So whilst the topic of 'quiet luxury' is still swirling around I thought I'd talk about some luxury brands that actually aren't THAT quiet anymore. The notion of quiet luxury is this 'if you know, you know' club and due to the popularity of these brands and specific items from these brands they're no longer quiet luxury...in my opinion of course...ENJOY!

to be honest. If you produce at cost and remove the logo, the luxury market really isn't that expensive. The mark is about 80% of the actual price. But the fact that you are*preluxz* buying an image and showing off your taste to make them think you are richer than you are is a very good thing to do.

I've never been one for logos. Ive taken to Tailoring my own clothes and found getting clothes that fit my body well gets me complements. They aren't high-end but the fit and fabric make me look put together. If I do buy clothing with logos it's because they are brands that hold up and I've purchased them second hand.

Ca$$, your spot on with this. Personally, I think this 'quiet luxury' saga is a response to logomania and the streetwear influence on all the major fashion house. Just another way to create separation in the world of luxury because it's becoming to accessible by a certain demographic...if you know what I mean.

I have been ignoring this topic on purpose. Mainly because I had nothing good to say about it. However, now I must say after hearing other perspectives, particularly you Cassie, I can see a positive regarding silent luxury. Before your videos, I saw it as only negative. The first time I heard the topic, I felt the same way I feel when something discriminatory is said. I then decided that this topic doesn’t apply to me. Although I’m not old money as I am self made and didn’t come from wealth. I express my creativity through fashion. I wear brands that meet my creative standards. I create my own designs when my needs aren’t met and/or when I’m inspired. I don’t inspire to imitate anyone who is wealthy (old money). I know who I am, my purpose and I’m proud of it. Last but not least, I’m blessed before I ever get dressed and leave my house. After watching your videos, I can see that this topic can be about a style of dress that has less to do with new money and old money. I call it low key style. I strategically dress low key to try to blend into certain environments and draw less attention to myself which can deflect from the main objective. For example, at work during meetings and during volunteer events, I dress low key for various reasons. However, in other environments, I elevate my looks with my lux items. I mix high and low pieces. My choice is based on the actual design and how it fits into my personal style. In these environments, I can fully be myself creatively. I meet people who appreciate my style and I appreciate theirs. I support people embracing their own creativity and don’t want to see anything take away from that. I saw this topic as something to separate and stifle creativity. I also saw the topic as an insult to self made people who aren’t born into wealth. I was so suspicious of the rise of this topic during a time where it appears that the fashion industry has become more inclusive in terms of diversity. I don’t know many people in real life that are as into luxury fashion like I am. I’m grateful for KZbinrs, bloggers and others in the community that share that interest. Thanks for your videos that show a positive side to a topic that have negative undertones.

i grew up around old and new money and honestly, there are “old money” ppl that are flashy, tacky and obnoxious, and “new money” ppl that are frugal, discreet and value money adequately. it’s so funny how ppl perpetuate stereotypes without even knowing what they’re on about. either way, they’re all elitist and it’s ridiculous how we continue to try and impress ppl that will never even look our way with respect. just buy what you like and can afford at least twice (that’s what my dad tells me), and get a good education. focus on yourself and not others, guys. this is all shallow stuff and the real value of life is in the people that love you, having a good heart, and doing what you love too.

Real tea, as my family grew up in a area where this quiet luxury was everywhere, is that most of the wealthy get their clothes tailored, and don’t buy from brands like at all - their are custom for them

But people both rich and not need to understand that community matters in what is considered luxury etc. Its not the same everywhere. In you rich community people got everything taylored in others they wear brands not sold in massive retailers
@asunbeam5479
@asunbeam5479 Жыл бұрын
@@karinalumen9722 I think part of the point though is the desire to assimilate into a culture of wealth. The quiet luxury trend is especially northeastern US WASP-y. People from this culture might be more welcoming or provide more opportunities to people they perceive as being "like them." Although luxury is certainly subjective, this subset of wealthy people tend to have intergenerational wealth. Making connections could help you attend certain schools or even get jobs

This exactly what she's trying to say is bullshit. She is saying very wealthy people DO spend on brands. The more over the top pieces often cost more. Himalayan birkin is 200,000k and everyone knows what that is but no one spending 200k on a Birkin is struggling. So this whole thing like oh rich people don't spend on brands is bullshit. It's like "some very old money very conservative people who either can't afford to upkeep their estates or don't have that much disposable income don't spend on brands" and maybe tech gurus.

Noooo. I hate uniforms. I felt trapped when I had to wear them. I had trouble breathing. Claustrophobic...Lol…I’m enjoying everyone’s individual style. I think the runway has finally delivered pieces that we can pair with items in our closet and wear in everyday life. I would like this topic to go away without impacting the progress that has been made. If it ain’t broke they (who ever they are) shouldn’t try to fix it. Everything logo is one thing but most brands use some type of branding on their pieces. I see a lot of people doing high low for the most part so I just don’t get it. I’m going to sit this one out. I spent too much time stifling my creativity and hiding in uniform.

I don't understand this fascination with quiet luxury, people are simply highlighting brands that we all know about anyway. There seems to be an obsession with people who are so rich, private and disconnected that most of us cannot even imagine how they really live and what they buy. What is the point really, if we all wear neutrals now will Joe Bloggs think that we are silent billionaires riding the bus? *eye roll

To be fair, you never know 😂 I had a neighbour who always looked borderline homeless; bad teeth (not taken care of), awful too big and ugly jumper, messed up hair, generally not taken care of. But the guy had serious money. Not a billionaire or even millionaire but he definitely had cash. He was also an engineer (retired) who had worked all over the world. When he died he inherited everything to an animal charity and his brother was pissed! 😂 He was a gem of a man. At the end of the day, you cannot look inside a person’s bank account. Some people flaunt it but have no money in the bank, others have a lot but one would never know. I don’t think obsessing about what others have or how others see us is very useful in the end.

