Actually, the 51% win rate being all you need to climb is only true if every win and loss have an equal effect on your rank, which isn't true at the moment.

Hot take: Counter-swapping on its own is not an issue. The issue is when a high skill, niche hero gets hard countered by a low skill, general hero. A counter should be a matter of "less favorable" to the countered, not "unplayable, swap now or gg". There should still be some skill involved in a counter match up.

@@tommyhansen7600 Sojourn? might want to rethink that lol. A hero can be strong without being low effort. If Soj is low effort then so is Widow, Soldier, Bastion, Echo, pretty much anyone who shoots hitscan or projectile in a relatively tight spread

Hot take: The tank passive should reduce hard CC and not soft CC. Being booped as a tank isn't the end of the world. Sure, some tanks care a little more than others, but if for example a hook on a tank would put them 20% further from hog or if trap rooted you for 20% less, tanks would feel much better.

Honestly the cc reduction annoys me when i off-role, a couple days ago i used window while on bap and a lucio went to dive me, it was ot and i had a couple people low so i decided it would be better to focus them down and then fight lucio. What i didnt think of is that I'm used to tank boop distance. So for where i was, as a tank, i'd be fine if i got booped, i wouldn't even be close to falling off. But as a support i was just close enough to the edge to get booped off.

@@TheTipTop03 hooks already (usually) a death sentence. There's far less ways for an environmental kill then just being jumped by the enemy team while he body blocks.

@@TheTipTop03 it truly depends on the enemy comp.If they’re playing cass/ Ana you usually are dead between hinder/sleep/anti. If you’re in lower elos (I say this because I range from plat to masters on different roles) and they’re playing Moira/ genji you’ll most likely be fine

Hot take: I think a lot of the “Sombra is overpowered” community comes from console players. I think I play with a decently high sens, but still can’t do those instant-turn movements pc players can do. It really just takes a sombra walking behind me and attacking to take me out. I feel like by the time I whip around, she’s already got a significant advantage in the duel and 75% of the time I lose the matchup. The other day I got farmed about 5 times walking from spawn despite playing cass. Maybe they’re just crazy good. Maybe I’m crazy- maybe it just gets to my head too easily, but if I am in the nut house, I’d at least like some advice.

I think she's less op, and just fundamentally bad for the game and general experience of playing. The power to take away all abilities in an ability based game is fundamentally problematic. While silences can be a necessary and important mechanic, it needs massive offsets, whether that's being a hard to hit skillshot, long cooldown, a prequisate to activate, or requiring hard commitment after use, it can be managed. The problem is that Sombra has practically none of these things to offset Hack. She doesn't need to commit after hacking and has a very reliable escape, in top of invisablitly that gives a movespeed buff. The range hack can be pulled off at is safe enough that she can't be retaliated against by some heros, and she can just walk away from those who can. The range problem wouldn't be so bad if there was a problem with cooldown. If her hack gets stopped, she can go at it again practically instantly, this is again, at a good range while being invisible (or "detected" which still keeps her movement speed buff). Additionally, hack requires NO commitment, the ways to disengage or rengage, or just, have anything effectively negative happen if she misses hack is insane. On top of this, hack is a lock-on ability, requiring no mechanical skill. So, at this point, sombras hack goes against everything that balances a silence. Now, let's bring in that it's a damage buff. Her other abilities also do not offset the power of hack. Virus, while a skillshot, is a very easy one to hit, and essentially lets her overwhelm an already disabled hero. Instead of the silence being strong enough on its own, apparently, she needs more to push her already massive advantage that requires no skill or commitment. Also, I almost forgot, she is able to take neutral resources (health packs) impacting heros she isn't even interacting will, and gets free information on someone who is low health, which gives her an advantage on her engage, as if her disengage was weak. This all leads to her being an incredibly unenjoyable hero to go against on a fundamental level. Her ease of use for the utility/role she provides is absurd. In a crazy ammount of games in multiple ranks, I see players swap to her and get results against any comp. She is the go to pick for ruining someone else's fun, with minimal effort, and will continue to be as long as her kit is this fundamentally flawed.

The most pheseable rework I see for her, is that hack needs to be a much longer cooldown, (at least 8s) if interrupted. Her translocator should be put on at least a 3s cooldown after hacking a target. Virus should deal normal damage against sheild health and overhealth, but deal less damage to armor and normal hp. Her invisibility is removed and put on a short cooldown if detected. Additionally, invisablitly will have a 4s cooldown if she damages a hero with her weapon. Hack is disabled while invisible. Yes, this will gut the hero, and that's the point. She'll have damage utility outside of hack, which now requires hard commitment and effective punishment for its ease of use.

