I understand that: if a drone hits this monument and a brick falls out, you won't run away, you'll just wait for the police to arrive - and pay a million pounds for the damage? Sorry, but this isn't some abandoned factory, even if (I don't know) in the UK you have to have insurance - I'll bet my gonads: that it won't cover such thoughtlessness. Technically - he was in the building space, not in the airspace: as the law allows him to do.

Its only an issue if you take off on their land without permission, as everyone says, ‘you don’t own the airspace’. But if the drone is more than 250g you cannot go overflying people who might be walking around the place. Ie Whitby Abbey which is another great spot, though spotting from the road side is tough

Awesome flight, video is well done! Appears you were flying responsibly and being considerate of others. Mad respect. Alot of us who have flown for any length of time have has our run=ins with Carins. You handled it well. Have your registration in order, be considerate of others and fly, have fun. When Carins do show up just do like you did. Advise them and don't be mean. That's all you can do. Carins always interrupt because they are not interested in what anyone has to say. To them they are right and everyone else is wrong.

If it’s an English Heritage site then you are breaking the local byelaw in place by flying there. English Heritage and National Trust have a zero drone policy in place and it is classed as trespassing to undertake a task not permitted under local byelaw. Although you may feel the site may be ‘public’, you are confusing public access with a right to do what you want. In this case you are the Karen by enforcing your actions and opinions on everyone despite being in the wrong.
@UbatubadanАй бұрын
I like the angle you’re coming from, however leaving it open to public after closing hours.. with no signs, I use an app regulated by the government to state where I can fly and when I selected this location, it gives me no warnings or issues with flying here.
@TinmanRC_OfficialАй бұрын
@ that’s not how the law works sadly. They don’t need signs for the byelaw to be in effect. Technically you are confusing airspace with ground space. Your app (I’m guessing Drone Assist) shows only what airspace you can fly in, you must still not commit trespass at the point of take-off (this is covered in the CAA regulations and law too). So you can overfly from outside of their land (subject to maintaining separation to the public etc), but you cannot legally take-off from their land, closed or not. Up to you what you do, but understand ignorance of the law is no defence, if the police stop you, you face prosecution for multiple offences, as well as any insurance you may have not being valid. As this is an area open to the public, it can legally be classed as a “built up area used for recreation”, therefore you cannot fly there under the A3 Open Category either, you must be 150m horizontally from it. Rather than telling this woman in the video you are licensed, you should maybe check the law and correctly understand what you can and can’t do.

Just as some context. Annual fatalities by dogs in the UK: 2019 - 2 deaths 2020 - 3 deaths 2021 - 5 deaths 2022 - 6 deaths 2023 - 16 deaths Annual fatalities OR serious injuries by drones over the last 5 years - ZERO.

@@Ubatubadan That's fair, if the "Karen" was citing that is was dangerous then it is a fair comparison. However she's didn't in this case.

Great flying, but I'm afraid to say you are in the wrong here. English Heritage does have a ban on flying drones. While you are allowed to fly in the airspace, so long as there are no other restrictions, landowners are allowed to withold permission to take off and land from their property. That is effectively what English Heritage is doing. I'm also afraid to say that you are not helping the cause of FPV flyers flying in public. These sorts of people are annoying, but such is life and arguing when you are in the wrong does nobody any good here. If you had taken off outside of the property (with permission) and were flying overhead (safely and responsibly), then you would have been fine. Stay safe!
@UbatubadanАй бұрын
Fpv pilots have rights to fly in the uk too, yeah where I overstepped the mark was taking off from there land, however there was nobody there to ask permission from and clearly walking up from the road there was no signs stating I couldn’t fly. Although I do agree with you, it’s frustrating being an Fpv pilot in the UK and not given a space or designated area to fly. It feels like no matter what we do we break the law when it’s a harmless hobby that many benefit from.
@edrone_Ай бұрын
@Ubatubadan hence why fpv will always be and stay a niche hobby. If it's not people telling you that you can't take off or land it's bandos being torn down so fast and they put back up boring housing projects lol 😴 Awesome fly spots are near and far between it seems anymore. Alot of people including myself get burned out from all the constant let downs of this hobby. It's really sad honestly because your right drones do alot of good for mental health but at the same time are being used for war so the innocence of drones is long gone from the publics perception.

Great skills but no such thing as a license, if you had a spotter they should be beside you. There isn’t a 5kg ‘license’ not sure where you are getting that from, took off on EH land which is private land without permission by the sounds of things. So she might have been grumpy but was within her rights, the vid did not go into much detail. Not questioning the skills or the relatively low risk of the flight. But monkey see monkey do.
@UbatubadanАй бұрын
I said I have a license for up to 5kg in the air and I do. My spotter was right next to me and let me know as soon as she was there, she didn’t even make it through the gate without me knowing about it. The drone is bound by the same sub250 rules of a mini 4pro.
@gimbalairАй бұрын
@ what’s the 5kg license never heard of it.
@UbatubadanАй бұрын
@ read up bro, my channel ent here to teach you drone laws, plenty of them around! But even my (A2 CofC) covers me for up to 3kg I think 🤔
@gimbalairАй бұрын
@ don’t be daft. I cannot see anything that talks of a 5kg license. The A2 is up to 2kg not 3kg. If you are in FPVUK fly under Article 16, that will allow up to 25kg for recreation in a recreation area, but more importantly it allows overflight with a 30m separation which is actually better than the A2 and my Operational Authorisation. Go read up. It will be to your advantage if you get Karen’s bothering you. They won’t have a clue. FPVUK £25/yr and includes insurance. Full disclosure though I am an Air Law examiner for FPVUK other model clubs offer similar perks like BMFA
@twigpigАй бұрын
@@Ubatubadan Though I have no real objections personally to anything you did in this video, I've got to agree with @gimbalair here. From a legal perspective, you were technically breaking the law. Even if we ignore licenses and anything about it being private property, drones above 250g can't legally fly within 50m of uninvolved persons in public (even further for drones above 2kg). I'm sure Karen would not consider herself "involved" 😂
