Excellent videos. I’m about half way in my webbing of my first cast net (after a few failed, but instructive starts). I’ve been unable to find any net dip in my area or find any that can be shipped to me. Can I make my own? Suggestions?

You can use varnish if get pushed to that but dilute it according to the manufacturers suggestions. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I called and duralux will not ship net dip anywhere. They have it ina warehouse in Waco of all places. You have to pick it up!

What is the weight per foot of the lead line using the method you use? I have just started watching your videos on making cast nets and I must say they are awesome and have made me want to make my own. Thank you for your time and effort to explain this in such detail!! Please keep the videos coming, I greatly enjoy learning about these type of projects!

I am unsure what the weight is per foot. My guess is that a 4’ radius net is about 6 pounds total. The mesh size is normally the weight factor. If you make a large mesh the weights will be spaced out much further and the opposite for a fine mesh. Sorry I can’t get real specific because “it depends on many factors”.

Awesome videos, I've really enjoyed the entire series. Do you ever make monofilament nets? If so do you make them the same way or use premade panels?
@equipyourselflifeskills58024 жыл бұрын
I don’t use monofilament because it does not have the durability. Nylon can be dipped to essentially put full life back into an older net. As you may remember in my vids, I have nets that I made as a teen and those nets are just as durable and usable as a net that I made yesterday. I never make nets using the panel method because of the lack of durability. I hope this helps.

Sir, where do you get all the stuff to make the net?
@equipyourselflifeskills58024 жыл бұрын
I buy the netting supplies from Memphis Net and Twine. I cast my lead and buy thimbles from Sailrite. The swivels can be found on line with this search criteria “swivel, 304 stainless steel, 4mm, 5mm or 6mm. The last swivels I ordered from Sears. Hope this helps.

Sir, Do sell the cast net that you make?
@equipyourselflifeskills58024 жыл бұрын
I do not sell the nets I make. I make nets for myself for each type of work I plan to use it for. Example: fresh water can have a little larger mesh because freshwater perch have a taller body and can be caught with a larger mesh where as small saltwater fish that would be used for bait have a more streamline body and require a smaller mesh size. Calm shallow water would use a deferent design then swift moving shallow water. Any net that you make will work in just about any water but make them to be more adaptable to the water body that they are used in increases success. Once you learn how to make your own nets, you have the ability to see what works the best for you. You will always have your favorite nets for what is needed. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