Hot take: ow should have an arcade roll queue. The devs punish leavers in quick play and tell them to play arcade if they want an overwatch experience. I don't feel like I'm playing ow in arcade, I feel like I'm playing random game modes. Give me some sort of actual overwatch experience in arcade or let people leave quick play.

How much are you leaving that this is an issue. I think you have to leave at least 3 in your last 20 games before it's an issue. Most people should never even see the leaver penalties

@@Rohndogg1i agree but sometimes life comes up and I’m afraid to quit a game because i don’t get to play much and if by coincidence my games over a few days require me leaving and they stack up i get a temp ban and can’t play during the little time i get to. People still quit anyways qp or ranked it seems pointless

@@Rohndogg1i think what he’s referring to is the overall leaving penalty being a huge problem in QP, not that its terrible but it’s way too punishing for a casual game mode. A lot of people have said this but I’ll state it, I think that it was unnecessary to have it in QP because of its casual nature of which people can leave and join as the game goes, but adding the leaver penalty to QP defeats the purpose of both its term and the game mode itself. It really isn’t a problem as a whole because there aren’t really many variables that make that problem severe but like I said, it’s just unnecessary to even have it in a casual mode.

Hot take: the perfect Pharah buff would simply be to allow Barrage to be cancellable. This has perfect synergy with the instant refuel Pharah gets from Barrage and could allow for a faster Barrage playstyle so she's not a sitting duck.

Hot Take: The real reason why the game is "dying", or at least has players feel dreaded when playing, is because the world doesn't feel interesting anymore. Since the game has launched, they have done a lot for the game: new heroes, new maps/modes, fundamental changes to the gameplay, and so on, and that's good. However, the one thing they seem to neglect is its lore and world building. Remember Dragons, Honor and Glory, OW comics? But now, there isn't much. For example, Sojourn has more of an intro to the campaign than a standalone cinematic. Plus, she and Ramattra were meant to be the catalyst for OW2's new story, and look how that panned out. They only have released two novels. Heck many heroes aren't even associated with in-game OW. Lifeweaver, Illari, Venture, Mauga (kinda)- they all just feel out of place. With the exception of Junker Queen and Kiriko, they are heroes, but have no character. And after the layoffs of the lore team, things are only going to get worse.

I used to love binge watching TGN videos about the overwatch lore. Sure blizzard has always been slow with lore, but new characters feel incomplete, (my personal opinion) a lot of the voice acting doesn't have as much personality, kiri and lifeweaver talk like actual robots, venture doesn't even have a proper origin story and we can't tie illari to anyone apart of the overwatch roster. They could've done so much with Mauga and talon but decided "hehe funny gun man go brrrr" and make another boring one dimensional hero

Hot take: If the game is not fun for tanks, there will be much fewer players willing to play tank. 6v6 gave the tank role more freedom than 5v5 does, freedom = fun. I love tank, but since the launch of OW2 tanking in role queue has been miserable. Open queue is fine. The main argument for 5v5 over 6v6 is queue times, but if only half of the tank players are willing to queue tank in 5v5, the queue times remain the same.

I don't want Blizz to make Torbs damage all around turret but I would like if Torb would have more interactions with is turret since he is the engineer character, right now the turret is just fire and forget and the rest of his kit doesn't really feel like an engineer, even though he is one of my favorite character i would like to see a remake or at least some changes to make him an engineer again.

Hot take: the overwatch community is akin to that of a spoiled kid, asking for a restaurant to have more food on their menu but only ordering the food over and over. The OW community complains about the game's lack of content or new game modes and yet only plays role queue quickplay and rank, forgetting that: - open queue quickplay and rank exist - mystery heroes exist - you can play 2cp in the arcade - aim trainers in the practice range - aim trainers such as vaxta and more in custom games - UNO in custom games - Dead by Daylight in custom games - Deathmatch/Skirmish - Team Deathmatch - Capture the Flag again in the arcade - 1 Dad and what is it 11 kids? - Aim trainers for each heroes in custom games - Rollout practice for some heroes in custom games - Limited Time Event Gamemodes - and more... How is overwatch lacking in content?

