BAKU - In one of the most neglected places on the globe, Uzbekistan has the distinction of being the most overlooked state. Most people know little about the country, except that it’s isolated, rife with corruption and fighting some obscure insurgency. Other bits of insight people have is that the country employs draconian laws, whilst dealing with ethnic tensions and disputes over resources. All these assumptions are true, but in geopolitics, Uzbekistan is not your typical dictatorship.

I've just been in and out of Uzbekistan a few times by car. It's become visa free for a lot of Westerners and developed nations just recently. The authorities are very good and take good care of tourists/guests. It's a friendly safe place to visit. Worth a trip. Good luck to Uzbekistan!

I love Uzbekistan, I'm studying to be a video games designer and I write a lot of stories for them. For one, I needed a character from an obscure country, so I came up with Uzbekistan off the top of my head, so I did a little research into it, I ended up loving it, I learned loads about their culture and history, and started learning some of the language.

It's a wonderful country with rich a history and culture and beatiful langaues, often overlooked by many people. Hopefully Uzbekistan will improve on these fast in the coming years!

I know quite a few Uzbek guys in Moscow. It seems like an interesting country. They said it's boiling hot in the summer. I hope things work themselves out in Central Asia. Tajikistan is the worst off in that region it seems. They got the short end of the stick in terms of natural resources. Many people from down there moved to Moscow to find a better life. The rice dish called "Plov" from down there is worth trying. It's simple yet delicious. Good work as usual Shirvan.

Hello Shirvan, This is a great video as usual, I wasn’t expecting to see a geopolitics of a central Asian country. I was wondering if you are planning on doing a video about the geopolitics of Morocco and the other North African countries?

My girlfriend is Uzbek, from Tashkent, it’s always interesting to get an overhead view, but it’s also nice to get stories from someone who lived there. Find an Uzbek, ask them about their homeland, it’s a more interesting place than anyone gives it credit for

A very interesting insight into an area of the world that people do not know a lot about. Thanks for covering this country, also well done on the channel as a whole. I recently read a news article about the proposed East African Federation and I wondered what were your thoughts on this and would you be interested in covering this in a future video?

@Jože Ws Probably a misunderstanding of what I meant due to errors in translation so I'll let it slide. But to clarify I'm not calling what he is doing shit, and the word is not meant to be taken literally.

Uzbekistan’s central location reminds me of Turkeys. Both have difficulty with internal unity although Uzbekistan’s is because of terrain while Turkeys is because of ethnic strife. Both have a central location in there regions because of trade.

Thank you for the amazing breakdown! One thing I realised watching this video: I've heard before that just the Ferghana valley has comparable population to the whole of Kazakhstan, however I didn't put two and two together and realise Uzbekistan has a larger population than Kazakhstan! This suddenly put so many things in context. I too by the way, recommend brain4breakfast's video on Uzbekistan

Personally been there last month. The new president is clever. He opened up the country to visa-free travel and is reforming it. The country is safe and secure, with police presence obvious but not intimidating like in China. The people are clean and hard working. Everything is organised. Religious freedom is evident. The country is on a right trajectory. God speed Uzbekistan!
