The reason they lost is because for 5 games we threw strikes to Marte. For 5 straight games Harper and Schwarb barely saw a pitch in the strike zone. Marte single handedly won them 2 or 3 games and we just kept pitching to him with a guy on second. Sucks that harp missed a three run bomb by a millimeter.

Topper lost that series for them when he put Kerkering and Kimbrel on the mound in Game 4 trying to protect a 5-2 lead after having seen them both blow Game 3. He had Walker and Lorenzen in the bullpen. He didn't have to use Kerkering and Kimbrel. They hold that 5-2 lead and win Game 4, they take the series in Game 5.

Offense let us down From games 3-7. Game 3 is a 1-1 walk off, so I blame the offense for not putting up more runs. Game 4 is the ONLY game I’d say the bullpen truly lost the game. Offense catches a lil spark in game 5, and then they completely go dead in game 6-7. The offensive is unequivocally the reason we are not going back to the World Series. We should have won the series 4-1.

Just off hand, I never really followed the Phillies consistently at all since 1964, no show-Allen, the continual depressing drag of players like Darymple and Greene. However, I have been excited near end seasons when teams come close to a world series. So, over my varied experience of several decades of indifference and some enthusiasm, my two cents as an armchair coach, I would have to fire everybody on the team, including the manager, and offer those who wanted to come back under my leadership an opportunity. I learned micro-management the hard way, even as a pizza delivery man in my suffering. I did advance in another position and delivered a piece of equipment, and rode it on the playing ground of one of the professional stadiums in Phila, but forget which one. I realize that does not give me any athletic fame but it did bring me physically closer to being with the club than even many of the fans. Now, my big solution: I think the wild card idea needs to be done away with. Atlanta should have been in the world series because of its wins. As to pitchers, they should be able to stay in if they feel they can do it, not taken out because of computer analysis. Conclusion: The Phillies seem to have a great, young ball club with great hitting and pitching potential.

Their game plan was swing at 1st pitches, try to hit homers. When that failed, swing at low & away sliders at least a foot out of the zone. Arizona knew it, used their game plan weakness against them.

This team has good vibes when they're rolling but the roster is loaded with mercenaries who came here for big contracts. The 2008 team had a core of Pat Burrell, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Cole Hamels, Jimmy Rollins, J.A. Happ, Kyle Kendrick, Carlos Ruiz....all came up through the Phillies farm system.

Looking back, it's tough to put "blame" on an individual for this. Lot of the top hitters didn't show up after the first few games and our relief pitching was suspect at times. However, it comes down to management for me. We can all talk about the lineup and choice of relievers, but for me it's constantly deciding to pitch to Marte. The guy was on fire and we kept pitching to him with a runner on. Schwarber and Harper barely got hittable balls after Game 2. Topper could've employed the same strategy against Marte to nullify his offensive threat. In any case, huge disappointment given how we started the postseason but this team was a little up and down all year. I think it was the chance to get back to the World Series and how it lined up that will make this hurt for a while. This feels a lot like 2009 and 2010 where he had talent and then just came up a bust at the final hurdles we faced each of those years.