Of course there is ELO hell. It's just down to math. If you ever tried to flip a coin a bunch of times, you know that it takes a REALLY long time to get close to the expected 50%. Doing a 100 flips and getting 55-45 is still very well in range. So in a game with 9 other players, where your impact on the game is usually ~10%, It can take well over a 100 games before the RNG starts to "equalize" and your individual performance starts to matter. So while, yes your "luck" will equalize and you will climb "eventually", that's around 200-500 matches played. Anything better is down to your luck with matchmaking (assuming solo queueing). And playing 500 matches to advance where you should be, I think it can be called "ELO hell". The inverse is also true. Advancing a rank in 10-20 matches is also mostly luck, and less of your individual performance. So, what can you do? Some roles are more impactful than others (usually Tank > DPS > Healer). Playing them gives you more impact on the game, making it harder for the RNG in match making to affect the outcome. Queue with friends. That way you have a lower chance of getting a fatally bad team. For maximum effect, make sure one of you is queueing as tank. It's called signal to noise ratio. You want to both maximize the signal (playing more impactful roles and characters), while also minimizing the noise (reducing the chance that you get a bad team and loose to someone below your skill). That's all you can do.

Hot Take: Onetricks are not a problem and should not be viewed as one. There are 5 players on a team, and no hero has inherently zero value when going into any combination of heroes. Sure, it's frustrating when your doomfist refuses to swap against roadhog, cassidy, sombra, etc, but that doomfist is still outputting value as long as he's playing well. There is not a singular situation, if everyone on the team knows how to play around eachother and can play their heroes well, where you're fighting a 4v5. Even if you've got 5 onetricks on the same team, strategy and mental is far more important than yelling at your teammates to swap to a different hero.

​@@iProphetGGI've said this since I started playing in 2016 and my view hasn't changed at all: I'd rather have a competent one trick that can pull things off with their character that a flex player might not know or be able to do consistently rather than telling that one trick to swap only to make them rack up 7 more deaths on a character they have no idea how to play. You can't and, frankly, don't have a right to dictate what other people should play. Focus on what you're doing to improve your gameplay.

Hot Take: Your TV/equipment actually makes a HUGE difference on your "skill". I was stuck in silver/gold across classes until I went from a 46" to a 65" TV and jumped to gold/plat. Got a PS5 and 120hz (144hz) play setting on my TV and went to play/diam. This is all in a 6 month time period. I've only played the game for a year though, maybe it was just time 😂 but the noticable changes were instant with the hardware upgrades!

Hot Take: Overwatch is trying to balance two types of play that are causing the frustration we feel today. There is a combination of aim-based characters that are wholly dependent on skill level and can be a server admin, mixed with gimmicky characters that require setups and strategies to get full value, nearly always being comp dependent. These two worlds DO NOT MIX. In a game like OW, we either need to say, no you don't need to swap and make every character aim dependent with abilities more as a side show, or say, yes you do need to swap, and make every character rely on their abilities to get value. (Clarifying, i am not saying remove aim entirely, but tone down the characters that are just position aim, rinse repeat)

Freezing cold take: Of all the gripes that the community currently has with OW2's hero balance, the team taking away Hanzo's 1 shot with the season 9 health buffs was one of the BEST decisions devs have made. Of all the suggested nerfs to Hanzo, I didn't expect it to come in the form of global health pool increases. However, now that it's here, I think his expression of skill is much fairer.

hot take: cc should be affected by the recipient's healthpool. For example, sombra's hack takes 0.65s to cast, and with the proposed changes would go to ~0.55-0.6s for low health heroes like tracer, but take ~0.85-0.9s for max hp tanks. this change could also affect things like boop distance (remove that part of the tank passive for a global change) and other types of soft cc

Hot Take: I think your top 2 heroes for the role you’re assigned to should appear for your friendlies before the match starts. This should stop others from thinking going a certain pick is throwing when you proved yourself to that rank with said heroes.

Hot Take: the removal of one shots from Hanzo and Junkrat makes tanks even harder to play. Before, they got a lot of value from spamming, but could also go on flanks to get picks. Now that they have no pick potential, there is no reason not to just spam at the tank 24/7.

Hot take: moiras healing and damage interaction should flip. Instead of needing to deal damage in order to have enough resources to heal, i think she should need to heal to buff her damage. DPS moiras are common in lower rank, so giving them a very strong incentive to actually protect the team and not just flank the whole game would be great. I am fine with moira being easy and fun to damage with and i dont think shes a major issue at all, but i think all supports should be incentivised to heal as much as possible, not damage as much as possible (there is a paladina character, a healer angel with a swordgun, who has a fire rate buff that increases the more healing she does. She was easily my favourite character when i played that game and having a similar system in overwatch would be great

Hot Take: Hanzo isn't fun at all, Buff his Storm arrow or cooldowns all you want he has lost his identity, He's been a Sniper for the entirety of Overwatch to Season 9 of Overwatch 2. This Tank-Buster Hanzo is unhealthy for lower ranks, And if you aren't going to give us back Sniper Hanzo, Rework him or remove a lot of the nerfs he's received over the lifespan of Overwatch 2. For example his Bow's Charge saving on wallclimbs which was removed, This would at least let him jump on opponents and get a fast kill.

