Replacing the fixed caster/camber bushings in old crusty with adjustable ones to try to get her to go down the road straight. A side note to this video is the second alignment was done with air bags deflated, this is how I normally run the truck. This may have contributed to the caster and toe change on the second alignment sweep. This type of bushing is used on the most of following vehicles: 4wd 80-96 f150, bronco, f250, f350, 4wd 80-02 e250, e350, e450, 97-98 4wd f250hd, 99-02 4wd f250, f350, f450, f550 super duty, 00-03 4wd excursion, 99-02 2wd f450, f550 super duty, 94-99 4wd dodge br2500, br3500, 92-02 2wd br3500 w/ mono beam.

I just spent 69 dollars on a front end alignment for a 4x4, because it was a old truck they didn't really want to be bothered so they told me they did all they could do, well when I went to leave the shop with my truck after paying the bill it still pull to the right as if nothing was done, mind you after he gets to explaining what was done the whole time he was messing with the toe, and not what you were explaining in your video. Thank you for the posting of the video.

I was having a hard time with my Driver's Side Tire wearing off on the inside. For years no one could give me an answer. I finally broke down and changed some of the Rods. Not the Problem but it helps with the Steering. Asked the Mechanic, he gave me some bllsht answer. After 25 years I had to get my Tools out of retirement. If you want something done right...One must do it one's self. Started doing some research.. I first replaced the Coil Springs. That didn't do it. I then replaced the Shocks. Finally!!! Getting some where. It straighten up 90% Then replaced the Bushing on each of the Radius Arms. Now the Wheels are at 100% I Aligned it by eye, saved me $200.00 and the headache of another Mechanic doing a bad job and pissing me off!!!!! Took back the Camber Bushings. Got new Tires and it rides 100%% perfect.

Great video. After installing a ReadyLift 2'' leveling kit on my 2012 F350 (non dually) my tires are kicked in like \ /. I bought the ReadyLift brand because they told me I could keep everything stock. Well, I took it to Pep Boys to get an Alignment - they said it couldn't be done without cambers / casters. After calling ReadyLift, they confirmed I would need adjustable casters. I honestly would have bought a cheaper leveling kit for 1/4th the cost had I known I would need my camber adjusted! Some shops want $80-115 each side in labor alone. I figured after putting the leveling kit, this should be a piece of cake, but the alignment shops and even ReadyLift said it wasn't that easy. Your video is just what I needed to confirm that the hubby and I can do it ourselves. I was regretting have done the leveling kit, hopefully the caster / camber install goes smoothly. Maybe I will post a video when I am done. Thanks!

OTC makes a puller for those bushings..it's a OTC 7588A and it works great! That kind of work is a great candidate for using copper anti-seize...that is if you want to ever go back in and re-work anything.

Yes those old bushings are marked in degrees and minutes ie 1* 30mins...and yes you need a little more caster in the right to compensate for the road crown, you can believe it or not, but if you just stop and think, it makes sense. If car is pulling to the right add caster split. The only cars that I know of that run even caster splits are road course race cars and off road race cars. All lto race cars run alot of split, our dirt late model we ran about 3* split it helps you turn the car.

yo, Oldsmob455, the factory bushings on the Ford truck adjust both caster and camber simultaneously. they can be adjusted for neutral camber and maximum caster front or back, by putting the angle of the bushing in line with the frame front to back. Or they can be adjusted for maximum camber positive or negative, and neutral caster, by adjusting the angled hole inward or outward. or they can be adjusted for anywhere in between i.e. 1/2 max caster either way with and 1/2 camber in or out. as one adjustment goes towards maximum, the other is decreased. think of it looking down at the bushing like a clock from top of truck, with 12 o'clock at the front center of tire. you can adjust it to 3 or 9 o'clock positions for max camber in/out, or 12 and 6 o'clock positions for max caster forward/rearward, or anywhere in between, but as you go further on caster, camber is decreased, and vice versa. it's actually a half assed system as they both should adjust separately.

They are good I'm only saying that if everything is even. Then the car will pull according to the crown of the road. Being said, I usually set those one with .5 more caster on the right side with even camber. .5 to .8 seems to be the magic number by where I live.
@kevingosselin3589

***** every vehicle are kinda different when it come to create a left pull to compensate for the road crown. a front wheel drive would be different than a rear wheel drive. a neutral alignment would be perfect on the perfect straight road (drag racing track for instance). some bmw or even the dodge charger ask for 1.0 degre + of left pull. i'm saying that for your particular truck. a minimum of 0.5 should be there to compensate for road crown. I found that 0.5 to 0.8 was the magic number especially for farming road when the crown is more pronounce. For tire pull. brand new tire can have radial pull as the tire is conic (you can't see that with your own eye). The process without road force equipment to find 1 tire pull would be to switch your right front and your left front side to side.If the pull switch side. bingo you've got 1 tire or maybe 2 tire causing the pull. THEN . you switch 1 front tire with is His rear tire and road test it again. If the pull is gone, the Tire you moved to the back is the one causing the pull. If not then you want to bring those two tire back where they were and do the same thing with the other side. Some people only switch the front pair with the rear expecting it's going to go away. but at that point you can't put the finger on THE bad tire. And you need to remember that you may have 2 tire causing pull. But the process to cure a vehicle who is pulling . is to set the vehicle to spec, make sure you don't have a car who pulls to road crown and then after chase a possible tire pull. on your truck there is also the radius arm bushing you may want to check,a s they get weak it cause he wheel to shift place under braking or under acceleration. In your case if you have the patience to swap tire like I suggest you. You may be able to cure by yourself a pull. I hate doing those at the shop as they take up to an hour even with air tool and hoist. your vehicle can take up to 3 hour in a shop to get the alignment done properly with solid bushing. once done with solid bushing, the only thing who get go wrong are rubber bushing going bad, hitting curb or weak coil spring.

Brought my truck to the alignment shop they said there was no need to install these type of bushings in my truck only if I had wrecked it so they took the adjustable camber bushing out and put the original back in and said they work a lot better at adjusting alignment so I wanted to clear that up these are not the correct bushings unless the vehicle is wrecked from what the alignment man who has 40 years experience told me

I dont know where you live but on those ford I like to see a 0.5 pull minimum to the left to compensate to road crown. At this point you still have no left lead to compensate for the crown and/or radial tire pull.

you were pulling right because ypur wheelse were aligned to a positive thrust angle which will make the car pulll right, and your steering whel wont ever be straight. If it were you were dog tracking to the right meaning your front and rear wheels were pointing right at the same angle but your wheel was straight.

Question. Were the new bushings Ingalls 59400? We have 06 Class C motor home sitting on a Ford E-450 Super Duty. We bought it last year, had so much play in the steering it was hard to drive. Took it in and they put new bushings in, a set size. Drive better but still play so I was thinking of getting the Ingalls and having them do it again

frankenstrat25 Loose tie rod ends, center links, pitman arms, idler arms, control arm bushings, etc. can add to steering wheel play. One can crawl under it and look while someone else moves the steering wheel back and fourth. This can reveal some of the culprits.

A good front end mechanic does'nt need a computer to do an alingment. The ones that do use a computer can set the truck to specs but it may still pull to one side or wear tires uneven because they dont know what there are doing.

I didn't like the air bags, they eventually leaked. You want your plow A frame to sit level so when the plow is turned it won't be sitting all jacked diagonal. As far as the lift I'd talk to a specialist like Rough Country. A drop pitman arm or who knows what might be needed.
