• Castiel deserves better •

Yeah, this is a video about all the times someone treated Cas like he's nothing but a tool, like his feelings are invalid, like he's not allowed to have them in the first place. To me, the huge difference between Castiel and the Winchesters - and most people he interacted with for that matter- is that Cas always owned up to his mistakes. He felt guilty and he keeps apologizing while everyone else feels entitled to walk all over him; to torture him, to make fun of him, to dismiss his feelings and to use him for their own needs. He has no one who really cares about him but he keeps caring about everyone and it's just really sad to see.
Honestly, Castiel was the only reason I even bothered to watch S10. I kept making videos because I really love editing & I had all the episodes at hand but I think this is gonna be my last supernatural video. It's no fun to make videos about a show I don't like or watch anymore, especially when the only likeable character that's still alive, never gets a decent storyline of his own.
I don't know if anyone cares to read this and you certainly don't have to agree with me but thank you so much for the likes and comments over the years, I had lots of fun and I hope you did as well!
[let me just add that I am well aware that there was more to the story & I certainly exaggerated to make the message clearer but the point is that the show treated this character like utter garbage and that's really all I was trying to show]

Castiel is the most complex, most beautiful and the most underappreciated character out of the entire show. He is the character that made the biggest entree, I mean they all still talk about how badass it was. But where is he now? 8 seasons later, he has been completely stripped by everything that made him so big and so powerful. Partly because of his enemies but mostly because of his friends, and that's a shame. Castiel started out as the typical angel: emotionless and obeyed commands without question. Castiel’s character arch is that he adopts more and more human traits and starts questioning his superiors, starts thinking for himself what is right and what is wrong. It is true that Castiel has made many mistakes, but you must understand after eons of taking blind commands, he is just for the first time since creation making choices by himself, he had to figure out all by himself what is right and what is wrong, and with such negative energy around him and no support system of course he is bound to mess up. Sam and Dean mess up all the time, the difference between Castiel and any other character on the show is that Castiel is the only one who OWNS UP to his mistakes and TAKES RESPONSIBILY, but no one is there to give him credit for that, they all just yell at him for doing to wrong thing, instead of helping him to the right path. He just puts all his wrongs on his chest and throughout the seasons his chest just has been growing heavier and heavier. Castiel hit rock-bottom when he was human, he was homeless and lost and did not know where to go, Sam and Dean did nothing to help him. Even if he didn’t want to be helped, when has that ever stopped Sam to help Dean or the other way around? They keep saying he’s family but I don’t really see any evidence of that. I need Castiel to beat dean up again without apology just for the hell of it, because Dean deserves it. “I rebelled for this, for you to join them?”

Great analysis. I hated when Cas was homeless and Dean acted like it was no big deal. The Gas n Sip scene.....etc...Cas needs to start being treated like family. He deserves to be loved.

I get that Dean was in a precarious situation at that time. Either he kicks him out of the bunker or Gadreel will leave Sam's body, which means Sam will die. However, I get what you are saying. Dean kicked him out without even giving him anything to survive (money, food, clothing, anything!). Then Dean had the audacity to tell him that he was sorry but everything turned out all right for Cas anyway. That wasn't an apology. Ugh! I really, really felt sorry for Cas during his whole human period.

There are times where I wish Cas would die and sam and Dean look back on all he's done for them and how they treated him and feel guilty........but then I think I would probably murder the writers if they ever killed cas for good so I forget about it. Seriously though, when castiel first came on the show he was brave, strong, a badass. He stood up for himself and put dean and sam in their place when they took things too far. Now he just let's them and everyone else treat him like shit. In reality, the winchester destroyed Cas, physically and mentally. I know they care about cas but not as family. They really only see him as a friend that you see every once in a while. They never show their appreciation for all the good cas has done, instead they attack him on the mistakes he's made as if they have never made mistakes in their lives. SPOILER When dean almost killed cas in season 10, there was never an apology. They never spoke about it ever again. But when Cas was under a spell by Rowena in season 11 and he beat up dean, he apologized over and over again. I just don't find it fair how an amazing character like Cas was turned into a self loathing sidekick who blames himself for everything that's gone wrong. I wish cas would grow a backbone and start standing up to himself like he did before. He never took any shit from Dean or Sam and used to have them respect him.

