I don’t think we missed the sweet spot. I really do think consistency and bringing new versions of products to the market can pay off. But, I do agree it’s hard to watch videos on 2020 success stories, it’s just not the same to opening a store in 2023. Each year has different obstacles with a different economy.

Thank you! I wouldn't say that 2020 was a "sweet spot." For most sellers, even sellers starting today, it takes time to ramp up and start hitting their version of success. Another way of looking at it is that it takes most successful Etsy sellers 1-2 years to start seeing success. I am planning on launching a brand new Etsy POD business in the next week and documenting the whole process for the next year. This will be a great test to see if I can ramp a new Etsy POD business to success in today's market :)

I love your videos and absolutely love all of the information you provide! Just curious if you may be able to do an interview with someone who was successful in 2022 when the pandemic had more subsided. Even someone who was able to do $50k-100k profit their first year. In this interview, he hit a great niche when masks had an insane demand and people were at home ready to buy with stimulus checks. Not saying that 100% drove his success, he was smart and love the story. Just hoping for something a little more relatable to today’s economy and those of us who started shops in the last few months. Looking to find those success stories that boomed more recently as the times have changed in regards to the economy. Just a thought and something I look forward to if you know someone! Thanks for all you do!

I think it’s also important to note that he started his business at a time where there were MUCH less sellers on the platform at the height of the pandemic selling a trend item that people needed but are now no longer required. And took those strategies to scale as a then-experienced Etsy seller.

It's always easy to see successful people and think they had it easier than you. When I started in 2020 everyone said it oversaturated, a lot of people didn't succeed and gave up just like now as well. I know TONS of people who started last year that are already successful but it's important to remember that building a successful business takes awhile. Most of us didn't start so crazy like Stephen, that's a lot less common. Most people it takes months to years of putting in a lot of hard work before they start to make a really good consistent income. It's also a different journey for everyone depending on how much work you are doing. If you only have 4 sales since October then I would make sure that you are doing your research and be selling in niches that are popular now/going to be popular in 8-12 weeks. Make sure to get into group shirts like bachelorette shirts and family matching shirts. This can help grow your store immensely! Best of luck

I do have something that I have been struggling with and was wondering if you could possibly create a video on this as I haven't been able to find any that really go in depth with it. My biggest struggle right now is how to size and place the designs on Printify. The auto mockups they have vs where you put the design on doesn't really match and it worries me that my designs won't come out as pictured on my mockups. Do you have any tips or tricks to this or should I just size the mockups to the edges of where it says the design can be? I use Monster Digital for my Bella and Canvas 3001 T-Shirts. This is amazing but my question is how in the heck did he list so many things in only like one day or two? I'm finding the listing process to be the long annoying process between creating designs, loading into Printify then editing my Etsy store listings (ie tags, mockups, etc. and I've copied my tags and all that info also making templates in Printify). Maybe I need to find a video you've done on that part because this is the part that I'm finding to be a HUGE time suck.

@@HelloCustom so ive incorporated two of your tips, the ads strategy and pricing lower with higher shipping. Ive tried the latter before but not with the front end listing price as low. Out of 500ish listings just running ads on the ones that get the most traffic or have sold before, so 55 of my listings at $3 a day. I already do the other stuff you mentioned but just dont have it on a sheet. I use erank to follow successful shops. Ill try the ads for 3 weeks n see how it goes. I did get one sale yesterday that said it came from a click through to my shop. the listing doesnt have ads on it, but im guessing they clicked on something with ads on then saw that instead. I would like to emphasize that luck plays a significant role in achieving success. Selling a strategy becomes challenging when luck, an uncontrollable factor, comes into play. It is worth noting that numerous Etsy sellers have diligently followed all the tips and guidelines but still failed to succeed. Personally, I must admit that after six months of dedicated and arduous work, my lack of success had a profound negative impact on my mental well-being. It is crucial not to set unrealistic expectations based on the achievements of others like Cassiy or some individuals who have excelled. I genuinely believed I could accomplish it as well, and the disappointment that followed was truly devastating. It is important to recognize that there is nothing inherently wrong with you if you do not achieve the desired outcome. You have not made any mistakes. Additionally, it is essential not to be deceived into thinking that you did not put in enough effort. Personally, I am still in the process of recovering from the disappointment I experienced in 2022.

