@Judean People's Front at the current state Russia seems to be a threat to Poland, because Putin's government only interested in propaganda. Getting into detalis, what is different here is there's no ideology in Russia right now. The image of occupation western forces is needed to persuade Russian people that all of the money spend on militarisation are crucial for defense. In reality, most of those money are going into official's pockets, they spend them in western countries for wealthy life, including Poland. If you will ask Russian men if they are interested in going to military, 90% will tell they are not and this is all bulshit and waste of time. Most of them don't want to fight for oligarch's interests. Unfortunately, there's not enough unity among Russians to build the adequate government and stop this idioticy.

You have your version of history, that has nothing to do with facts. Saying that poles are "always pretending to be better" which is a pure assumption that shows that You are chauvinistic yourself. It was Lithuanian side that rejected Pilsudski's offer to recreate federation similar to Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was also Lithuania that broke all diplomatic ties with Poland till 1938, not the other way around. When it comes to "Żeligowski's Mutiny" it was not a war, it was actually Polish military operation that supposed to help Polish majority in southern Lithuania (German Census 1918 Poles at 58.0%, Lithuanians at 18.5%, Polish Census 1931 Poles at 65,9% Lithuanians at 0,9%) Lithuania destroyed over 500 years of brotherhood in the name of independence pursuit, witch they clearly had right to do, but in that situation it was obvious that cities with Polish majority like Vilnius or Grodno (over 60% Polish majority) will have to be part of Poland. Especially when it was Poland that defeated Soviet army in 1920.

It is in the absence of Poland / Polish jurisdiction when bad things tend to happen on North European Plain, not least Germans and Russians always fighting each other. All that propaganda about Poland being somehow ''annexed'' is simply bullshit. Polish borders made in 1945 are permanent since neither Germany or Russia are capable of ''annexing'' Poland. Nor do they have any intentions of doing so. Political and economic influence is another thing tho, and currently Poland is economic slave to Germany and EU and political tool of Washington. Only thing that can bring true independence to Poland is political and economic intermarium and fortunately there is progress towards that goal.

Poland as usual finds itself between a rock and a hard spot . It's obvious to me that it will have to do some clever long-term planning to forge the right alliances or else it will become a client-state of some larger power. What amazes me is that despite Poland's struggles throughout the ages, they've managed to retain their sovereignty and remain on the map. You've got to have the "fight" in your blood to accomplish this and that's why I've vowed to support them. I like fighters.
@Vitalis94
@Vitalis94 6 жыл бұрын
"Struggles throughout the ages". That's a stupid stereotype. Of 1000 years of Polish history, Poles struggled with their independence (or lacked it entirely) only in the last 3 centuries. Before that, Poland was often either a neutral power, or a regional giant, and a place where many people escaped too due to the religious tolerance. Jews, protestants, even Scots and Armenians. People seem to imagine that Poland was weak for the whole time, and that Germans are their ancient enemy, while Polish-German border was most peaceful border in whole of Europe for many centuries. Even relations with Russia weren't exactly bad all the time - it's only due to the relationship with Lithuania that Poland even focused on Russia at all. It's possible that without Polish-Lithuanian union, Poland would be focused primairly on the West.
@10hawell
@10hawell 6 жыл бұрын
being a client state empire from the other side of the world like the USA is currently what Poland always dreamed of. As long as we are not attacked, we may not be a slave to the United States. And that we have common goals from the USA - stabilize eastern Europe under the dictation of the United States and destabilize Asia and keep Western Europe dependent on the US is an additional advantage. Vitalis Just to be directed to the west, it is not worth it for us after the German nobility murder Otto III because since then Germany does not care for Poland as a vassal, but for us to be conquered.
@matthewjackson9615
@matthewjackson9615 6 жыл бұрын
Bear in mind that the US is backing off the European continent and only maintains a relationship with Poland because it is to the advantage of the United States. Anyway, geopolitics is a complicated affair and,in my humble opinion, what really matters is whether or not a country can maintain its will to survive no matter the circumstances. It seems patently obvious to me that Poland has chosen and will continue to choose to survive no matter what.
@Quickshot0
@Quickshot0 6 жыл бұрын
Due to the current Presidency, the chance Western Europe will start down its own path is becoming ever greater. Basically because the USA is no longer being seen as a reliable nation by many there. And if they aren't reliable, then one has to look out for ones self. Recently also one of the large German tank producing companies combined with a French equivalent. And they recently released a new tank demonstrator with a German chassis and French turret. So this could indeed be a sign that they're starting orientate away in a more serious way. If that is the case, Poland might in the coming decade have to reconsider its geopolitical situation.