about the "there was never an apology" thing, yeah there was never a true apology, but Dean did say, after Cas was under the spell and beat up Dean, Dean had said "I had it coming" and didn't allow Cas to heal him, which is sort of hinting to what Dean had done to Cas earlier, but no yeah I get what you're saying. There definitely should have been more of an apology

Yeah, we can say that they, especially Dean, are not treating each other well. Little understatement, I know. But it is Castiel on who we're focused now and sure he deserves better. I am not going to discuss it because I feel the same way. But look, we cannot denial that everyone is mistreated in the serial. Sam who's never trusted again after that stuff with Azazel is found out. Dean who really would like to live in peace with Lisa, but his dad raised him as a hunter, because of this revenge and suffering of his. What makes me really sick when I think about it. Bobby who is also a call-daddy who they also call only when they need. The scene he yells at Cas because that he cannot help. Jesus, people, he lost ability to walk. I would be pretty depressed on his place. Really. Shouldn't blame him for it. You see, Sam does some mistakes, he doesn't controle himself because of the Azazel's blood and stuff - and nobody trusts him anymore. Castiel goes in "I'm an angel of the Lord" and "gonna blow your mind" style, so Dean treats him all the time like he could do anything. This what Castiel says once: "And I certainly don't serve you" is really, really true. Because Dean treats him like it wasn't true, like Cas was there to help and fix everything. I feel now really sorry that Castiel didn't continue this. Because it's not like he has to do anything they want or he is on the other side, angels' side. There is a grayscale, right? I've just finished the season 5, so I don't know about plenty of things, but the most heartbreaking scene was when Cas landed into a hospital and they didn't even think about visiting him... I remember only I really wanted the Winchester's to go there.

I agree. The whole arch of season 6 could have been avoided if the brothers gave a second of thought. Cas is literally mid battle, and could die any second along with his fellow brothers. But if he didnt respond to a call, the brothers would just assume that he was ignoring them, not considering the possibility that he could be dead. And cas, not understanding how being in a fam works obviously wouldnt tell them about Sam's soul when they don't even seem to care if he was fighting for his life or other peoples lives seconds before. I absolutely hate that through countless times, Castiel has sacrificed everything for the Winchesters, he gets nothing in return. Previously stated by Castiel himself, "I´m hunted. I rebelled and I did it - all of it - for you." He's thrown his entire being into saving these hunters, this angel of the lord, who's lived centuries before them, and will probably sacrifice his life to save them. It honestly makes me angry, at everyone who ever decided it was an excellent idea to use Castiel for something they needed. And when Dean said "No one cares that you're broken, Cas." I found myself hating Dean. Only a bit, because I do care about him as well. I just wish they'd understand. Castiel is not a weapon. Castiel is not an object. Castiel is not a 'teleportation device that I'll use whenever I damn well feel like it'. Castiel is NOT expendable. I'd just appreciate if the Winchesters showed their thanks once in a while, you know? Instead of throwing him into the pile of all the used objects that they've burnt out in the past.

It's Dean who keeps insisting angels don't care about him and to shun them or Dean will drop Cas. Dean's goal is to isolate Cas and have him for himself, for whatever purpose.

