Hey Cass! I wanted to thank you for your videos. I left my job of 17 years in January and decided to make a full scale career change. I've been a Police Officer all my life and am changing to a career in IT with no experience. I had a difficult time in the technical part of my 1st interview. After the interview was over, I researched the issue further and came up with the solution. I emailed the hiring manager my findings and got a call back the following day for a 2nd interview. They said they had never had someone take that type of initiative before and thanked me for doing so. At the end of that interview, I asked the hard question and this afternoon I was offered the job! Thank you again for all of your advice.

Could not agree with you more on the need to practice the response to that interview question! It's not enough to prepare for it and decide ahead of time how you'll answer it. You have to practice so it flows right out of your mouth, naturally. The interviewer will likely sense it if there are any red flags there for them so it's important to rehearse it. 👌

How would you say I’m being fired because of vaccination status
@hp2546 Жыл бұрын
You don't even have to share that vaccination status regardless. If you find it an issue, you just need to get vaccinated before going to your next interview. This is the same example why you cannot say anything negative about your boss. By looking at 2:52 - 6:11, you can pick which category you fit into. Lets use one of the good reason you can say. How about it is your dream job and you cannot pass up that opportunity and give you a chance to grow. If you use this reason, you are being honest and it avoids you making a claim of getting fired and avoids making a claim of sharing problems with your vaccination status. I am sure one of the positive answers is in this video that you can use. After all, you got to be honest and don't be negative. So in your case, don't bring up your vaccine status. You can go out there to get vaccinnated before your next interview in case your interviewer ask are you vaccinatted, then boom, you show you vaccine record card.

@@hp2546 he obviously doesn't want to get vaccinated so "just go and get the vaccine" is dumb advice

This is a video from 2 years ago but I really needed to hear this as I am prepping for an interview happening in about 35 hours from when I am typing this comment. So my case is similar to the point mentioned in 9:30 mins. Long story short: I am moving from consulting (MBB) to industry and to be honest, I am moving for mental and physical health reasons but not very sure of how to answer the "Why are you leaving your current job" question

No problem for me. I was the manager of the US Government Printing Office Bookstore in Los Angeles when the Joint Committee on Printing decided to close all the USGPO bookstores in 2003. After14 years the GPO, five as a manager, out on the street And I was later released from the Social Security Agency over Pay Retention. These things happened and they had nothing to do with me It was the system

Thanks Cassandra this is so helpful. Also how to go about if the employer is interested in specifics of reasons to leave (as a followup response to touching on the past and focusing more on future) given I have quit due to toxic culture. We'd be great help !

do you have any advice how you answer when you have been with the same company for a very long time (aka 10+ years)
@CassThompsonConsulting Жыл бұрын
Every situation is different, but if it's something like a change in management, there's a way to be honest without throwing people under the bus, or you can use a version of wanting a new challenge. Your 10+ years shows loyalty to an organization, which the new place should value!
