Memes / Memetics have been a thing for a very long time. It is a term referencing cultural inheritance, and is a sociological sister term to biological & hereditary science's Genes / Genetics. The term was just re-appropriated by youth culture to describe their shit-posts. Few of those actually have the staying power to be considered true memes though. The hate on millennials was so strong and so long they've had to increase the age range of them several times. Millennial used to mean born around '85 to '95, so you'd be growing up around the turn of the millennium....hence the term. Now it's from like '81 to literally December 31, 1999. "Zoomers" isn't taking off on the hate train hard enough so just keep pushing that Millennial label back! Roll Gen-X into it, no one gives a shit about them anyway! My absolute favorite "Millenials getting unwarranted hate" comment was from my own Mother who is a Gen X'er but has pretty much become a Boomer without the benefits ever since she got fanatically interested in modern day politics. I made a comment about an old lady having a sign on her yard that said "America needs to turn to God" and she said "That's right. You Millennial are so engrossed with your phones and stuff that technology has become your God instead." And she said this with such a mocking tone too. Now while I do tend to agree a lot of people are too into their smart phones but boy it sure does feel funny when I a millennial barely uses his own smart phone but when I need to talk to my mother she's always on hers and never pays attention to what I'm saying. Too busy looking at and posting stuff on facebook or making text messages. :/
@Jazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz5 жыл бұрын
This is very true. I'm 22 and never use my phone publically unless it's detrimental if I don't. Yet, my parents, who were born in the mid-60s, seem to be completely attached to theirs, and not at all for business purposes. Thankfully they aren't hypocritical about it. I still give them shit for it though. Also, statistically speaking, the majority of older folk (60+) have WiFi in their homes, and use the internet regularly, and the percentage of seniors who use the internet is increasing.
