Even if say don't like Republicans in government/media in USA. I've seen a couple openly speak about the corruption in Police Unions that is generally ignored. Like anything though there are people who have talked more in-depth on the issues and even some with actual solutions on all sides. The problem is the general media and public seem to ignore it and focus on idiotic clowns most of the time. It's why these situations keep repeating as every time an incident happens it's immediately hijacked and derailed... Sadly in my opinion the current situation is no different besides a increase in bad escalation. What I mean is by the time things are done, nothing positive will come from it and if anything the division will just get worse. Be that my perspective is one of pessimism I truly hope I'm wrong for everyone's sake.

that's potentially why the police brutality protests are going so hard in the USA and this time a round. not to detract from George Floyd or other black people that lose their lives to the police for no real reason usually, but there's a soft gauge for how much money people cam spend to come out and travel to these protests. since the country is on lock down due to covid-19, there's no promise that those jobs will even be there in the two years it might take to return to work.
@GhostandChromis4 жыл бұрын
Another thing to add about the last point about the pandemic effecting employment. Not only are people more likely to stay on this issue due to the lack of hiring and employment in general, there are no distractions happening currently that will take the eyes away from this issue. There are no sports competitions. No festivals. No concerts. No conferences. It has long been said the only thing you need to keep the masses happy is bread and circuses. Not many people can afford to buy the bread now with no job, and the circus isn't coming to town. No distractions. So now everyone is forced to actually look around them and confront the society that they have been ignoring, and it has been a rude awakening. This year has been the perfect storm, and frankly I'm glad it's happening.
@BrognusBelgen4 жыл бұрын
They should remove Qualifed Immunity from the American police. Their unions ensure they don't get charged, and Qualified Immunity means they can't be sued (You have to sue police departments, which are funded by the gov't anyways, so they don't care.) If you remove Qualified Immunity, individual officers would be subject to wrongful death lawsuits, and would actually have reason not to wantonly brutalize everyone. The police can only get away from this, because they don't have any effective punishments for misconduct.

This is such a fucking great podcast. I'm glad you guys don't shy away from these kinds of topics. Young dudes listening: please don't look away from this stuff. This is the world we live in and the more we listen to people the better we understand it. Giving police impunity for hurting citizens, and inflated budgets for weapons and gear is just asking for abuse. Add to that an additional incentive (through judicial bias) for hurting people of a certain group (black people), and you can maybe understand why people are taking to the streets. Even if you think it's just a few bad apples, once they hide behind that thin blue line they're protected by all the good ones. That's the change people are asking for: police accountability, and consequences when officers selectively brutalize and kill unarmed black people.

@@SlappersOnly819 that Twitter thread is rife with good information, and Woolies delivery of it all really nailed it home for me; he kept it cool, he was about the data, he was Woolie about it and it was amazing. As for your question: a lot of these protests are blanketed, universal; many Americans have faced the boot of police brutality regardless of the color of their skin. In absolute numbers more white Americans have been killed by the police than any other race, where racism comes in though is that when looking at percentages black males in the United States are 2-3 times more likely to not walk out of a confrontation with police than a white male; despite making up far less of the population, and still lead over Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and men of Asian decent; to name a few. These protests mirror protests of the civil rights era like the Miami riots in the mid 1960s, even as recent as the 1992 LA Riots where many Americans took the street protesting the mistreatment of Americans and minorities by police. I hope I didn't sound too preachy, and if there's anything you have questions of please ask, I just wanna get information out there until I can financially do more to help these causes.

When I was 15, a neighbor who didn't like my family called child services and claimed that I had been an abandoned 10 year old living by himself in a heap of garbage. That day, FOUR cops showed up at my place, while my mom was out at work and I was skipping school due to flu. The four guys almost kicked my door in, no warrant and confiscated all the 18+ video games and movies lying around the entire apartment. We also had a pit-bull terrier at the time, named Buddy. He was a traumatized PTSD dog we picked up from a shelter when he was 3 months old. I don't think he was even capable of barking and the slightest movement of any hand made him duck away, because it scared him. The officers said "Report said you have a banned breed at home, please leash him up". As I opened the door to the room he was in, the cops 30 cm behind me, my dog ran out of the room, wagging his tail wondering what was going on and I caught him in just in time into a hug. I can still feel in my urine that the motherfucker behind me was about to blast my dog's brains out. After that, they left and I immediately called my aunt who's a lawyer. Nothing ever came of it, despite the whole thing being a false report in every conceivable way, because the 4 officers claimed they'd heard someone in need of help behind the door. I know it's easy to be a tough guy on the internet, but I swear, had they killed my dog, I would've murdered all four of them. Fuck cops. Fuck the whole lot of them. However, please don't riot in the streets.