Woo Boy! Here we go, I've got plenty of "Hot Takes"! Hopefully 1 if not All of them will be addressed. Replies welcome, but plz remember these are very opinionated so no hate! [Edits may apply] 1.) Pharah is OP - Pharah not only has great spam due to her faster reload speed, but her re-work has made her practically impossible to kill unlike old Pharah. The main issue with all of this though, is the NOISE PROBLEM Overwatch2 seems to have. This has made her impossible to hear. I know I'm not the only one who has had this issue w/ sound as I've seen multiple posts about it on the Forums. I swear before her re-work I could still hear her fly around everywhere, but now even if she's on top of you- unless she uses her boosters, she's practically noiseless. All of this on top of the fact that they lessened how much her rockets do to herself, make it very hard to kill her or punish her. Either nerf her reload speed, or make it so she hurts herself a lot more when she's close - OR BOTH, as I feel she shouldn't be rewarded for being able to kill me in a tiny room while taking little to no dmg herself. 2.) Zarya is NOT a Low Tier hero- IMO, Zarya should 100% be ranked higher than what content creators are giving her. Her bubble cooldown's are much faster than people think. Zarya's bubbles used to be put on cooldown AFTER the bubble was used, but now the cooldown starts once the bubble goes up instead of after. This has made it VERY hard to properly count her bubble timer, not to mention the Beam Length buff that Beam hero's got, making it so you ain't runnin from her anytime soon. Giving her charge is very easy, and I would say taking high ground is great against her, but not every map has high ground & even then her beam can reach majority of said high grounds. Zarya takes little to no skill, as she's just a point & hold down mouse hero. You don't have to aim w/ her, and unless you're playing with teammates who actually work together and have good coordination (which is rare for the majority of ranks below Masters/GM) she is practically unkillable. The only time she IS killable is if she's the only one left or if she's bad, but that goes for every hero. 3.) Mauga & Hog should be kept nerfed - I HATE a Hog / Mauga meta as they're, imo, hella unfun to play with, unfun to play against, and only somewhat fun to play as. I HATE when I see the enemy tank instantly go Mauga only for our team to lose due to it (or vice versa our tank goes Mauga and it's just a sit there & let them do everything game). Him being able to not only set ppl on fire for free, but also gain CRIT SHOTS for it is awful. It's not fun. As much as I like for every hero to be viable in a sense, I think there are certain hero's such as these 2 that should be kept as niche or mid. People talked about the issue w/ Mauga being that if you nerf him he becomes useless but if you buff him he is free wins- but I think a lot of people would be fine w/ him being a simply niche pick instead of an insta-win button a lot of the time. Hog's are either useless, or change the tide of the fight with only 1 hook. First off, get rid of his one shot- that was the WHOLE reason for his re-work, and they brought it back. All of this made worse by the fact that their main Tank Counter, Orisa, is nerfed so much to the point that the roles have now been reversed. 4.) Orisa's nerf was TOO MUCH - I'm not saying that Orisa didn't need SOME sort of nerf, but they nerfed her so much that she's basically death fodder. Yes, sometimes she's still a viable pick, but it's RARE for me to see her anymore. The tanks she WAS good against can now melt her, and she isn't really good against anyone anymore. I'm not saying she isn't playable, but they've 100% made her super situational, in a meta where they forget to also nerf the ppl she checked. I'd say just fix up some cooldown issues, or speed issues, but what they did was way too much. 5.) There's almost 0 skill expression in this game anymore - Half the skill expression in this game is aiming, which is a core part of FPS in general, and other parts would be movement, if it weren't for the fact that they made movement bad & so abundant that there's practically no differences in it. They've made lots of hero's no longer need "skill", and certain skill that used to be there is so, not special anymore that it doesn't feel like skill. There used to be some form of something there, but now it just feels like who can out aim each other, or who chose to pick the "haha, I have beams or I simply am really hard to hit/ do too much dmg per bullet". Tis simply not cool. 6.) UnRanked QP is so UnFun - At this point, I have less anxiety going into Comp than I do unranked. At least going into Comp I KNOW what I'm possibly getting myself into, and I actually GAIN something from that. I played UnRanked QP recently w/ my pals & we ended up just playing DDR in the spawn room due to the enemy going hero's that were super cringe and just unfun to go against. We all wanted to chill and have fun playing "haha funny hero, i dont rlly play this one so lets try it!" & ended up wanting to die. We couldn't even chill or TRY any new hero's w/ out being mobbed. Although Comp isn't "chill" I at least get some form of satisfaction from it, that I haven't gotten from QP anytime ever.

