As far as ""cynical"" reviewers go youre probably on the higher end of them. Cynical but not in a malicious or kinda uncomfortably forced way more in a "well I didnt like this aspect of a game so im gonna obviously talk about it" way. And even then in most cases you usually find some scraps to compliment as well even in a game you dont really like as much.

Hmm, interesting video. There are parts of this video that made me scratch my chonmage, and as a talented reviewer myself, It is my duty to mention this so that you can make improvements to your content. There are many parts in the video where you aren't being objective enough as a reviewer and mention things being "awkward", "pointless", etc. Which are all negatives. Making them objectively bad. But you then make those terms seem like they are positive and that they add to the games. Not to mention that some of the analysis you did is just wrong. Like saying exploration in Gekka no Yasokyoku is "pointless wandering around". Iga-san put his heart and soul into making that game into a flawless masterpiece. However, that description does fit the Castlevania's after Symphony. Also, the Dark Souls/Diablo parts could've been removed. Give these honest critisisms some deep thinking and I'm sure you can overcome these flaws in future videos ✌ However, you did brought up great games like Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Alex Kidd and Wonder Boy 3, and a lot of other good games, and I really liked the Yu-Gi-Oh segment as it not only highlighted one of the best video games in the series (Forbidden Memories for the magical PS1 is sugoi as well), but it also respectfully praised the late Takuhashi's magnum opus franchise with grace! I also see that your other videos features a lot of great JRPGs and Japanese games so I can tell you that you will definitely become a good reviewer with some more skills and training! You are just not quite there yet. Now, I have to mention my inclusion in this, and I will say that I have huge acting experience since I have been on KZbin for 8 years now. I would also prefer to be called an Objective Reviewer instead of being called an "angry reviewer". it just so happen that a lot of games I cover are bad games that people pretend are good. That's the beautiful thing about opinions. You can be cynical, you can be critical and you can hate something, but you can still love it and play regularly for some reason. When people get dismissive about negative takes, they miss the forest for the trees. You can have standards and be vocal about how things should be better while being appreciative of what's good in them, since things like games tend to be very complex products that went through a lot of hands. And with that said, I wasn't expecting Alex Kidd to be in there, that game sucks, my god (I like it too though).

That is so true about the negativity of the gaming circle. Though I'd like to believe the most cynical audiences of games are perhaps in a turning phase, while still having plenty of pride to express. They know what they like is good, why they are good, and played enough to compare what's better. Perhaps gain a little joy revering over how their tastes are above others who've known less because of their still limited experiences. It is omnipresent as generations of people come in and the current generation grows, but for that group, they either walk on feeling cynical on all things, or find it exhausting and tuned it down, focusing on the postives too. I suppose both attitude can exist in a balance too. As for the youtube space, strong emotions do sell. Being cynical draws a clear line between liking and disliking something. With that, audiences can more easily relate and resonate to those personalities and content. Used to be a way more cynical person, but once I've grown to appreciate games and media in general even more, criticisms never comes from ill intent and I always try to look for the positives amidst the wrongs. Looking at every experiences as a chance to enrich yourself is key to growing a more critical mindset for your future experiences.

It's one of my favorite games of all time and if I can help someone, esp. a youtuber see the sparkling diamond underneath some of the stuff people have against the game, I'm happy for the opportunity to do so. Was intending to someday do a playthrough of my own on my channel, even, or at the very least a couple 'how to' videos (kinda like the ones I got on my channel, like how to kill Magus really easy in CT or how to easily level capsule monsters early in Lufia 2).