I don’t remember where I read this but there is a correlation between quiet luxury and the economic climate. The article explained that in a slower economy the “rich” would rather not appear so ostentatious and wore logo-less items. The fashion houses also follow this trend as we see for example Gucci pull back from its crazy loud designs. On the other hand when we economy is doing well and more people can afford luxury, it usually is seen as ok to wear more logos. Thought that was interesting!

So many Chanel bags and clothing are displayed on IG so much, that we can now spot Chanel a mile away. It wasn't like that 10 yrs ago. I think the biggest issue is the idea of luxury seems to be centered solely around designer and high end pieces. Luxury is different to each person. For one it could be leather shoes. I believe luxury is found in things like made for you bag, jewellery etc. It's having something that is yours and not trying to keep up with everyone else

Strangely, no one ever talks about the distinctions in the dress of the really wealthy. It is not subdued color, etc. What I have noticed is a type of modesty in dress. Very few quite rich women ever went the miniskirt route. Most steadfastly wear and have worn mid-length skirts and dresses, whether they were termed ballerina length, tea length, midi, semi-maxi, or such terms. Crew neck, mock neck, high neck, and long sleeves complete the picture. There is something elegant in this. Of course, the quality of the fabric or leather must be top-notch, but the style is what comes across primarily.

I am one with your views on quiet luxury like, couldn't agree more. Cosplaying as generational wealth LOL the facts honey. I think the fact that even inside the "quiet luxury" brands there exists a search for recognizable items says something about this whole quiet luxury brand. And another thing that maybe it's not that relevant but, it doesn't matter if your buying from LV or from Loro Piana, at the end of the day, your money is going to LVMH.

I can appreciate a quiet luxury style because it slides into my own minimalist vibe. I can appreciate a no holds barred, logo heavy, happily shouty style because it’s fun to look at and enjoy on others out there living their best lives. It's a weird trend because it's about being lowkey and discreet with what you wear but it kind of defeats the point if everyone is doing it. My "wealth", such as it is, is most definitely not generational, I have earned every penny myself, and yet I have always preferred true quiet luxury, and I do not define luxury as wearing wildly expensive boring things that only a select few know are wildly expensive. I choose good fabrics, love designer but avoid logos and love neutral colours, but stay true to my own minimalist but quirky style. Yet I always adore coming on a Ca$$$$$$ie ride with you, due to your humour and intelligence and that fact that you rock everything! That's pretty luxurious in my opinion 😂.

You’re right. I think ‚quiet luxury ‚ is just the next step to try to put down people who are trying to climb into luxury! It is just another coined 😜😜 phrase of gate-keeping! Ego away with it. Let’s not confuse taste with ‚olde money‘. Some people just have class and taste without a price tag. Ludicrously wealthy people can have no sense of style. On the other hand some people can dress on a minimal budget and look great. It is that simple.

“If they walking around with a Himalayan Birkin, they’re not struggling with money”… come on Ca$$ 🤣🤣 Exactly, folks love to say you broke or irresponsible with money if “you” buy anything “they” wouldn’t buy themselves. I definitely agree with the “if you know, then everyone knows” 🤭🤣🤣🤣! Great video per usual!!

Thank you Cassie! Say again for everyone in the back! This quiet luxury trend seems so contradictory. Buying pieces to be "stealth wealth" but picking the loudest brands possible. People just need to get what they like.

Hey Cassie! I grew up around people with money... This stuff has existed and been around almost since I remember and I could be your Mom. We knew about it and these items were popular even before the internet was a glimmer in Al Gore's eye. There is nothing "quiet" about quiet luxury. If we knew about this stuff in Mexico in the 80's, it is pretty much entrenched in the cultural zeitgeist I think. Loves ya!

As usual, great video! You are right about style! I love fashion and luxury items but I would NOT wear anything that’s not my style regardless of what… I cannot wear Chanel shoes and yet they look great on my daughter and she loves them. I wanted Hermes bags even before I knew what they were. Loved seeing them as a child being carried by women I loved. I just feel at the end of the day it’s just “ things” and nothing wrong with having some fun with them loud or quiet!

Love your video! I have to laugh at this quiet luxury. Bottega, van cleef, and Cartier was on my wishlist 20 years ago after spending my teenage years/early twenties reading instyle magazine. They stood out to me because of their quality, how different they were, and they were under the radar. Eventually I will get my Cartier!

You’re absolutely right, I believe people are obsessed with quiet luxury, and want everything to be quiet luxury, outside of the elitism, is because the more unknown something is the less likely it is to be a an authentic item. My reason for that is the conversation went from oh money and turned into quiet luxury around the time. The fake Birkin slayer popped up. So I feel like a lot of people don’t want to be associated with wearing some thing that is fake. You’re more likely to see a fake never full, then you are to see a fake Mark Cross Bag

Ps. Quiet luxury is when you buy stuff for their quality despite the hefty price tags, not as status symbol. I love my £300+ walking boots, hand-made in Italy, but no one would be able to tell their value except people with eyes for craftsmanship.

Totally agree, with everything😉. Bought Bottega Veneta bags wayyyyyyy before people knew of the brand. Now those purchases and designs can easily pass as «quiet luxury». Unless the Intrecciato weave give them away. In Italy a lot of other less expensive bags and brands have the same weave, so all in all it is simply a good marketing strategy from BV.