Suggestion: I know KarQ has said that Moira is fine and shouldn't be more complicated, but I think she could use a little utility: My idea is having her orbs be chargeable using the healing resource meter, like, you use the ability and when the orbs are on her hand you keep the mouse button pressed and the orb you choose changes, like the damage orb becomes a skill shot like Sombra's virus that reduces damage dealt by an enemy or the healing orb similarly becomes a cleanse or something like that. The actual gameplay style that everyone is familiar with is is still there and the resource management becomes more important.

Hot take: The players shoud have more empathy when someone is playing bad, especially in low ranks. I do recognize if some times i just don't hit my shots, but I'm just a Gold player. It's Obvious someone in my rank WILL make a huge mistake, otherwise the player would be in a much higher rank. But the players at metal ranks feel they're the only person playing 100% right and forget the rank itself its not "Great at the game"

Hot take: 6v6 should come back in some capacity. Not for gameplay reasons, but to save the game from dying. No one seems to legitimately have a good time in the game for longer play sessions anymore. I never played ow1 and I feel many many players would come back if an official 6v6 was added, even if it was in arcade or something. I’ve stopped playing cuz the tanks changes just didn’t help tanks feel fun. Also a true casual game mode without leaver penalties would help me personally come back. Quick play is just comp without the pageantry

The clear solution is to reduce the clunkiness between damage and healing on his kit. His heals and damage should work the same way as Illari's, just opposite. This will automatically make him better, and in fact may require a nerf to healing and/or damage if incorporated.

HOT TAKE:Venture needs more risk associated with her kit,although vulnerable to ranged attack and predictable movement ,with the size of her projectile and invulnerability combined with over health makes her very durable and oppressive.This needs more counters as suggestions of sigma ,zayra and sombra ults could draw venture from the ground as in places like mauga cage she has the capability to escape will other characters like reaper can’t exit.Small gameplay interactions would increase the risk and overall skill expression as she can very low risk and can go most of the time unpunished with armour,a movement ability and high burst damage possible shifts of power from her kit could be used.

Hot Take: Late Night Overwatch is the best overwatch. Playing Overwatch late at night has a reputation of being bad, or at the very least strange. As a fairly new player, I am noticing a stark difference between the games I play during peak hours and late at night. Peak hours are when I see people constantly get flamed, but late at night I see some of the best sportsmanship I have seen in a long time. Usually the entire lobby gg’s each other, winning teams encourage losing teams, and players are silly in-game more often. I don’t know if it’s because it’s mostly adults with soul-crushing jobs or what, but something is different. It may be my limited time in the game (three seasons), but IMO if you want to see the good side of the community more, play late at night.

Hot take; The flexibility of sojourn in general raised the power sealing. The right click does SO much damage at the cost of "no" ability slot other than the other basic weapon slot. Yes she's not top 3 dps up close but with a tracer there's really no reason to play any other combination of dps. Reaper could need a right click 45 dmg slug with zero drop off that is same ammo like regular fire. Maybe wreaking ball could deploy 2 oval shields for his team on cool down with 275 health each

I wish they would make widows character identity based on having to hit shots to get value. I want to play a normal sniper that’ll take 2 body shots to kill someone, but body shots don’t feel too good to hit as the dmg is low

Hot take: The Wrecking Ball "Rework" didn't solve any of his issues. It only buffed him in irrelevant ways to him stronger as a whole. His issue is CC and stuns, and how he doesnt have much counterplay to CC. Since one good stun can stop his ability to negate damage, hack or magnetic grenade stops him instantly and puts his ability on cool down. The buffs he got made him objectively better and had some great quality of life additions, it didn't fix anything. (Also for the record, he can play around some CC, but some is unavoidable. 2 or more forms of CC makes ball almost unplayable)

Non ball mains would say hes Op or too weak, etc. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they nerfed his damage or health if he got some sort of counterplay to stuns/ cc. Hot Take: Even though Zen's readjustment took place a while ago, people haven't adapted to his new playstyle. This sucks because if you have a Zen on your team they might discord a dive tank from afar, and then when they actually do dive the backline, they have 0 defense due to the downtime reset on Discord.

I've had plenty of people questioning my rank, asking how I ride silv/gold, and instead should be high plat/low diamond (people from diamond to gm). Being stuck happens, when it's possible to win 7-8 games and then lose 3 and drop below that starting rank, it hurts the confidence and is just frustrating

In response to the Elo hot take, timing is a huge factor. If you are playing early on in the ranked season you will match against other players who are still yet to rank up into their appropriate ranks. Same goes for playing too late in the season, you will be playing alongside players who are either stuck or just ranked up into your current rank The best time to rank up is right in the middle, between the first 1/4 of the season and the last quarter of the season

Hot Take: Overwatch 2 should have climbable ladders (on the actual maps!). For example maps like rialto right after the first point, there's highground you can't reasonable reach with half the roster of heros. It would help characters like reinhard, cassidy etc contest highground just a little bit. You could even make it so you don't have your gun out while climbing, to add a risk/reward to it? nice video again!

