I got the Castle Arts for cost. I buy the Prisma pencils on Blick one pencil at a time cause I cannot afford them any other way. I use the Castle Art pencils more than Prisma. On certain things I use them equally. I'm not an expert either. But I am no noob at colouring either. I think people are just stuck on Prisma being the best. I think Castle Arts blend just as well as Prisma. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using them professionally and getting fantastic results.

Thank you for the lovely video, it’s very helpful! I saw this after placing my order for Castle products as a new drawing/art student. What is your opinion now in 2024 vs when you made this video? Do you still prefer Castle or have you found something better?
@KristophersKornerАй бұрын
I prefer them over prisma color. Though at one point, I thought I liked prisma color, but I’ve learned to hate them, so cheaply made! I know, love pencils that are oil and not wax. Castle art are perfect for a beginner. I also have moved onto alcohol markers. But I think you’ll be very happy with the castle art. If you’d like to try oil, let me know and I’ll help you get the best ones for the cheapest price price. You’ll probably see a video before that. lol.

Hello Kristopher! I´ve also just started coloring and totally hooked. Have looked at the Castle Art pencils but not ordered yet, live in Finland, Europe so Prismacolors are not so easy to get hold of here and even more expensive than i US. But don´t think I would buy them anyway and I´m sure they could not survive shippng around the world with all their problems with breakage and leads falling out so not an alternative for me. You said you have found even better pencils than Castle Art and I´m so curious and look forward to your review of those. Have a great day!

Prismacolors take some getting used to! They’re much more wax-based than most colored pencils. I didn’t like them at first as I couldn’t get sharp details and I had to keep sharpening them. However they result in such a creamy blend! I don’t use them too much anymore though because polychromos are now my go-to. Castle art is a brand I’ve heard a lot about but haven’t yet tried!

@adricjones56053 жыл бұрын
‘Scrapping’ is making scrapbooks. So much more than just slapping photos in an album...we have to pick out the right background color, then create borders, add sticker embellishments, and of course-journaling on the page to make comments about the photos! I’ve been doing it for almost 20 years and it is (I believe) an art form! My sister, some friends and I go to weekend crops (pre-Covid of course) where scrappers get together and work on their projects. The creativity practically oozes it the air! I’m beginning to wonder if there isn’t a wee bit of magic about it!😉 For Xmas/Yule this year my daughter got me a coloring Book of Shadows that I’m loving. That’s what the colored pencils are for! As I color, it becomes a very relaxing and Zen-like activity. I have trouble meditating (flitting thoughts), but when I’m coloring and/or working on scrapbooks, well...it’s almost as good as a bubble bath with candles and wine😂😉 Anyhow, LOVE your posts and sense of humor! Keep ‘em coming! PS If you’re curious, Google Creative Memories Co and take a look at all the equipment and layouts etc to get an idea of how extensive scrapbooking is. I have most of the tools that the company makes (acquired over time). Many of them are useful in other kinds of artwork as well.

One huge difference is prismacolor is wax based. Castle arts is oil based. Great video glad you pointed out the off set core. That is a deal breaker. Who can afford to grind away so much pigment feeding their sharpener pigment and cash. Personally I think prisms chose the blunt points because they ship better with less breakage and make the pencils look longer so appear a better bargain. If we have to resharpen them all why do they bother sharpening them at all? Except to try hiding the offset core. Thanks for sharing this and making my choice easier! Stay safe, vibrant and leave a colorful trail behind you. ✨🌷✨

Primsa are lightfast, blend and layer. I have watcned colorist lay 14 layers with prisma. They are a professional grade pencil with a better price. Castle arts are not light fast but if the only thing you are doing is coloring books then that's fine. Why spend a mountain of money on something that is beyond your needs. I like prisma for the layering and blending. I also own brutfuner square, amazon basics, starjoy 120, crayola & ArtSkill. I have coloring books that hate prisma, and will only take artskill. I have had my big set of Prisma's since v-day of 2008, and this last November I got the 120 Castle set. The difference I have found between them is how many layers of color the page can take of the 2. The Prismas layer on top of themselves and blend better after a certain point, while the Castles it feels like I am scraping damaging the paper and indenting the sheets I placed behind to protect the following page from my colorings. Prismacolors have a steep price and a bit of a learning curve due to their soft cores, too much pressure and tip chipping. And as far as price point goes, dont go looking at getting into say Faber-Castel Polychromos (oil based colored pencils and open stock), or the Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils as a beginner..

Thanks for this comparison to Castle pencils...I’ve heard quite a lot about them lately. I do have a full set of Prismacolors which I love. I bought many of them open stock so I could get picky about checking the cores. One reason they still have a big following and reputation is that many of the current issues with them (misaligned and broken cores) really weren’t prevalent until production moved to Mexico in 2010. I agree they don’t look as nice as other pencils, bit I guess for Prismas, having that uncapped end is a blessing when buying open stock. In the OLDEN times (hahaha....pre digital) when I was taking drafting classes in college, we all had drafting brushes because that crumbling issue (the spots) can happen with soft, regular lead pencils as well :-) I’m enjoying your videos...it’s nice to hear a new voice on coloring!

