I'm assuming the mold itself is made from smooth on brush on silicone? But what is the gray sturdy part of the mold? This is very helpful, thank you!

I'm glad it was helpful! Yep the silicone is Rebound 25 from smooth-on and the grey outer shell is Free Form Air, also from smooth on. Rebound 25 - www.smooth-on.com/products/rebound-25/ Free Form Air - www.smooth-on.com/products/free-form-air/ I have a video on how I made the mold as well kzbin.info/www/bejne/rV60m4t_jqaBn7c

Didn't know about the baby powder technique, thanks! I was having hard time trying to get the resin on the mould coz it won't stay (coz nothing sticks to silicone except silicone)

Im new to casting molds and such, im curious why not have the teeth already casted with the whole mask mold rather than having them as a separate cast? Is there a reason for this?
@BioCosplay
@BioCosplay 3 жыл бұрын
My thought process with molding the teeth separate was that they stick out from the mask slightly and have space behind them. So when I put the silicone on, it would either wrap behind the teeth and I wouldn't be able to pull it off without tearing the mold, or it would only capture the front of the teeth and the might mess up the way the inside of the mouth looked. Also I wasn't sure if the points on the teeth would cause issues with air bubbles. Having them separate, if I get air bubbles and mess up a tooth (which I've done a few times now) I can just recast a whole tooth instead of having to recast the whole mask. I hope that makes sense and helps!

Ok so… Is there a way I can mix like a part of a mask resin and the other silicone? Just curious about a project I wanna do
@BioCosplay

I'm not positive since I've never done something like that. I think maybe you could cast parts in resin and silicone separately, then attach the silicone part to the resin part with a silicone adhesive like sil-poxy from Smooth on www.smooth-on.com/product-line/sil-poxy/ Just remember for casting in silicone parts the mold either needs to be epoxy/another hard material OR if you are using a silicone mold it needs to be sealed well with something so that the silicone part your casting doesn't bond to the silicone mold itself.

Is this resin lightweight? I made a mask, but I also want to hang it on the wall, not needing to be wearable at all. Can this resin be something that Im able to hang on the wall?..
@BioCosplay
@BioCosplay 4 ай бұрын
Yeah it's pretty light weight overall. The thicker it is, the heavier it will be, but you can cast mask fairly thin so I think you should be able to hang them on a wall.

When you slush cast resin into a mask mold like this, how do you make sure that the backside of the mask fits to the shape of the wearer's face?
@BioCosplay
@BioCosplay 3 ай бұрын
This one is sculpted to my face. So imagine the face is a ball and the mold is a bowl. When you clean out the mold, you take the ball out of the bowl and are left with the empty bowl. Slush casting doesn't take up much thickness, if you swirl some liquid around the inside of the bowl, you can still put the ball back in afterwards. So then as long as the amount of resin slush cast is less than the amount of clay used to sculpt it, it'll fit. It would be difficult to make it too thick while slush casting since the clay itself was like an inch thick. The outer edge of the casting can sometimes need tweaking for comfort so it doesn't dig into your face, but that can just be sanded a bit. You usually don't need a ton of layers for slush casting. I don't remember what I did in this video, but for my recent Kaiju No. 8 Mask I do 4-6 layers and that's plenty to make it sturdy but still thin and light enough. I hope that helps!

can you use silicone instead of resin to cast a mask like this?
@BioCosplay
@BioCosplay 3 жыл бұрын
It would be harder to do in a silicone mold. The mold would need to use a release agent and make sure it's thoroughly coated or the silicone would bond to the silicone. If you plan to only do silicone masks from the start, it may be better to make the mold out of something like epoxy like this www.smooth-on.com/products/epoxacoat-grey/ and fiberglass cloth
