Ones that change the meaning or tone of a song or anime when edited together the right way, or fully realise a song's feel, or are just a good match of sound and visuals, or tell their own stories entirely, etc. Then again, I suppose that's always been how people see anything anime related, and I probably did only get into anime after the people making AMVs grew out of that angst and started making some quality stuff more often. Not that there aren't still the same old kinds still being made and floating around, mind you.
