I’ve been listening to my cassette tapes all night and into this morning. I’ve played 11 so far, and have been cataloging them on Discogs. I have an auto-reverse 5 cassette changer, so listening to cassettes is super convenient.

No bar codes seems like an unfair rule. That would rule out tapes from the first decade or so of production.
@danieldaniels75714 жыл бұрын
Billy R it would also rule out a lot of legit imports and promotional releases.
@danieldaniels75714 жыл бұрын
It just occurred to me that it would also rule out many legitimate record club cassette releases.

@tylerangeletti93967 жыл бұрын
Counted up my tapes today and I have 990. I don’t like the rules of all tapes must have a barcode because some tapes came in big outer packaging with the barcode on a cardboard holder for example, not on the case itself. Plus that eliminates demo tapes and independent band releases without a record label. The coolest part of tapes for me is finding old demos or small band releases where maybe 200 exist max. Also duplicates, does that mean for example a New Zealand press and a Canadian Press of the same album won’t count despite different tape labels and even the cover art being different slightly? I went off on a rant but still, this is a great collection. I also have around 500 VHS tapes. Long live the analog tape format.

@RWL20124 жыл бұрын
@@rollingtroll what equipment *do* you suggest for listening to cassettes...?
@rollingtroll4 жыл бұрын
@@RWL2012 depends on your budget. There some really nice affordable machines out there. The Akai GX-32 springs to mind. And of course you can spend more and go for some nice nakamichi. Even those start relatively affordable. Generally Aiwa is a solid choice as well, especially up to 1990. JVC also did some amazing machinery, but not the super budget junk shown in the video, that is about as low as you can go while still buying a separate deck. It looks more serious than it is, this was literally their last effort and it was dirt cheap brand new. It's outperformed by the cheap mechanical jvc's from the late 80's. As for speakers; there is so many good ones, but generally it's smart to buy speakers from a brand that actually does speakers, mostly. Just not Bose ;). Japanese speakers are generally meh, except for many a Yamaha. There's a lot of good stuff coming from the US and UK. Too much to mention really. A cool budget speaker that's largely overlooked is the Wharfedale Diamond III. Want something bigger for a small amount of money? Try Tannoy R2's. They do need a bit of power to sing though.

I have The Wall on cassette :) The UPC requirement for the record is stupid. Many prerecorded cassettes don’t have them as the cassette format predates UPC codes, and also sometimes the UPC was on a sticker on the outside of the shrink wrap, not on the any part of the case that you would keep.