2:47 It is completely absurd to say that Poland ever sought an alliance with the Soviets to guarantee its sovereignty. After WW2, Poland was occupied by the Soviets, who brought the new "Polish" government with them. It was a communist dictatorship of Soviet puppets, who could not "experiment" with any strategies. Otherwise they would end up like governments in Budapest in 1956 or Prague in 1968. To enter into an alliance, you need to be a sovereign state, and Poland wasn't.

The first few hundreds years of Polish history was not a grand unified kingdom but a slither of land on the map that was constantly changing. By 1500 or so when it was a commonwealth was when you have similar borders to today, so 300 out of 500 years of its history as a proper country is fair to say most of its history has been dominated by outsiders.

@@mrniceguy7168 WTF, so much wrong with your comment. Absolutely not fair to say most of its history. 1) Poland's history is over 1000 years, not 500. It has been a state since 996 AD, At first a Duchy until 1025 when it became a Kingdom. 2) The commonwealth did not exist in 1500 3) 1500 is not when Poland started to have similar borders to today, that was in ~1000AD. By 1500 the borders were no longer like today. Its the exact opposite of what you said. 4) "few", "grand", "slither", "proper" are vague, ambiguous, and objective. What is "proper", how much land exactly is "slither"? Now Russians are really hating Poland for no reason, but they also hate Ukrainian language and by extend Polish because they view Ukrainian language as inferior because it has a lot of Polish language in it. @Imper 5 They may never have lost their talent, but You can't build your prosperous society, economy or alliances with countries like Poland just on terror and threats. Most of the society feels that they owe us a lot for what they did, and continuing to point at us with rockets will not help their cause in PL. We've been there before with Russia, with wars in every century ever since the XVth. After stopping being a regional superpower ourselves and experiencing RU domination or occupation twice, we will just ally with anyone powerful enough to beat them. If they destroy the oligarchy and become a normal state, they will no longer feel such a pressing need for nukes. :) As for oligarchy in Poland, remember that we have been already calling ourselves the "Republic" back in XVIth Century. Accordingly, we are and have been kind of different from Russians. It takes a proper spirit to tolerate any absolutum dominium, and we're not having it. Especially not after undergoing the Russian "therapy".

@Imper 5 As for all those fancy hypersonic tools for murderers, recognising Russians as non-superhumans implies any of their equipment being replicable, including by stealing. And who could be the ones to do the stealing and replicating? Maybe Russia is already fighting its second Battle of Kulikovo with a foreign power, without even realising. Someone has to provide the road, and the belt.

Not all is lost. Fertility rate is growing in Poland. Its about 1,4 , depends on a city. Polish government really opened up its coffers and implemented social programs for young couples/parents. Russia on the other hand has also aging population and a lot of other problems like HIV epidemic, organized crime, alkoholism, income inequality. Currently all those issues are not being addressed by the Russian government which will make them worse in the future.

Unless the government can somehow: 1. Pay for the entire childhood of a new child and 2. Convince people (with money or something) to stay in Poland, Poland's population will continue to decline. Singapore has tried to subsidise raising children in order to boost birth rates but it doesn't doesn't work and Poland also has to deal with they massive emigration issue.
@maqus79

you think wrong. Even if the grants do not help in increasing the population, thousands of people from the east come to Poland (and they are culturally convergent people, for example, 2 million Ukrainians whom Poland has recently received). Children who begot will be 100% Poles and take over Polish values. So Poland will not have a natural increase problem for the next 100 years.

Sorry it is not. Polish program 500+ is a social program (not about fertility rate, and government admit this). The program is not working, we had ~1.3 and have ~1.4 and spend bilions... Poland law must change to give people more freedom and possibility to develop. Now almost every decision is dependent by civilian officer witch is an nightmare. People don't make kids cause country instructs parents how they can nurture they kids - education, vaccines, etc. Taxes are high, biurocratics is very big, courts are ineptly and slow. This must to change so kids can born.

People are mostly concerned with proving their country is 'the best' and why other countries are failing/evil because of muslims/the eu/zionism/etc, instead of learning about and viewing the world in a objective way. People really don't seem to get the message of this channel, which is rather ironic. Anyway great video as always. Thanks.

Hmmm I think Polish people get the message. We understand that from time to time we or the germany or russia are stronger or weaker. But when we are stronger we don't invade them, and when they are stronger they invade us - that is a BIG difference. We don't exterminate 7 millions of people, we don't rush few more to Siberia. This is true that we don;t want it to happens and we secure our position by doing deals with USA, but also with rest of Europe and try to expand the NATO and EU it self so there can be trade not wars. But they are some countries that wave a different point of view.

