My mom said when she used to go there with my grandma to help her that is was a beautiful place with wonderful gardens and the most beautiful fire places and joked she wanted a house that looked like it. i think what makes abandoned buildings so scary is how it used to have a heyday, and was a place full of people and now it's all torn down and vandalized because there is currently nobody to keep it alive. and to correlate this with the fear of the unknown, in some or a few cases it isn't known why the building shut down and it is up to you to either imagine or find out the reason as to why the place ceased to run

The reason why theres a lot of pink walls is because pink is used in asylums because the colour is soothing and makes you feel calm so if the patients are frustrated they have a lot of pink rooms for them to calm them down. I hope this was a cool fact about asylums :)

@gemmaiacono9853

Mmh If this was the case you’d have seen one cat, but there are two dead there and I don’t think is a coincidence. Plus they looked like domestic pets, with a good fur and not skinny at all. Unusual for a sick animal. The first things you’ll see in a sick animal if they feel they’re gonna die they stop eating and their fur starts to look bad too. So who knows..

@@gemmaiacono9853 My cat died of old age a long time ago, she was not sick or anything but reached 12 years old, her favourite place outside was under a little cabin across the street where an old house was. I found her there lying peacefully after she didn't come home after an hour which is usually when shes ready for her meal. Cats and many other animals do this, it was a bit eerie how two cats were found in the same house but It's not impossible or weird, that house is afterall, much much bigger for animals then for us.

Please guys, for your own savety: Take Helmets and Masks with you when you explore such old buildings. There is always a chance of falling debris that could hurt you realy bad if it hits you on the head. Also, all kinds of mold, asbestos and toxic stuff in paint (wich you can often find in really old buildings, lead or even arsenic was often used in victorian times for example) can affect your health really bad. Well, there is nothing that can save you from my bad english (sorry for that, I'm not a native speaker ^^). Great Videos on this channel btw! Hearing noises and calling out just to warn any homeless people that they were there to explore. And staying together when they heard noises inside the house just in case they ran into anyone else. They didn't break anything, they weren't running around the house screaming about ghosts, and they were so careful with the items inside the house. Love seeing abandoned exploration videos that aren't about how many ghosts MUST be there.

This is one of if not the best abandoned explorations I've ever seen. So glad it doesn't have any "faked scenes" in it. I hope these guys are still making such videos for us ac ll to enjoy. But, being a cat lover, I was quite heartbroken when they discovered the dead cats in this house. TY guys for making a believable exploration video.

It's really interesting to see a different photographer's perspective having watched Dan exploring in there. If there are people living there it's not apparent where their living space is since there's nothing to indicate recent habitation, and yet the cats suggest that someone is visiting or living there at the moment. Thank you for sharing Brennan, have a great time in Point Pleasant in a fortnight.

The early treatments for mental illness were pretty brutal, even up into the 1940's and 1950's. I'm sure there were many deaths, and the families never claimed the bodies. Families abandoned members they couldn't care for at these kind of facilities. It's sad, our oldest state asylum has so many graves of unclaimed bodies. They spent their entire lives institutionalized. The hospital even grew its own animals and gardens to feed patients. Now there's laws requiring patient consent before undergoing experiments, but if a person is deeply disturbed or in a dissociative/psychotic state, how they can give proper informed consent. That's always bothered me about "modern" mental hospitals.

I’m not a researcher or doctor nor a historian, but I’m going to say that I think back in the early to mid 1900’s a lot of mental Heath treatments were experimental. Of course some of the treatments were just like today- you think they are the best practice, but thirty years from now we will be looking back saying the same thing we are today about treatments a century ago.

when I was in a mental hospital as a teen, they sedated me and gave me medication without asking for my or my parents' consent. they refused to give me blankets, and they let a girl throw chairs at us without restraining her. the nurses were cruel, and they would jab us with needles on check up days until our arms were bruised and blackened. this was in 2013, mind you!

Originally known as “Athol,” the large stone structure on the property was designed by Baltimore architect, T. Buckler Ghequier, the grandson of Robert Carey Long, Sr. (1760-1833), as a home for Charles Joseph Baker. Dr. Alfred T. Gundry acquired the property after Baker’s death and his family continued to operate the facility as a women’s sanitarium from the early 1900s through the late 1980s. Psychiatrist Dr. Sheldon Glass around 1988 and expanded the facility as a psychiatric hospital. The hospital facility closed in 1998 and the building has remained vacant up through the present. During the redevelopment of Uplands, Baltimore Heritage secured a commitment from Baltimore Housing to avoid any demolition. Unfortunately, continued neglect with no active plans for redevelopment places the building at significant risk of deterioration.

God Killer I worked in a building with a black mold problem, everyone was sick there. It gets in the air, all of the clothing we sold, and the cardboard boxes that products were in. It seems to penetrate everything that can soak up any moisture. The lead paint is a problem if you eat it, and the asbestos gets airborne if you drill into a wall or something to create dust. Those are fine as long as they're contained, many buildings still have lead paint and asbestos. I agree the mold is the worst!

Most of the time old buildings have asbestos & lead paint. That’s why some of the old row homes were torn down.

It’s such a shame that this location has since burned down. What a beautiful building.

I agree to a point, I am employed at a homeless shelter and roughly about 75% of the residents here do not clean up after themselves or complain/argue with us in reference to cleaning, I mean really nasty people. The shelter was clean and pretty at one time, but now not so much. Basically. I guess what I'm getting at is that building would most likely look and smell unpleasant, due to the homeless not taking responsibility for themselves.

Jason McIndoe not everyone is created the same. Depression does a fkd up things to our psyche. The place should give them an addres and they’d have to work in order to stay. Most can’t work because you need a physical address. Once you pay your own money it’s your and you take care of it more. Those folks lost all hope. It’s sad.
