@anneominous717221 күн бұрын
Salt hurts wounds mostly because it draws water from the surrounding cells which aggravates the nerve endings. Saltwater actually has a mild analgesic effect. Next time you have a sore throat spend a few minutes gargling saltwater, you'll see for yourself.

@osmanyousif78496 ай бұрын
0:11 Not-so-fun-fact: Hanks actually did cut himself doing this fire-making. At first the cut didn't look so bad, and Hanks thought that he can continue shooting on the island. But then the cut started to get worst and even looking infected that if he didn't receive medical attention soon, he'd died or probably lose his hand. So he was hospitalized for nearly a month, with lead to filming being rescheduled.

The scene where Hanks' character wakes up to the waves crashing into that large piece of outhouse. He goes out and is scared of it at first, but props it up and stares at the Easter Island face on that large panel. That face was telling him to get off the island and how he should do that. Cool scene. Like the volleyball face.

@@edub9930 I mean he certainly ought be cautious but this is overstating the case somewhat. At 35 years of age I have never had a cut become infected (and I've had plenty). If you aren't immunocompromised it's actually pretty rare for a cut to become infected and even rarer for the infection not to clear up on its own and become serious. I'd regardless be being VERY careful in his situation, though. The tooth abscess would worry me the most. I've had a couple tooth infections that wouldn't clear up without antibiotics - a death sentence in his situation.
