I know the original translation isn't very good, but they did one thing that made a lot of sense. At the beginning, when sent to Mist, the king gives you a "package" to deliver, and it shows up in the inventory as "package." That makes more narrative sense since the word Bomb isn't in the name, making it more likely that Cecil wouldn't put two and two together.

Correct in fact once Rosa is FORCED to join all the items that use spells for free are pure CRAP Rydia is still better off using her LV 1 spells instead even the Comet spell using Rod for Rydia only usable in the FINAL dungeon hits for CRAP for damage barely 200 to 300 PER Use.

13:23 - I'm sure I don't need to tell you this, but the reason "Monk" has 62K HP is because the intended way to end the battle is by bitchslapping him with Cecil's sword. Apparently, no other attack triggers the end of the battle. Which is ridiculous. I also had no idea items were so terrible, or that Cagnazzo was so strong. Weird.

Edge's name in Japanese was originally Edward and Edward's was originally Gilbert. Gilbert was 7 Characters long and the so translators gave him edge's name and made Edge which was originally his nickname in to Japanese version IIRC.

Pretty sure every monster but 3 have Cure1/Potion as all their drop slots until Mysidia or something. I don't think they considered the utility of an early premo drop outside of the secret summons.

I give you the RNG blessing! I used this item's only run to springboard a hard NG+ playthrough, and spent a bit getting that Onion Sword so Kain's jump could one-shot all the bosses. Felt pretty good after being so restricted, ngl.

I'm working on this second tail just to be stacked. Already have 5 Adamant Armors. Then, I'm going to demolish new game + and finally see those optional bosses after nearly 20 years.

Not items only, but the only way I managed to complete FFIV on the PSOne all those years ago was by spamming the item duplication glitch for Excalibur II and then Edge(lord) Zeromas into submission with the Throw ability. It was right at the very end of the summer holidays and I was desperate to finish the game before the school term started.

I almost gave up two days before I did. Hell, before I started I enabled Save Anywhere and twice in my playthrough I enabled a 500K XP cheat to get to Lvl 70 or else I would have only been somewhere around Lvl 55. So even saying I "beat" the game doesn't indicate (on DS, anyway) that I was any good at all at it.

It feels so bizarre seeing a game actually beat your attempt at an Items-Only challenge. I will never understand RPGs' obsession with having all these attack items that do fuck-all for damage. Either make them worth using (and limit the number you can get, if you're concerned about them being abused too badly), or don't bother giving them to me at all.

OR let them be used by those who cannot equip them. It was a mechanicism I remember from older DND... like a Thief can attempt to read a magic scroll with a chance at success to cast magic or a "wand of magic missile" could be used by non-MUs.

I have looked into it, and unless I modded the game, it's impossiburu, unfortunately. The only way to get damaging items is for foes to drop them, which means you gotta kill them first. Maybe for bosses-only?

This was always my OG thumb. KZbin allows you to upload 3 to test which are better. I like this feature as I can never settle on one, so using 2 or 3 is a neat way to justify my time spent in thumbnail creation. That said, I ended up just going with Rydia, i like green

NOT really very FEW 'ATTACK" items exist and for the elemental Fang items the enemies that CAN drop them even on the PIXEL remaster really NEVER WILL EVEN AT lv 99 but atthe same time the Rod weapon that Rydia joins with while it tops around 30 damage its effect along with ICE rod as a ITEM are pretty much useless as soon as Rosa herself joins the party. But IF youy allow yourself to THROW weapons for Edge they is easily doable just NOT on the DS remake where Even AT lv 99 even the FINAL bosses Big Bang still 1 shots the party since on the DS version Big Bang does like 6000 damage and a lv 99 party has LESS HP then that. The elemental Fragment items even on the Pixel remaster are NOT buyable items and MUST be gotten as item drops/chests only and too bad the enemies that can drop them almost NEVER DO.

I seem to remember getting my party members to survive Big Bangs in the high 70s, but that's probably a function of their given augments because Edge would still die half the time due to damage variance. IIRC stat growths at level 70 and up were... nothing, unless you had augments equipped.

I entered the DS remake final dungeon AT LV 55 and didn't survive even 1 turn against ANY of the NORMAL enemies their but Big Bang still 1 shots a lv 99 party by stll hitting them for 6000+ damage LV 99 party members still BARELY have 5500 HP. Its just that attack items nearly ALL of them DO CRAP for damage well BEFORE Edge joins the party.
