I know I will get some blowback for this but Whitney Houston's version of "I will always love you" is an example of too much for the song being sung. Just because you can belt it out doesn't mean you should all the time. If you can't stop yourself, choose your songs wisely.
@moonie6411

Ok I know this sounds how it does, but singers let out crazy notes and volumes because it’s a thing of skill. I’m definitely not trying to take away from Mama Cass’ performance, it’s probably my favorite version of this song, but it’s actually really impressive when singers can make their voice crazy loud, or do insane whistle notes, but it’s just about time and stamina. This is a goal for a lot of new singers, because it shows experience.

It’s called breath support; people who make breathing/gasping noises are singing from their throat and not from their diaphragm, which is how you control your voice, give it support, and make it shine; your throat is really only a conduit, so it comes out raspy and gaspy.

One of those situations in which, the song becomes synonymous with the singer. Can't DREAM without thinking of Mama Cass, anymore, can we ? Singing a memorial to her is almost a "sacrilegious gesture" isn' t ? I meanot only respect for this beautiful lady. Yes, back when BREATHING was important and SCREAMING in microphones was not ? NO one should ever sing this song without giving credit TO Mama Cass...using her pictures etc. I tried...but I don' t like "hearing " singers EMULATING HER. I think the la de dum dum's were Cass's musical/instrumental additives, i.e., "arrangements" she wanted to hear played by other instruments; I think she loved each and every note of this song, and was adding her personal touches to it continually. Its not possible for me to listen to Cass Elliot sing this song without doing a soft shuffle around the kitchen, then a little dance shoop shoop through the living room. I'm convinced that listening to this amazing artist sing keeps my blood pressure down.

I can only imagine what beautiful songs she would have made had she survived. Same with Karen Carpenter, both women lost their lives far too soon and the entire world was robbed of what songs they could have sang. I am thankful for what they did leave us with: superb, timeless gems. Oh, how could I leave out Selena???? My heart physically aches when I think of Selena. Rest in Peace you three wonderful women, the world will cherish what you gave us forever!
