to just phone apps.

@@efrainsantiago5225 I'm unsure. Casio had a download available that mapped it to work in Traktor, but you could also make your own using NI controller editor program. The XW-PD1 is midi map-able with most controls transmitted, so it wouldn't be a stretch to think it should work.
