The #UAE craves #power disproportionate to its size. The state has steadily transformed from the Manhattan of the Middle East to the region’s 'Little Sparta’.

Sparta was a pretty crappy city state whose constitution ensured it would decline into irrelevance. It's militia of citizen-soldiers wasn't even that great compared to its contemporary rivals, and in any case, it couldn't even bring the full force of its army to bear in any conflict because then their slaves would revolt. What country would want to be compared to Sparta?

Different to other of your videos, this one seems to have been quite sanitized. It seems more like an eulogy (UAE can't do any wrong, every action is justified and rational). It doesn't provide the critical view of issues as in other Caspian Report videos. Like the involvement in the Sudan crisis. Or the role in the Yemeni war. Always in sides that oppose KSA interests. I'm puzzled.

It's one of the reasons why Saudi Arabia has their Vision 2030. Mohammed bin Salman understood very quickly they can no longer rely on fossil fuels, they saw how UAE is now less reliant on fossil fuels. At one point fossil fuels were pretty much 100% of the UAE's economy, now it's 30% that is massive diversification of the economy. And MBS can see they need to diversify the economy as soon as possible otherwise they will get left behind.

I don't think I fully agree with the statement "Politics, after all, has no relation to morals." Yes, there are mechanisms that help to approach a situation rationally, but there is a contradiction to be found in Shirvan's narrative. For example, one could argue that Arab solidarity with Palestine is not in the interest of Saudi Arabia. And if politics were amoral, why would there be Millennium Development Goals in the UN, like eradication of extreme poverty.

“Going commando” is a way of saying that you're not wearing any underwear. The term refers to elite soldiers trained to be ready to fight at a moment's notice. So when you're not wearing any underwear, you're, well, ready to go at any moment - without pesky undies in the way.

I wouldn't say anti-woman, you must be confusing them with Saudi Arabia but here's the thing with regards to LGBTQ+ it's not a problem to them. Yk why? Cause most people they work with are from countries with a lot of homophobia and homophobic laws. For example: Most of their foreign workers are from homophobic countries. And no they are not slaves. I have many family memebrs there and I assure you, we are not helpless and in need of your infantalizing white sympathies Anyways the lack of visibility of queer people is actually a positive to these workers you are so hell bent on protecting. I have literally heard how people will be like, "Oh don't work/study/live in EU or America, you will have gay creeps influence, stay in the Middle East" Like if you want homophobia down in UAE, it will only happen when a bunch queer billionaires stand at their door and wave wads of money at their faces.

Not a single criticism and where it was not possible to avoid mentioning some topics, an amazing glossing over of the facts. Truly, the UAE is Utopian...or at least that's what the video wants us to think.

Iran is showing increasing signs of belligerence and aggression. They have been investing heavily more into missiles, drones and drone go fast boats. They have done limited attacks on foreign ships with their Republican Guard Navy but I think they are getting ready for a full scale Strait of Hormuz blockade. They are already supplying a lot of gear to the Houthis in Yemen and it's having a devastating effect on global shipping. The results of this is emboldening Iran to make their next move.

I hope the regime fails and the UAE people get proper democracy and freedom one day, mainly for their role in killing Egypt's hopes of democracy, they weren't fighting the muslim brotherhood they were out to remove any newborn democracy, made sure Libya was destabilized supporting general Haftr to fight the elected government, ruined Tunisia's decade of democracy by backing up Kais Said who issued an emergency declaration firing the prime minister, freezing the work of parliament for thirty days, and assuming all executive power, effectively initiating a self-coup, now also supporting Hamidti in Sudan's civil war.. it wasn't only UAE at play, Saudia also had a hand in all three, these gulf monarchies want to lull their population stay in power for life and keep it in the family so the existence of any democracy nearby is a threat.