Cas is the only true character that never wanted ANYTHING for himself... except to help others. He tries his hardest; always there when anyone needs him. And when they mess up, everybody just forgets about it and moves on but when Cas screws up it's like he's the only one to blame; like he's not allowed to make mistakes. I don’t think anyone who watches the show realizes how Castiel reaches Winchester levels of depressed so quickly, without watching edits. No one helps him when he needs it, and he owns his mistakes unlike almost everyone on the show. He knows when he screwed up and he apologizes for it consistently. This is SO GOOD, but it makes me SO ANGRY! Castiel is taken for granted more than any other character, in my opinion. He's constantly putting the Winchester brothers above himself-- putting everyone, really, above himself. I completely agree and love how this video shows how many of the characters-- including, and ESPECIALLY Sam and Dean-- treat Castiel like he's some sort of tool, some sort of weapon. He drops everything and comes down for them at a word, and they don't give him a thank you. He doesn't arrive immediately, and they yell at him like it's his responsibility to be there whenever they have the slightest need of him, EVEN WHEN HE'S FIGHTING IN HIS OWN CIVIL WAR. I won't even get STARTED with Castiel's arc when he turned human and was homeless, because that would be another good five-thousand words. They rarely have the Winchesters thanking/apologizing/taking care of Castiel and it makes me really upset. Castiel took Sam's horrible Lucifer-possession thing in an INSTANT, and they left him there. Like it was OK now that Sam was better and it was OK now that Castiel traded spots with him. Dean screams, "Nobody cares that you're broken," at Castiel and at the end of the episode, Dean didn't apologize. No-- DEAN "FORGAVE" HIM. God this is getting long. But I completely agree! It just makes me so mad that Dean and Sam-- who are SUPPOSED to be the kindest ones to Castiel, the ONLY kind ones to Castiel-- hurt him just as much. Hello. I just wanted to say that this is the video I have been waiting for my entire life. I agree with EVERYTHING you said in the description, I preach everything of that to as many spn fans as I can reach out to. Castiel deserves better. Castiel deserves to be treated as an important character like Sam and Dean. Really, right now, the only reason he is still on the show is that the fandom would kill the writers if they killed Cas. With every damn episode after S5 you could see that Castiel has lost his purpose, the writers giving him the same god damn bad story line over and over again every season, making him the Winchester's little puppy who they can call whenever they need help. If spn wasn't that important to me, actually marking the start of my new life as a new person, I would have quit watching by now, too, because of reasons like this, because of *simply bad writing*. And Castiel, he means everything to me, and this video made me cry so much, just like all the other things you mentioned in your description. Castiel cared all the time, he was GODDAMN TRYING TO DO HIS BEST, had good intentions, he was the epitome of a good human being, but still he was depicted and treated as the one who made all the mistakes, despite how often Sam and Dean have destroyed the world. Castiel has become more human over the years than Dean is at some points, and this hurts so much. The way Dean treated him over the years, especially S7, even made me hate Dean a little bit. Castiel held them together, Castiel saved Dean (and Sam) more than fricking once, he gave EVERYTHING, *_EVERYTHING_*, but it's still not enough and the writers still do not apprecciate him. I could cry over this for years. I am sorry that you want to stop making videos, because I loved them so much, but I understand you and if that makes you happy, then so be it. I wish they had stopped SPN after S5, because since then it just became worse every season, and Castiel is the impersonation of bad writing and how you can ruin a show. I will keep watching it because I am not ready to let go of the characters yet, or rather Cas alone, I also hope it will get better, but I seriously doubt it. Whatever, just, thank you for making this and telling us your opinion. I think the exact same way, and for me, and you too I guess, the real Castiel is S4 and S5 Castiel, and that's how I will keep him in my heart forever.

SPN was there when a new part of my life, luckily a better part, started, so SPN has become a part of that new me, it has been there since things have changed for the better and I fear that when it's over, an important part of my new better life will be gone. I agree with you 110%. I had been looking for someone that agrees with me, finally. Castiel is my favourite character, and I bloody HATE it whenever someone dares to step on him. Seriously, and I think Dean is the worst of all. Can you believe how they constantly _don't_ trust him, and when he doesn't trust them they fucking hate him for it? How when they make a mistake he forgives them without much thought, he doesn't even mention it, but when HE makes a mistake they don't help him and blame him for everything? I thought that the Winchester and Castiel are really good friends but when I the first time thought about their relationship in the hole show I was asking myself what they ever did for him. And my answers was clearly. They did nothing for him. He tried to save Sam from the cage. He nearly always came when the winchesters called, even if he had no time for them. He gave up everything he had in his life and even every mistake he did was just for Dean and Sam. But the Winchester, they always were selfish. When Cass was a human and didn't know what to do, he went to them in hope that they would help him, but Dean just kicked him out of the bunker. In heaven was war but all the Winchester ever cared about was the hunt and each other. I know that they are actually friends. But if they would have to chose between Castiel or each other they would chose each other. You can't tell me otherwise. They never did something as difficult and selfless as Castiel did for them. He is a friend of them, but not more. I think he deserves better. He don't need friends. He needs a familie, who cares as much about him as he cares about the winchesters.