@luzak067

I am Pole and I'am interested in geopolitics. . First of all Poland is an extremely important land due to its geographical location. Poland lies on the Central European lowland and that passes the main trade routes connecting Asia with Europe as well as potential directions of military attacks (both east to west, and west to the east) as there is no mountain ranges limiting projection of military power. We are as well gate from Rimmland to Heartland - areas described in the Mackinder concept, considered to be the father of contemporary geopolitics. Poland currently is on the crossroads and we have to answer the question. Do we want to integrate with German system (EU) or building something new with USA. Orienting ourselves on Germany, we provide somehow economic stability and integration with western Europe, however, in this way we lose the ability to decide about ourselves and we become the buffer zone of Germany, depriving ourselves of building our own core as it was in time of Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth were we have been more powerfull than our neighbours but what is more important Germany can't provide SECURITY for Poland as its army is weak, underfunded and can not face the danger of Russia. In another hand USA needs Poland as a wedge embedded between Russia and Germany to prevent them from cooperating. The US has sufficient military strength, in contrast to Germany, to guarantee Polish security and they support construction of Intermarium - Polish geopolitical project gathering Central European countries being some kind of successor of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, .as it was confirmed by President Trump, taking part in the first historic summit of the Intermarium countries in 2017. Previous government opted for EU and Polish-German cooperation but current one is clearly in favor of the USA and efforts are now being made that the USA supports Poland economically in the construction of this project. If the Intermarium will rise, it will have over 100 million people and access to 3 seas : Baltic, Black and Adriatic becoming the largest and most populous state in Europe after Russia. I have no idea why You did't mention Intermarium in this video as it is a MAIN topic among polish geopoliticians. As Pilsudski - Polish nationa hero said : "Poland will be great or it will not be at all"

Russia is not able to take over the whole of Ukraine. There is no money for war. Nothing destroys her alone. During the USSR, 40% of the military budget was spent, while the US spent 5%. Currently, Bosnia is going trough her biggest political crisis since the war. The bosnian croat politicians, backed by Zagreb have managed to induce an artificial crisis, trough the Constitutional court, where we are not able to implement the results of the oncoming elections in October this year. No implementation means no government. No government means increasing the power of the separatist Serb entity of republic of srpska and the separatist regions where bosnian croats live. An armed conflict could be possible if the Serb republic tries to use this anarchy and tries to secede.

westerners love to slam Visegrad. but the situation can't be compared. e.g. my country, Sweden, has almost full control over Russian banking and telecommunications. Germany has the Czech mountains in the south and dense forests on the border with Poland. geographical defense. and most importantly: Western Europe hasn't been invaded by all of its neighbors several times during the last 100 years, unlike Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Croatia or Serbia. these nations have been destroyed several times during the last century. starting as part of the Austro-Hungarian empire under the Habsburgs, leading to non-existence during the war, to several wars and invasions ever since. it is better to compare this dilemma with nations in similar situations: Angola, Israel, Palestine, Chechnya, Armenia and Georgia. of course these nations are xenophobic. remember what a couple of thousand Bavarian workers did in Czechoslovakia after 70 years of migrating to the country? a country of 26 million lost about 10 million of its population during and after the war (due to genocide, mass-deportation and mass-emigration). Poland completely transformed geographically. do not forget that Czechoslovakia was allied with France and Poland with Britain. the Munich agreement should also tell you a story of how trustworthy the West European nations are. and lets not forget that the Soviets weren't equal allies. this union of Central European nations, which have been forced to be part of Eastern Europe do share the fear of foreigners due to history. the German immigrants murdered millions of Poles, Czechs and Slovaks during the war. are you so surprised by the reaction of Poles, Czechs, Slovaks and Hungarians to the refugee crisis? add to that, assholes that blow themselves up and run trucks through the crowds of people. and lets not forget the tragedy of Kosovo: a region within Serbia, which was full of refugee camps after the war. ending with a bloody civil war just 50 years later. immigration can cause issues for the existing population. Kosovo, Czechoslovakia and Israel are prime examples... we may not agree with the strategies of these 4 nations, but stop being a typical western cunt and understand the issue. the world you live in, where your existence is guaranteed, isn't shared by all nations.

Kudos. Accurate in most ways except that you have severely underestimated the United States response time to preserve Poland. You should review the overwhelming superiority of American air assets. And it's strategic lift capabilities. Then consider the American Stryker Brigade Combat Team . Ideally, a Stryker brigade should take only 96 hours to get into action, with an entire division being able to hit the ground 120 hours. This, while still being survivable and heavily armed enough to hold off medium enemy formations. And then, of course, you have three divisions of United States Marines. 72 hours for a MEU. 96 hours for a MEB. 120 hours for an entire Division. Now, you might consider, correctly, just how important Poland is to United States Foreign Policy in its ability to offset both Russia AND Germany. Current predictions of United States and Poland's relationship is that the United States will make Poland the Economic powerhouse in Eastern Europe, akin to what it built in South Korea. Precisely for the same reason.