Do you need a special sharpener for colored pencils ?
@AngelErrene3 жыл бұрын
You should have a separate sharpener for your colored pencils and your graphite drawing/everyday pencils. The graphite ones dull the blades faster than the colored ones do, and dulled sharpeneres tend to cause more snapped colored pencil leads. If you are using a single bladed sharpener currently for both, if going around your pencil once doesn't create a solid pencil shaving, but instead a bunch of tiny broken ones, ur sharpener blade is dull and it is time to replace or upgrade if possible.

I’m sorry but the Castle Arts might look “fancier” although I don’t see anything fancy about them,and yes,there have been some quality problems reported with the Prismas with the wood, but not if you learn how to sharpen them. But as far as performance, there is absolutely no comparison,actually as far as wax pencils, no other pencils come close to the Prismacolors. Also crumbling,that happens with most wax pencils,the softer they are. Blending and layering, you can’t compare Castle Arts or any other budget friendly pencils with the Prismacolors. Just like you can’t compare any oil pencils with the Polychromos. But you need to have other pencils to use in conjunction with the Prismacolors.

try the Faber Castel Polycromos :) my personal favourites. they are brilliant and artist rated but a bit pricy though., just like the Caran d'Ache. to me the Prisma Colorours are like wooden clad Crayons. :) Oh ...Amazon also has a house brand of colour pencils. I heard they have a good price - quality ration. I am totally up to try those.

It has actually because now I have fallen in love with markers. But when it comes to pencils, I’ve also decided that I like oil-based pencils better than wax pencils. Both of those are wax pencils.

I'm in Australia and have to say I love to say its great to see a newbie who does these videos. It February 16th 2021 and I am watching this from my home laying in bed and loving it until it went political. I understand its your channel. But it's your colouring we appreciate and the growth you are achieving. Let others focus on the politics of your country, there is so much of this going on, it's tiring. Trump is gone and everyone has an opinion still. You are magic an escapism for us. Use that skill to grow your channel. Please don't be offended, it was not my intention. Feel you are a refreshment to some, many other colouring channels.

Well thank you for the advice but I am going to say what I feel needs to be said. Too many people are afraid to say how things are with the government here and that is how the bad guys win, no one will talk about them. And Trump is not gone, he still controls the republicans so you are wrong there! That has to change. If people don't agree with me, that is fine. I am sure their are other KZbinrs out there that they can follow.

Did you REALLY send back your Prismas? 🤣😂Like, I can't even , that's great ol. I like Castle, and I have a few other sets I enjoy, but Prismacolor is just my go-to pencil. You cannot beat the creaminess, coverage, blendability... I mean I feel like they blend as well as Caran d'Ache Luminance. I feel like they need getting used to, maybe, but you should give them a chance

Hi again Mo, I did send them back as I hated them. HOWEVER, my friend Holly who loves them sent me a smaller set for a X-mass gift and I used them and started to like them. Now I am loving them and have the big set again. I will be doing a "I was wrong" video soon 😉

@@KristophersKorner I know this is a video from last year, but I was about to say to try the prismacolors on different paper. The paper in your colouring books makes all the difference. Another thing that many colourists do is use a harder pencil such as the polychromos for edges and details and the prismas for blending / shading. Then you get the best of both worlds. Happy colouring.

I completely agree with you!!! I absolutely LOVE the castle art pencils. They are somehow weighed and feel so smooth and well balanced in my hand. They look and feel expensive to me. Such quality. I color so much better with them. I hate prismcolor. I don’t feel like they are much different than crayola but much more expensive than crayola. They were very hard to sharpen, they were scratchy feeling when coloring and would break easy. Castle art has way more color with a light touch I thought. Love ur videos, I feel like you are straight up honest.

I can believe how much cheaper pencil are on US Amazon compared to the UK Amazon! The 150 set of Prismacolour pencils are £135.00 & I think yours were $89.00, it's so unfair! I'm not a great fan of them but I like to use a few of there colours that are a bit different. I have just bought the 72 set of Marco Raffine pencils from Amazon. They were only £20.00 which is pretty good for the UK! I'm just swatching them now, so far they feel pretty good & I have seen some good reviews on them. Here's hopping! Loved the video.

Back when I was in high school in 05 the 120 set was about $300. When I got my first 72 set I paid 68 in 2011? I picked up a 120 set for $60 + on a back to school sale one Amazon and I picked up the 132 set for 47.00 on an Amazon sale a couple of yrs ago. I’ve noticed i haven’t seen them go that low in ages. I’m always looking out of curiosity. Prisms colors are great when they aren’t breaking. I personally haven’t had too many issues with breakage

I have high end pencils and budget pencils, I love Prismacolor, but you really need to learn how to use them, so I don't recommend them for n00bs, I don't own the Castle Art brand simply because they've gotten too big for their britches, they want $50 for a 72 set, and I don't see paying that much for a budget pencil. I've never had any of those problems with Prismacolor.