Counterswapping is unhinged right now in Gold. I've seen 80%+ ult charges thrown away multiple times as folks swap 4-5 heroes in a single game. A tank will switch from dive to poke and then dps from poke to brawl and then supports from brawl to dive and it's impossible to play around (I typically queue for all 3 roles).

Hot take: As a tracer player, pulse bomb is the worst ultimate in the game. Most people, me included, have a hard time hitting pulse bomb. even when you do stick it, it just does nothing to a lot of heroes who either have a lot of health or can just get rid of it with an ability. It is the most difficult ultimate to use by far and it gets the least value. The only good part of pulse bomb is that it is quick to get but it does not make up for the lack of value.

Pulse Bomb is simultaneously one of the worst ults and most bullshit ults depending on who is being stuck with it. If you're playing a character that neither has the mobility to avoid tracer, the health to tank it, or an invuln ability to mitigate it, there's 0 real interaction you can have with it against a good Tracer except "Guess I'll run the opposite way of my team.". If you have *any* of those, it's essentially a minor inconvenience.

Hot take: The game should recognize soft roles like Primary and Secondary support. While I agree that it's Support not Healer, it's a fact is that the combat of this game is designed around healing, especially now that we have super Tanks who needs a lot of heal to do their job. There should be something in-game that can advice players which supports are Primary (who got enough hps to keep a tank up), and which are Secondary (usually picked for their utilities).

Hot take: having your favorite character be meta isnt always a good thing. ive mained roadhog sicne the ow1 beta and dont want to be known as the "one shot" or "unkillable" tank. now if i play quickplay as my favorite character my team expects me to carry 100% of the time and dominate every tank fight. i want to land hooks and make my dps look good, not be the main character every game.

HOT TAKE: Hanzo needs a rework not buffs. The devs say people complain about fighting hanzo rather than playing him so they nerfed his one shot. Alternate solution? Change the projectile damage system. Make it so it does slightly more damage to shields or armour (whichever one) so that way you can still one shot some characters, but not be able to one shot others. So he's back to being satisfying to play and people have a counter to him by not playing certain one shottable characters. Another Hot take: Sombra counters movement heroes TOO hard. Anything that requires button presses to activate a movement ability should be locked when sombra hacks you, so if you hold the button while she hacks you, it should stay active if youre pharah. And thats still fine because you waste fuel and you fall. Ball should be forced to be stuck in his ball instead of being forced out of it if hes still in ball mode, and vice versa if hes out of ball mode. It makes sombra a tiny bit more skilled as youd need to pay attention to the state of the airborne/movement heroes and hack just at the right time

Hot take: The problem most people have with Widowmaker is not the fact she can one shot you from range, but rather the other hitscan characters can’t shoot back with considerable threat to the Widow. I’m not saying to go back to launch OW1 where you can counter-snipe with Cass, but the other hitscan characters need to be able to shoot back at the Widow and not do barely any damage from range due to damage falloff.

Hot take: elo should be determined based on your OWN performance game to game NOT a Win/Loss system. If you play better than your average in a game you lost you should still gain elo, and vice versa if you got carried in a game and played poorly compared to normal but your team still won you should lose elo. This system literally solves smurfing and throwers all in one.

I'm firmly in this camp, hero design (art and gameplay), and balancing is a huge passion of mine. Sometimes devs lose track of the cardinal rule of "fun to play, and fun to play against" usually the "fun to play against" part. There's also so many moving parts to certain types of abilities and interactions, for example, silences (which I ranted a whole bunch about on another comment) that need to either be hard to pull off, require commitment/be punishable, have a prerequisite or have a long cooldown, while having the effect last long enough to be worth going for, but not so long that it becomes unfun to be effected by. Which, when it comes to silences, can't be a very long time because of the nature of that kind of effect. Its hard to keep track of all that, especially when you're trying to make something fun and unique. Also, there's a creator called Vars who has a channel all about heroes and abilities in league, really top teir stuff, and to my knowledge, isn't a game designer Anyways, that's my shpeel

It is not about intelligence vs stupidity, but competency vs knowledge. For those reading who didn't know.) You don't need competence in particular game-making-related skills to know how to balance a hero correctly. You need competence in predicting outcomes of those changes (which is is probably included in those game-making skills, but not exclusive to them). Granted, the skill to predict correctly is not necessarily guaranteed from just being experienced, but neither is it unattainable.