This was a nice video. I do always love hearing people just say what games they really love. Been meaning to do that myself with my own utterly absurd top 10 list. That said, I never really saw you as being THAT cynical...or rather there's a difference between being cynical and being faux angry. That said it's starting to feel like the trend of angry reviewers is going away and being replaced with the inverse. The "actually bad games were secretly good" reviewer or something. I'm starting to miss the hate. I dunno. We live in strange times.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
Straight up, I had a part in the video originally where I talk about how KZbin seems like it's mostly "Yes men" now, and everything is amazing all the time. I hate it. It's cool to love stuff, but not everything is a masterpiece, because if everything is amazing, then nothing is amazing. Sometimes things just suck, and you can dig them, but they still suck. I've got a working theory on this, that everything is starting to suck more and more because people are trying to be super positive about everything. We're not holding media to standards, and movies and games are getting away with all sorts of awful shit for a myriad of reasons. Some political, some contrarian, some just bad taste idk, but horse armour used to be bad and now horse armour is in every game because we had the mindset of "Live and let live". Now games are designed to make people buy more shit in them instead of offering jingling keys for $5. People say the slippery slope is a fallacy, I say they've been sliding for years and haven't noticed. I had a brush with faux angry in my Digimon World 4 video and it still makes me cringe, but overall I think I've avoided it. Also if you make a top 10 list, chuck it my way. I love seeing what makes up peoples core tastes as well, especially when it's full of weird shit

I found your channel years ago after looking up Dragon Ball Z Legendary Super Warriors on KZbin and finding like 2 videos on it. Havn't seen it in a while, but I do feel like you were very kind to it. Then I saw you had a video on Digimon World 4 and was overjoyed to hear you shit on it. A fucking digimon game where I pretty much don't digivolve and the digimon fight with goddamn swords and guns??? I'm still as disappointed by that as I was when the game first came out, so yeah negativity is the best. Keep it coming.

Even if you might come across as being cynical in your videos, I feel like a lot of other game reviewer channels would just shit on most of the games you cover in your videos for the sake of comedy and not really give them a fair chance. But still, I really appreciate you taking the time to share some games you love. I obviously don't think there's anything wrong with being critical or negative about things, but I feel like being able to just appreciate things for what they are, flaws and all, and just be able to share the fact that you think "this thing is pretty cool" is equally important.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
That's how I've always approached games, tbh. If you dig it, warts and all, that's a genuine admission of enjoyment and love. It's the people who scream that their game has no flaws that makes me awfully suspicious as to whether they even like the game, or whether they're in a video game cult.
@wombocorp2 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum It's weird, it's like people really want to legitimize why they like something. It's kind of sad. I know I'm the most critical of games I love BECAUSE I love them. If I don't love something, I might even be more positive about it because I just don't really care enough to think about it too hard. I feel like in doing that you also just alienate more people and make them try to find whatever reason they can to shit on it. Like you said, people are contraian by nature.

You just wanted to say Jinglehunter, didn't you? 🤣 Diablo 2 also reaches 11/10 for having a cow level. Dark Souls was the only time I thought the last boss was right there 4 separate times, and was blown away each time. Whaaaat, you mean the Crissaegrim wasn't perfectly balanced in SOTN? Damn interesting Speedrun scene, too. Ogre Battle, it's a board game you can shove on any enumator. Knight of Lodis can be deep, but good lord it's a blast. Getting Reborn on Switch just to relive the glory days of burning out retinas at 3am trying to make the dumbest party imaginable. TO has some absurd challenge run fun, and that tone rules.

You show on screen japanese footage for most of them games. So I'm genuinely not sure if you mean the super famicom version of FF4 or the even more dumbed down American release (for some reason called FF2, I couldn't find any explenation for that on the internet.)
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
Either or. I'm not fussed with the intricacies, I just play Japanese games for videos because it doubles as reading practice and footage capture. It's effectively the same thing with a few different numbers and some uhhh... localization.

I'm glad someone picked up on it. I've had this idea for a while, but since it's not a 'real' video, I wanted to see how fast I could feasibly get it out, and it still be watchable. The script isn't great, and the editing is super bare bones and far less consistent than my usual stuff, but it's out! I've wanted to do smaller videos for a while where it's lower effort but still fun to work on and fulfilling. It's never quite as fulfilling as the bigger, proper projects, but it's good to try new stuff, even if it ends up a bit shit. I appreciate the kind words, and I'll know in the future that you're one person I can't trick with low effort stuff :^)

Lol, I get you were being positive and I like Alex Kidd too. I first played it when the psp came out and I'd picked up the Sega mega drive collection. Now, I'd like to say that while the game is unique. I hate the fact that you can have a very good run of a level, and then just die to a random game of janken. Why make the boss battles run on pure luck?

I played Grim Dawn with buds a few years back, I still prefer Diablo 2 probably because of nostalgia, but GD was legit.
