Thank you for the video. I'm running into a lot of I.D. swollen cast iron pipes trying to get a 3in set-in pvc flange into. Never thought of using a chisel/ screwdriver 😊

Great Video! If you do those often, they make a heavy duty cup shaped wire wheel, with twisted stainless wires, for an angle grinder, that would make quick work of cleaning that rust, instead of using a chisel. Most welding supply shops carry them.

With the smaller i.d. of the repair flange plus the bosses for the allen screws, isn't there an increased possibility of clogs?

@@49ers26 No!!! It was a time consuming job. I had to cut into a concrete floor to get to a level to where I can get a proper level flush cut on the cast Iron pipe. After I did that, I bought the part from Menards to do a dry fit. After that I make up a concrete batch to fill in the section I removed. I let it dry for over 24 hours to make sure it was hardened strong. After it dried, I installed the part. Reinstalled the new toilet and had no issues to date. Oatey PVC Replacement Closet Flange model # 43539. Other box stores carry it too. I like it because it has three adjustable screws inside to extend the rubber seal to completely seal off the pipe from sewer gas or other stuff. It worked great!!! Remember to clean the inside the pipe real good of everything so it doesn’t affect the sealing surface of the part.

From one Master Plumber to another, may I suggest using a high speed drill and a "round wire wheel brush" on the end to clean out the inside of that cast iron. I got tired years ago using a hammer and chisel to clean out the rust. I enjoy your video's, and love watching what my peers do, to see how they tackle industry problems.

I'm reno'ing my bathroom. My flange sits almost an inch above the plywood right now. In gonna tile soon but I don't think the tile height will come close to the flange. The bigger issue is that when I cleaned off the old wax ring and removed the bolts I noticed it doesn't appear that the pipe is separate from the flange. There is no space indicating that occum was stuffed and lead was poured. It looks like a solid piece L shaped pipe. Any advice? Thanks.

Why if you go through all that wouldnt you just Lead in a new Cast Iron Flange? Why reduce the opening? And using a high speed drill bit to drill out the lead is a lot faster and you wont risk breaking the cast iron Riser.