Hot take: Mauga needs recoil. Right now it’s really easy to ignite people and deal a ton of damage if you have at least mediocre tracking. instead of changing a bunch of numbers they could give recoil to his mini guns to add a layer of skill. Heros like solider and bap would be crazy busted if they had no recoil, I don’t understand why Mauga has none.

Hot take: If Roadhog gets nerfed too considerably the tank role will become even more unplayable than it already seems to be. Roadhog is the tank that is picked when your team is not synergising properly. Without Roadhog being in a pickable state you will have no more agency as a solo queue player and more matches become uncarryable.

My thing is overwatch isn’t a game where you can carry in the first place. Or at least it isn’t supposed to be. At the least of the extremes take Siege for example, it is much easier to potentially Ace every round then it is for a tank/dps hero to get a 5k single-handedly every fight.

Torb turret was done dirty by the nerfs, hp buffs to heroes and the fact that hacking it puts it on cooldown now. I think it could use some love to make it more interactive for the other players in the match. Like maybe now the turret can be booped or debuffed but it can also be healed and receive buffs? Make the turret a real hero like Bob so Ana can throw by accidentally nanoing it! Imagine the voicelines Torb and others could have about that happening or other things like booping the turret off the map or assisting it to get kills. Imagine you respawn and your character is mad about getting smoked by a nano turret!

Hot take: Elo hell is kinda a real thing, but not exactly how everyone says it. People gets stuck in metal ranks because of the sheer amount of bots and trolls that feeds or afks, and also the people that have weak mentalities and leaves after losing 2 team fights. Its not something that happens everygame, but as someone who has experienced this first hand it is still enough to hinder your progress. Once you move up the ranks people's mentality becomes stronger and there are less bots and trolls and makes it easier.

hot take: most rework suggestions seem to come from a place of "making the hero less annoying to play with/against" whereas the devs seem to always prioritize "making the hero fun to play as" and i think the difference in priorities is what has lead to so much disconnect between the game and its community. i don't think the devs are perfect by any means, but i'll take them any day over someone rage-crafting a "rework suggestion" to nerf a hero into the ground or completely change their identity.

The most pheseable rework I see for her, is that hack needs to be a much longer cooldown, (at least 8s) if interrupted. Her translocator should be put on at least a 3s cooldown after hacking a target. Virus should deal normal damage against sheild health and overhealth, but deal less damage to armor and normal hp. Her invisibility is removed and put on a short cooldown if detected. Additionally, invisablitly will have a 4s cooldown if she damages a hero with her weapon. Hack is disabled while invisible. Yes, this will gut the hero, and that's the point. She'll have damage utility outside of hack, which now requires hard commitment and effective punishment for its ease of use. I wrote a whole wall of text on why she's a fundementality flawed hero somewhere in this comment section about someone saying the "sombra is op" sayers being mostly console players as well.

Here is an interesting take, OW1 Armor and OW2 armor should be split into 2 different types of health. Overwatch 1 armor can help some heroes, but can break/nerf others same obviously can be said about ow2 Armor. If they separate it like to Armor and Barrier and give it to the hero who best needs either or.

Not Exactly a Hot take but the buffs could be considered extreme: Reinhardt, What if he could Shield during Pin but while the Shield is up He can't Pin but still knock away targets so you'd have to drop his shield in order to get the pin a target, Second, What if Fire Strike had more utility or benefits besides damage such as inflicting a debuff of Reduced Healing or ,imo, Restores Shield HP when it Hits something since if Rein's Shield goes down it doesnt really recharge fast enough to available for a fight an in my experience, players just eat through it anyway. The Shielding during pin can make it a little safer to pin but it loses some of it's offensive value if his shield is up, Either Way I feel Reinhardt needs some kinda perk or buff or the like to make him a bit more viable, I like the Idea of Reinhardt being a sorta Blitzkrieg Tank that is tough to kill and smashes anything that doesnt leave his immediate vicinity, nowadays i feel like Reinhardt isnt that scary in melee

Idea: you should be able to mount torb's turret as torb where it acts as a lvl3 turret but with the caveat you have to aim it manually. When not mounted it would just be its normal pathetic self

