Just a tip, i took the lee round weight mold and drilled the pin hole larger. Its pretty easy, but you have to take your time setting it up on the drill press. If you have a mill is even better. The way i did it was to cut the handle from the pin, insert it in the mould. Then with the pin on the mould, chuck the pin to the drill press. Next secure the mould to the drill press. After its secured losen the chuck and remove the pin. The chuck should be now aligned with the hole for the pin. Then install your required size drill bit. Make sure you already have a stainless steel pin of this “larger diameter” before you start drilling anything. Then very carefully drill the hole. Depending on what mould you have, you may have to get a longer drill bit. Sounds complicated, but its fairly simple. If you mess it up a bit, no big deal. You may have a bit of lead flashing at the end of the weights. You can easly cut that off.

Thanks, I am sure you noticed I have a custom mold now. I use that .600 double cavity mold for black powder.

As usual very informative video, it's sad that you cant seem to get a cast net sinker mold anywhere online i.e. designed speciafically for ball or long lead. How much did the custom mold cost? approximately?
@equipyourselflifeskills58024 жыл бұрын
$160

Is that for milling only or the designer supplied all materials?

All materials were provided at that price.

Who made your mole and how much did he charge you and if I could get in touch with him what dimensions should I tell him that I want made for cast net moles
@equipyourselflifeskills58028 ай бұрын
The mold was about $160.00 USD, the mold drops 12 sinkers, they are 5/8” diameter with a 5mm rod for the hole. I ordered it off Etsy from Aleksander Velimirovic from Novi Sad, Serbia 🇷🇸. He should already had the CAD set up to make you a quick mold. Let him know I sent you. Great guy to work with.

How do you figure the weight per foot? I see nets in store from 3/4lb per foot to 1-1/2lb per foot
@equipyourselflifeskills58023 жыл бұрын
Well, that information is somewhat arbitrary. Because all the parameters are not listed on the other materials the net is made of. When making your net, you are setting your twine diameter, mesh size and length. Once you reach your target length you set your weights along the lead line. I set them based on mesh size, normally three or four hangings between each weight. Once your net is complete, you will weigh it and divide by the length in feet. If you make a few nets with all the same dimensions they will all have the same weight per foot. I always use a .600 oz round weights and a few deferent weight settings to control the weight of the net. All my sink rates are the same because my method creates a balance between mesh size and twine diameter. Yet I may have two 4’ nets but they do not weigh the same because of mesh size, but still have the same sink rate. If you build two nets with the same twine size and same mesh size, set the weight spacing for one at 4 hangings (3 between each weight) and the other at 5 hangings, your weight per foot will change, where the latter will be a lighter net and have a slower sink rate. If you use 1 oz weights you should increase your spacing to 5-6 hangings between weights. I hope this helps and does not become confusing.

how much does the sinker weigh per pc

The sinkers that I use are 5/8” in diameter and are .6 of an ounce. Thanks for watching!
