The Frankenstein name is a dichotomy, divided by Mary Shelley's novel and the Universal movies. In the novel, Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) does not name the monster, and in-fact wants to destroy him. In the time of the novel, deformed children were not granted surnames, known only by first names. The Universal movies create the opposite situation by referring to a bride of Frankenstein. Therefore, technically, in the Universal universe, the monster's name is Frankenstein, and "Franky" for short (Frankie is a girl's name, Adam!).