But usually I get more because I'm selling group items. Profit is not my goal now. I want to get to 100 sales asap. I only have maybe 40 designs & I only duplicated my group listings just 2x. So, in total I have 81 listings. The things that I did to get my first sale after 2 days implementing these strategies are (1) Lowering the price (2) Setting 50% off on all of my listings daily (3) Offering free shipping. Before implemeting those, I set my pricing to the price I want & offered 20% off + free shipping. I have experience doing Shopify ecom so I know for a fact that this is a must-do practice. But it took almost 3 weeks to get my 1st sale coz my pricing is a little bit expensive compared to established stores & I was lazy to edit my pricing coz my focus is on optimizing my listings/shop & creating designs. But when I fixed it, in just 2 days I got my first sale. In Shopify we have a countdown timer, so what I did, I run a sale of 50% off EVERY DAY so the timer only have hours left creating urgency. All of us want free, so free shipping is a must. Even if I know that it isn't really free I still gravitate toward an item that has "free" on it. To lower my price I used a strategy call Loss Leader. Choose 1 variation that you will price the cheapest as that will be the price that will be shown on your listing (it's like a clickbait price). Basically, we need to focus on applying Psychological triggers on everything especially on our offers. Hope this helps you to get your first sale. 🙂

I have basically given up on Etsy. I think I am going to close my shop. I don't understand how to be profitable. I had almost 100 sales during christmas and I lost money. I raised all of my prices so now a hoodie is atleast 34$ and I still lost money. I turned off my adds because any offsite add would more than ruin any 2$ profit I had..

Hello, can you advise me please with 1 thing? I started my etsy page posting only t shirts on one niche. Then i tried to upload the same niche but on mugs, and now out of first 10 places on my most searched items, there are only mugs, should i go with mugs only for now or post shirt products also along them?

Personally, I would still sell shirts and mugs. The designs may need to be different though. What sells good on a mug may not directly sell good on a shirt. The niche can be the same, but the designs may need to be different.

I personally liked etsy ads before they changed them to where we dont have control over them. If i set it to $10, all 10 is gone before i even wake up at 5am. The onky way i could get them to work is if i manually turned them off and on daily which is hella annoying.

Does he mean only new listings get listed as on sale(at cost), or does he mean new listings get listed at a reduced priced(at cost, no sale). Would it matter if it was launched at a reduced price or at regular price with sale?
@TayGoatedx

You dictate the sale price when you setup the promotion in Etsy. It's better to launch at regular price with sale because reduced price with sale only lowers your margin. Plus your discount percentage can be higher if you do at regular price.

Sorry if the point didn't quite come across, the whole idea is that you price low and run ads for the first few weeks to get ranked higher on Etsy, and yes lose money or break even at this point. But then once you are ranked higher on Etsy because so many people are buying, then you raise your prices and get more sales than you would have normally at the normal price because now you are ideally on the first page for those keywords! This isn't the end all be all only way to be successful but is a great way to boost your listings if you are confident that you did your research on a current in demand niche, made a great listing, great design etc. If you are new and don't yet understand what sells on the platform or how to find what's trending now etc, then this might not be the best way to get started. But I think a good meet in the middle would be to try pricing your items with just a few dollars in profit margin for the first few weeks to try to get those same early sales and then raise them once the item starts selling well. Then you aren't loosing money but it's the same strategy, Please take this advice and use it in a way you feel comfortable!

Hey I have sold 700k net with minimal ads too, but I think his point here is that you can get ranked faster and make more sales if you use ads! But you don't have to do it as drastic as him. Thanks for watching either way!
