Casting zinc ingots from scrap metal

Got about 1000 lbs of zinc at the scrap yard so we melted it down, cleaned it up, and poured 99% + pure zinc ingots. We have a plan for this zinc for future videos so stay tuned!

I don't think I would stand over the ingots while pouring like in the first pour. If anything happens you are now covered in molten metal.

I thought so two. For two pours he poured away from himself. But I concluded if the foundry is 113 years old, maybe those workers had been there a while. I put my trust in them to know what they are doing, but observed the same as you did.

Around 785 degrees F.

some zinc (and some pewter) ingots I poured crystalized and sunk in in the middle. I expect it to sink in a little but the crystalization made it sort of pourous. Am I pouring too hot? Cooling too fast?

@@highonadhd2003 not really, but i tried casting in graphite (insulator) and covering the casting to cool it slowly. crystalizing in the sunken part was still there but drastically reduced.

How do you know that the zinc anodes are pure zinc? I have heard that zinc anodes are alloyed with a bit of cadmium.

I use a file, it will "skate" on zinc and dig into aluminum

Weight is the big one, but the Al will float on the molten zinc

Love the video clip etc, But I need a metal casting ingot mold made up ok - A custom made one for myself, so I can pour molten Lead into it ok to use it for weights etc - Can you Pls help me with this?? You should consider respiration when working with zinc. The fumes can be bad for you.

There is no fumes in zinc I work for a foundary my self and we pore about 120 parts a day but in like them we actually clean our material take out all the dirty residue

It's not really a problem as long as the temperature is not too high. The problem with zinc-fumes is mainly when it's mixed up with other materials and heated enough to create vapour.