Tbh I think elo hell and heaven exist. I started from the bottom years ago and made it to master 1 at the start of overwatch 2 and had maintained diamond for most of overwatch 1. I stayed at masters for many seasons and stopped playing for a season around season 9ish. I came back and was stuck in elo hell. I do t believe in lying about my skill or anything. I am quite consistent and genuinely have one of the best stat lines ( I know stats aren’t everything but I also play quite well, like I get many picks, cover teammates take space ) but ya generally I am one of the top players. (I also have solo q mainly) But I started restarted playing after a ranked reset season. And I’m not one to blame my teammates I understand skill levels and different ranks. But it’s so hard to rank up. I win a few games but I feels so hard because one person in my team is vastly out matched, like it’s hard to take space with a tank that doesn’t understand spacing or direct counter (like playing rein vs high ground and 4 counters for example) I’m just kind of stuck. Lots of leavers or quiters too at ranks between plat to diamond. Im stuck and don’t know what else to do. Every game will always end in toxicity which is never directed at me but I feel like an MMA fighter who’s stuck at the school yard scrap. ( I’ve been stuck for about two seasons )

Hot take: remove knockback reduction of tanks except for roadhog. As he is the only tank that should be near an edge at any point of a game.

Hot take: removing oneshots from the game makes most supports unpunishable, with the exception of zen. Additionally, i argue there shouldnt be low skill floor character designs in a game attempting to be competitive. I think its a good idea to give simple chatacters advanced tech to master. Perhaps mercy should always fly, and get better speed while ulting. Lower bastions turret damage but give him headshots back. I want to feel rewarded for figuring a character out.

To iterate on this; it would incentivise him to look for -kills- rather than permapump the tank to maximize self healing and dps.

Hot take reply: Torb turret being stronger does make sense. Just make it so default placement is level 2 and you must repair to make it level 3

Hot take, Ramattra is the most versatile tank in the game, of course he shines in a brawl playstyle due to his punch move and ultimate, but if you can aim his primary fire at long distances you can poke very well and do tons of headshot damage, he doesn't have any dive abilities but he can assist diving DPS by throwing out his vortex to prevent the enemy from escaping. Oh, and he has a shield

Hot take: I fully understand it might kill the game if we did it now, but if we had continued to allow full team stacking at the highest level from the start of overwatch and didn't even try to force stacks to play against each other, just throwing solo-queuers to the wolves, the community would be in a healthier state now, 8 years later, with a better learning curve, and a solo-queue community that would have a higher degree of communal understanding about the game today.

IMO excessive counterswapping can actually make you worse at the game and the characters you want to play. if your first instinct is to counterswap and instantly generate an advantage when you're in an unfavorable situation you will never learn how to outplay your own counters and other players in general, and you're not getting experience on the character you originally wanted to play. you might not need to counterswap as much if you play into unfavorable matchups at least sometimes and learn how to make the most of them

2:58 Hot Take, while no character should ever HAVE to be viable in comp, if there IS a character who elicits the emotion of “aw damn, I have this on my team” (Cough, Hammond in support players, or LW as DPS players) then it DOES need to be changed, and if that change doesn’t work again and again, it’s a problem with the hero design! (Cough, Hammond…)

Hot Take: I think there should be a team cooldown on swapping. If one player swaps there would be a 30sec-45sec cooldown before anyone else on the team could. I know I'm not a game Designer. There could be a 5 sec grace to not switch to reset the cooldown. But it would stop the worst of counter swapping. IE half the team swaps to counter your tank.

hot take: overwatch should lean more towards the moba side of the game rather than the fps side. prioritizing gunplay is probably the main reason tank feels so bad and characters end up feeling too similar

Hot take (maybe) They clearly have no plans of going back to 6v6 any time soon so it feels like a pointless argument any time is brought up, the community should focus on what happening now instead of what was. in every comment section and post you get at least one person “b-b-but 6v6 is better bring it back now☝️🤓” A second tank would help the balance of the roll, but I don’t know why people are remembering 6v6 as the promise land where rein and zarya and holding hands skipping through a field of flowers noooo playing tank felt just as bad back then. I feel like we are at the point of no return with maps, balance, new hero’s and reworks that just going to 6v6 would cause more harm than good. I’m not against 6v6 but I’m not confident in the devs to do it right or in a timely manner Hot take if you haven’t played for a maybe like 4 days to a week+ the game should make it mandatory to play 2 games of quick play and win one of those game before they open comp to you I’m so sick of getting people in my comp games who are bad because they are rusty and be in voice chat like “oops I haven’t played in a month sorry if I’m bad”

17:09, ranks aren't given based on skill, you can't argue against that when the only way to rank up or down is to win or lose. If I'm bronze 5 and I get carried by a team of T500 players to GM, that doesnt mean that my skill is what got me to that rank. In your view you're saying that if I got there eventually then it must mean that I belong there. The same is said on the other side if you have a team that is a hinder on your win/loss you'll be at a lower rank than you should be. It's possible to go 30-0 for 10 games straight and still lose all 10.