Czeekaj: It's worth nothing that the 'European' Army, with Germany at it's center, can't even field a whole division. 80% of NATO's forces are provide by the United States and Turkey. Germany vetoed a Polish request for NATO bases in Poland. This required the United States to provide, through a bi-lateral agreement, with Poland, the stationing of American Troops in Poland, and establishment of it's own bases there.

If there is a conflict with Russia. Russia will want to block European ports. That Americans could not chew equipment to Europe. They will detonate nuclear weapons of sufficient power on the Atlantic near the European coast to trigger a tsunami to destroy the port infrastructure. This should give Russia time to occupy Europe. As for Armi German. This is a joke right now. In addition, we must remember that Germany has always been a silent ally of Russia. Despite the alliance in NATO, Poles do not pretend to be Germany.

If you want "a bit of emotion from time to time" just go back to watching top 10 lists. As for attention span, did you ever try watching videos at double speed? I personally can't go back to regular speed.

More about current politics than geopolitics, unfortunately. Could have said so much more about the history of fights for control of river systems, importance of crucial land choke points, soil fertility, trade routes past and present, crucial importance of creating a coordinated political body between the Baltic and the Black seas, which is at the core of Polish geopolitical aims since at least 14th century and so on. Great channel, lots of room for improvement. Keep it up!

Very good informations, Shirvan. Polish geopoliticians are saying the same words. Some of them speaks even that Poland has to be imperialistic (in the XVI and XVII century way, not XX century totalitarisms), becouse if it doesn't, it will be client state. Unfortunatelly, our politicians are democrats, so they thinking in short term and populist manner, but if we faceing so strong historical opponent, we desperetly need long term plans (not "long plan" like in communists countries, to be clear). We also need money... I don't mean loans, but a good trade partners and healthy - accessible for masses economy, in which our politicians are creepy-bad. Now our prime minister is keyensist with solidarity for unions, we have also high taxation on work and growing costs of living. Polish debt is also growing, as well state-own companies on our stock exchange (now state-own companies are worth more than 50% on our stock ex, privates have less than 50%). Our army is underfounded, has many vacats and really bad locations (eg. Warsaw isn't protected at all), and those informations aren't secret. The future doesn't look colorfull and our allience with USA is shacky, becouse USA supports Israel more than us, and Israel has political-financial claims on us, and USA failed to stifle israelian claims. Maybe we should go with Germany and China? Our geopoliticians sometimes asking that questions...

going with germany is actually the best strategy longterm. The german economy is always in need of "less advanced" products and within the EU poland can sell their stuff competitive. Outside of the EU free market they cant compete with china or india also germany has 0 intention of attacking poland. Germany wants to maintain the status quo or a bit more EU, but under no cercumsatnces a war within EU borders. The US as an ally is like playing Poker...

Variation in allies is key I'd say. Good example is the pipeline from Denmark. To help guarentee Polish long term energy sources. Without to much influence from Russia which could dictate an unfair price. This is why as many allies as possible would be key. Polska should protect the złoty and currency. Including potentially domestic energy production is key for her sovereignty. I am pro-nuclear as it makes you self sufficent and potentially an exporter. Promoting reginal ties and Germany would approve of low carbon and could stop using so much coal. But many are not and liquid reactors had been underfuned since the Nixon era. Look at LTFR energy production, it can be done and China seems to be the most warming to the idea as it is very important long term for China with such dense population and energy needs for industry.

The bad thing with Germany (and by that with EU) is their pressure towards Russia and China. Germans have much more money and political power than us, so they want push back american influence in EU, and that's bad for NATO. It's bad for us, not only becouse we're allies to USA, but moreover we need NATO (Baltics too) and Germany can't defend us, becouse they cannot defend even themselfs with that army. Next thing against alliance with Germany is their rivalry with us for who would be main station for Belt&Road. We have better geography and position, but our infrastructure need founds - Germans contrary, but we winning with them politically becouse China would prefer 3 players to divade than only one (I mean Germany; Russia's shrinking and always will be Chinese client due to economy and population). Also Germans want us to be their puppet and they always looked down on us and other central-european states, like their colonies.

Tbh, I can kinda see how people might think that. I see where you're coming from - I don't share that whole-sale, because they are effectively a buffer state between Western Europe and Russia and the UK seemed even more 'meh' in regards to the EU because they got all of the trade benefits without really having to commit to anything - but yeah, I can see why people might think that.