Of course, I still keep up with the show and am informed of what's happened and what's currently (totally wanna smack Michael and, oh boy, I'm gonna obliterate that Empty bastard) happening. But I just couldn't watch it anymore. Castiel has been my favorite since the whole, "I'm not a Hammer." thing back in season 4 and let me tell you. They way everyone: angels, demons, the Winchesters, etc have treated Castiel is just plain shitty. And yeah, Castiel messed up a whole lot of times. But did anyone stop and think why? For whom? Because here we have a millennia-old being who's done nothing but follow orders his whole existence, been nothing more than soldier since forever and has been treated accordingly: like a weapon. But the thing is, Castiel never been just a weapon. How many times Noami had to reset Cas? Why? Because he was different; broken, they say. Then finally his adorable little shit manages to break free from heaven because he's made a friend, someone to believe, a new cause. Then there's also the fact that for the first time Castiel actually had control over his free will. Yeah, sure, he fell stuff but Heaven no longer had their claws in him. I feel like everyone just forgets how new this whole making decisions thing is for Castiel. It's like giving a dog who has lived in a kennel its whole life, sudden free reign of the backyard. Yes, the dog's gonna wreck shit. OF course, it's guaranteed. Its never known a life outside of bars and to be suddenly FREE? That's some wild shit there. Castiel is just, ugh, I have no words. I just relate to strongly with him: the whole going against you're, being used, failing those who care about, disappointing the important people in your life, and just all the trying-to-do-the-right-thing-but-always-having-it-explode-in-your-face. Then there's just his whole social awkwardness and not getting certain phrases and just general dorkiness that I resonate with. Just I love this character too much. Like a lot that it weirds ME out. And that's why I stopped watching Supernatural because it just became too much. I just got too tired of seeing such a wonderful character just plain mistreated. And yeah, the show has some awesome story arcs and the Winchesters seem to generally care Cas sometimes but it's just not enough. I'm tired. Castiel is tired. We're all tired. Ugh. Sorry. I just totally ranted. Guess I'm still angry you made me cry.

This was incredible. Every single thing you said in your description was absolutely true. Castiel is the only reason I watch SPN anymore. I'm pretty sure he has been the reason since he walked through the doors of that barn or wherever they were in his first scene. I have felt as if Castiel was being used and manipulated for so long. The moment he first agreed to help Dean he, as the character has said before, lost everything. The Winchesters convinced Castiel to turn his back on his home and his family, something they would never do, and how do they repay him for it? With cruel words and the inability to forgive him for his mistakes when they have made bigger ones. I don't agree when Cas said to Sam that the only one who had screwed things up more consistently than Sam was Cas, because Sam and Dean started the damn apocalypse because they were manipulated by Ruby and Zachariah. Castiel released the leviathans while stopping Raphael from starting the apocalypse again, and considering the leviathans disbanded the moment their leader was killed, it was the lesser of the two evils. And yes, Castiel was manipulated by Metatron into being an unwilling participant in causing the angels to Fall, but he was trusting one of his brothers who was a very good liar. Sam trusted a demon and released Lucifer and Dean trusted Zachariah, whom he didn't even like. They are hypocrites for blaming him for all that when they have made worse mistakes in the past. And now look what they just did: release the darkness! I wonder how they're going to get out of this one. You're right that Cas is the only one who truly owns up to his mistakes and feels true guilt and does something about it. Sam and Dean tend to just whine and blame each other or the demons or angels, saying it's their fault. They never take credit for their own mistakes, only the things they do right. Castiel is also the most selfless character on that show, because not only has he sacrificed everything for others, but he felt guilty for agreeing to go with Metatron to get his grace so he wouldn't die. He called himself selfish because he wanted to live. Sam and Dean are always making selfish choices to insure their own survival and they never seem to feel bad about it for longer than an episode or two. They, as Gabriel once put it, "break the world" for each other, not caring about the consequences it will have on others. Honestly, when Ephraim said "I just followed the sound of your pain. You have no idea how loud it is. I could hear you for miles, " my heart broke. The Winchesters often act as if they did Castiel some huge favor, like when Sam and Meg were arguing at the hospital at 3:07, but all they have done is bring him confusion, pain, and rejection. The only reason I want to watch Supernatural season eleven is because Castiel is going to be a regular on the show again and Dean and Sam finally look like they are going to treat him kindly, like they should have from the start. If it wasn't for that, I would have just wanted the writers to create a spinoff of Supernatural just about the angels and have Castiel as the main character.

