I know the original translation isn't very good, but they did one thing that made a lot of sense. At the beginning, when sent to Mist, the king gives you a "package" to deliver, and it shows up in the inventory as "package." That makes more narrative sense since the word Bomb isn't in the name, making it more likely that Cecil wouldn't put two and two together.

Apparently, no other attack triggers the end of the battle. Which is ridiculous. I also had no idea items were so terrible, or that Cagnazzo was so strong. Weird.

Edge's name in Japanese was originally Edward and Edward's was originally Gilbert. Gilbert was 7 Characters long and the so translators gave him edge's name and made Edge which was originally his nickname in to Japanese version IIRC.

Have you considered trying an items-only run of FFX-2? That game showers you with a wide variety of items, with many being purchasable and some generous drop rates from enemies. An items-only run could be interesting. Plus, if you're willing to permit the use of stealing, the very first enemies of the game have grenades you can nab and toss back at them, meaning it may be possible that you can do one of these runs without the usual caveat of "you can beat the whole game with items... except for the first couple of battles where you don't have any/enough attack items yet". A run of the original FFX could be possible, but as I recall, that game is less generous with attack items, and also, attacking and buffing items are used from a seperate command called "Use" instead of the usual "Items" command. The only character who has Use by default is Rikku, a character who you have for about 10 minutes at the start and is then absent for about half the game, and other characters can't learn Use until a few hours into the game when you get your first key spheres to cross over into Rikku's section of the sphere grid, and you'd have to do several boss battles and a few other mandatory encounters without any attack items before you get to that point, and I don't know how many mandatory itemless fights you're willing to go through before being allowed to formally begin the run.

I've actually conceptualized how they'd both begin! You can even steal some sort of Thunder damage from the first proper stage in FFX-2, so it's immediately viable. FFX is definitely do-able. All you gotta do is steal from fish with Rikku and grind Tidus until he has Use, which I think was about 18(?) levels. Someone else has done those already, so I'll have to differentiate them somehow, but I'm currently balls-deep in a Final Fantasy 6 items only run, which I think just died because I've over-glitched and broken it. There's another FF game I have my sights on too, and I'm really excited to get into that, because I've only played it once and have practically no idea how it functions or whether it's do-able past the intro. I appreciate the recommendations! I've got a pretty comprehensive list, currently editing a Lufia one as we speak, but it's always nice to add extra titles.

I give you the RNG blessing! I used this item's only run to springboard a hard NG+ playthrough, and spent a bit getting that Onion Sword so Kain's jump could one-shot all the bosses. Felt pretty good after being so restricted, ngl.

I almost gave up two days before I did. Hell, before I started I enabled Save Anywhere and twice in my playthrough I enabled a 500K XP cheat to get to Lvl 70 or else I would have only been somewhere around Lvl 55. So even saying I "beat" the game doesn't indicate (on DS, anyway) that I was any good at all at it.

NOT really very FEW 'ATTACK" items exist and for the elemental Fang items the enemies that CAN drop them even on the PIXEL remaster really NEVER WILL EVEN AT lv 99 but atthe same time the Rod weapon that Rydia joins with while it tops around 30 damage its effect along with ICE rod as a ITEM are pretty much useless as soon as Rosa herself joins the party. But IF youy allow yourself to THROW weapons for Edge they is easily doable just NOT on the DS remake where Even AT lv 99 even the FINAL bosses Big Bang still 1 shots the party since on the DS version Big Bang does like 6000 damage and a lv 99 party has LESS HP then that. The elemental Fragment items even on the Pixel remaster are NOT buyable items and MUST be gotten as item drops/chests only and too bad the enemies that can drop them almost NEVER DO.

I seem to remember getting my party members to survive Big Bangs in the high 70s, but that's probably a function of their given augments because Edge would still die half the time due to damage variance. IIRC stat growths at level 70 and up were... nothing, unless you had augments equipped.

I entered the DS remake final dungeon AT LV 55 and didn't survive even 1 turn against ANY of the NORMAL enemies their but Big Bang still 1 shots a lv 99 party by stll hitting them for 6000+ damage LV 99 party members still BARELY have 5500 HP. Its just that attack items nearly ALL of them DO CRAP for damage well BEFORE Edge joins the party.

@@EvilBookMan Don't give him attention. He just spams every FF upload ever with what he thinks is good advice when it's not. Several FF channels have threatened to block him for his persistent nonsense, some have even actually gone through with it.

Except ALL attacks items in FF4 even on the DS remake at lv 99 are pure CRAP even the COMET using Rod final dungeon barely hits all enemies for like 200 damage.

Even at lv 99 attack items are still pure CRAP in EVERY version of FF4 by the time Edge joins the party.
