In a short span of time, I lost my job, my home, and my wife. I sold everything during three weekends of garage sales, packed up an old suv with a few clothes and essentials, then hit the road. Had no idea where I was headed. I just drove until the stars came out, found a rest area and went to sleep. The morning sun woke me. It was a new day. And I had to keep going. I listened to this soundtrack over and over again until I reached a small town in Washington, over 2,000 miles away. There, I found a home and began to gain footing in a new life. It took me three years, but I eventually came back to my old self. And I'll never forget that this music began that journey with me.

Kelly had to let him go, and he in return gave her the gift of letting her go. Her line: "You're the love of my life!", is a real heart breaker. He loved her enough to let her go on with the life she had to build from scratch after he disappeared.

Does anyone notice how the theme alternates between music and the waves at the island? I've always believed this represented Hank's character's mind at the end. Alternating between his new life and yet never being able to escape the island, in his mind.

If you ever feel down like You don't have much in life, just go watch this movie and even though you can tell that he has sadness in him at the end when he's sitting with his friend you can tell he has a new appreciation for little things that we all take for granted every day "Now I'm back.. I'm sitting here talking to you.. I have ice in my glass" ICE IN YOUR GLASS! something so trivial, yet many aren't fortunate enough to have even that!

To all those who think that when people who cry over the loss as simple as a volleyball is kind of pathetic, what would you do over the course of 5 years being totally alone on a island? Better yet, what would you do in a situation as in the movie, Alive? When I go hiking alone, I tend to find a part of me I lost in all that cluster f*** we call society. All in all, what is it that's missing from your life, do some soul searching, find you, no one else will.

The Castaway film means a lot to me, more than I can say. The music seems to convey a lonliness a solitude that touches my soul deeply, I have made the music my own. Life at the moment, has taken some turns that have made me think deeply. I'm a writer and poet my motive is to get others in touch with their feelings. I know that feelings can sometimes be wrong, but feelings that stem from beauty, wonder, love, evocative serenity and especially meloncholy music usually make us better people.

The reason Cast Away makes us so emotional is because of how much we pity Tom Hanks' character. It's sad when people die in other movies, but it doesn't affect us all that much. The whole time someone watches the movie they feel bad. Hanks is alone on the island. Wilson comes into the picture, and he at least has a companion. We watch him talking to it, and it's heartbreaking to see such a broken man. When he loses his only friend, watching him weep and apologize is pathetic. We feel for him.

Three scenes in this movie this theme was played and really affected me. First, was when he left the safety of the island got past the breakers and realized as he looked back there was no return. Second when Wilson was drifting away from him at sea. Third, and I think the most heart breaking, was arriving at his wifes house and then again upon leaving. Like a wuss I could not prevent tears from streaming down my face. My wife asked me if I was crying and I said no something was in my eyes.

The purpose of Wilson was two fold. It gave him someone to talk to which kept his vocal cords working. The second Wilson helped him keep him from going totally insane on the island. The loss of Wilson is great it is foreshadowing of losing Kelly and the life he once had and the rebuilding of hope for a new one.

And yet to be castaway is no bad thing for then I may come to know who I really am in wisdom. Sorrow will come and past loves will haunt my mind and dreams. To bear all the pain of the world, it's sufferings will it cleanse me? Will it let happiness pervade over me like an angel? How can this muse of music make me more human? And yet it does.
