This is a timeless composition. Much like Moon River. When you perfected something......there is no time limit to it.!!!

Cass was special. She knew everybody. She loved bringing good people together. I suspect she wasn't really a happy person but somehow she was always in the centre of things. And I fell in love with her voice the first time I heard it.

I agree with you. She was wonderful . This is one of my funeral songs - though I intend to live for many more years. We have no say in that though .

There's something about Cass Elliot's voice that is so hauntingly beautiful. Love her version of this song.

I found this after listening to the Loving Spoonful all afternoon. Wow....I'm blown away! Cass nailed it as good as anyone....maybe even John. Glad to have been a teenager in the 60s but still discovering truly phenomenal music from the period.

Very cool, I replayed this song about 54 times throughout the year when I was dealing with a bump in life. Always made me feel better and it was sad but happy, in a good way. I also "didn't want to have to do it" but I did! I got through it and it was the end...

Thanks for posting this song. Mezmerizing song ! I wish they would play it a few times on the radio....I think it could be a hit some 45 years later ! The 60's had so much talent, the likes of which we haven't seen again !

The Mugwumps found little success during their short time together in 1964, and are best known for launching the careers of Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty (who went on to co-found the Mamas & the Papas) and John Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky (who co-founded the Lovin' Spoonful)

Anybody know exactly where this was recorded? Obviously it's California, but John Sebastian asked Cass to cut it before she left to go to LA. Were they in the Bay Area, or somewhere in between? I'm just a dork and would like to know.