From what I recall, Dean hasn't apologized to him for that statement, and the suicidal claim got interrupted and never addressed again. This is hands down one of the best Castiel vids I've seen in a long time. The emotion, the song, and the editing all fit perfectly together. I am in tears. I agree one hundred percent with how you feel. I gave up hope after season 9, with the writing becoming shabby and a little repetitive with the plot. So, I watch season 11 only for Castiel (and also Crowley, but that's besides the point) because I always knew that whatever decision he had to make, no matter the outcome, his heart was always in the right place. He did what he had to to save lives. It dawned on me in the middle of season 6 that whenever Dean and Sam call Cas, it was something for their own gain. From what I can remember (Although my memory is pretty God awful to begin with), I don't think that not once Dean or Sam say "Thank you" in a genuine way and when/if they do, it was portrayed in a snarky or sarcastic manner. Or in a "Thanks, but no thanks to you" kind of way. No matter how many times Cas had sacrificed everything on the brothers, it always ended up poorly in his favor. Season after season, he's been used and battered for the most selfish beings that he comes across. Even his wings are torn to shreds. That in itself is heart wrenching to me. I've always wished for more just plain-jane character development between the brothers and Cas to where they would call him down just to, I don't know....Talk? Like normal friends do? And not for something that involves using him? Friends don't use other friends like tools. Castiel does deserve better. Thank you for making this. I hope one day some of the writers get a glance at this and think differently. Now I'm going to cry in a corner while shamelessly writing a Fanfic about this.

I wish that there were more videos about this. Because I really do think it is a problem in the show. I personally love the show and love the Winchester brothers quite a bit, but that is mostly because they helped me understand my relationship with my older sister and understand why she acts the way she does towards me. But that doesn't mean that I don't see the many many faults they have, and their inability to have any healthy relationship with anyone but each other. It makes me really sad that the rest of the fandom seems to not be able to see this and can only see them as perfect little boys who the world seems to revolve around. Don't get me wrong, I like Sam and Dean, but my gosh were they dicks to Cas in Season 6. He was fighting a civil war, a literal _war_, and not only did Sam and Dean not offer any help at all, they also called him constantly for help with their problems and acted like he's obligated to show up immediately to fulfill their demands. And the worst part? He was fighting that war for _them_. He was going up against an ARCHANGEL to try to stop him from restarting the Apocalypse and destroying all of Sam and Dean's sacrifices, and losing badly as a result. Sure, he made mistakes, but he was never, not once, being selfish. And what was he supposed to do when Sam and Dean weren't showing the slightest interest in offering him support? And in later seasons, he's constantly thrown by the wayside when Sam and Dean are doing things for each other's sake, especially in the beginning of Season 9 when Cas needed them more than ever and they just abandoned him. I certainly hope that the Impala scene in "Alpha and Omega" was Dean finally getting his head out of his ass and that they'll treat Cas better in Season 12.

Dude I totally get you, I mean I think Dean is hot as hell but Castiel is my favourite SPN character, and the way he's been treated by the writers (and by extension the other characters) is horrible. I think he apologized the most so far and everyone just acts like Cas owes them all the grovelling but they themselves don't own up to their mistakes towards Cas (mostly the Winchester Bros) and treat him like shit. Yeah, but think of the context. He broke Sam's wall. He damn near killed him. I LOVE Cas, but I think Dean had the right to lash out in that scenario.

This was so painful to watch! I never noticed just how badly he was treated. I realised everyone could be harsh to him, but I never realised it was this bad. Poor Cas! Also, it looks like S11 gives him a great story! I'm not up to date just yet, but from what I've seen it looks like Cas will be way more important this season.

That was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever watched. This is everything I hate about supernatural and how they write the winchesters. Honestly this is one of the major reasons i stopped watching the show in season 9, I was just done with them turning Cas into a joke. The show wouldnt even still be going if it wasnt for this character but the powers that be pretend that isnt true. They dont treat Misha right either and sometimes I think he'd be better off leaving this show altogether.