This is coming from a guy in Hawaii who has seen cops do fuck all about actual child abuse cases and they can’t so fuck all cause “they don’t have enough evidence” cause the people that would be searched about it get word and clean up the place enough to make themselves look better while these cops just go in raid style. Also why would they have followed an anonymous tip like this with info that didn’t match up and when the suspected abusive parents weren’t home? Yes the neighbor should have been arrested (probably wouldn’t cause they knew a cop and probably how this all happened as well) but it’s just as much the cops fault cause fucking really, 4 cops when you lucky to get 1 cop to a crime scene till they call for backup?

When I see people saying stuff like this, I have to ask myself why they choose to focus on the rioting. Does that rioting really change anything at all besides making you "feel bad"? If so, how? You could say that it's a negative factor that has some superficial economical effects, but it's also a consequence of people being angry about the police brutality that we're seeing on a daily basis. So isn't that brutality the more important issue? That same police has been arresting innocent people. Shooting innocent people, teargassing them and members of the press for no reason. And, as we all know they've been treating people like shit on a daily basis. Not because of anything in particular, just because they feel like being dicks and they can get away with it. People have the audacity to say that America isn't protesting as hard as other countries. I would like to point out a few things: 1.The Hong Kong protests are all about a single major city that the majority of the citizens of that city are for, with a clear course of action for what makes the protests succeed and fail. The current protests are unclear as to what the main "point" of them are other then the vague wanting of the ending of police brutality, the issue of pointing out a problem, but not providing a solution. Reformation in how cops operate and changes in accountability laws for police are a clear want, but no specific demands have been made yet. 2.In the United States, you are more likely to get shot dead by cops then in most protests(see an number of videos where press and people in their property are shot at despite any shots at those people being illegal) 3. American infrastructure is far more spread out then in most countries. The United States will have more protests in total because local governments all need to be pressured that lead into people protesting in different ways. 4. American riots are more deadly, violent, and long lasting then in most other counties (yes there are exceptions, but the England fuel riots had been more tame then the LA riots around the same time). 5. The US military is getting involved with enforcing law unlawfully. This is unlawful because in order for the president to deploy the military they must use the Insurrection act, but this act only triggers under some circumstances. The Insurrection Act is the way for the president to get around the Posse Comitatus Act, the act that limits how the military can be used in the United States in terms of how they work with law enforcement. The short of what the Posse Comitaus Act says is that governors can call on the national guard (not the army) and place them under the command of local law enforcement. The Insurrection Act can only be enacted in 3 conditions A. Code § 251. At a governor's request (used during the LA riots, this fails because the army is being deployed into Philadelphia without the governor's request) B.Code § 252. When insurrection (the legal definition) in a state is severe enough local law enforcement is not able to handle it. (Used at Little Rock when the KKK had threatened to kill black children for attending school. This fails because a federal judge needs to confirm that there is an insurrection happening in the state that the troops are being deployed to, and this would need to be done in each state that the president is deploying troops into). C.Code § 253. When a state fails to uphold constitutionally guaranteed rights (used after the civil war to enforce law changes from the civil war. This could be argued in a court due to the bill of rights, but that would radically change how law enforcement is allowed to interact with using force, more or less giving into what most people protesting want to have happen. This still fails because no specific instance has been cited and has not been cleared by a federal judge). The military being used illegal is a major issue because it means that any laws that come from this could be ignored, meaning that anyone at the protest could see rights taken away for nothing or killed with no recourse from the people who killed them. Having the military involved also makes events more deadly (this video mentions the use of military equipment leading to more police brutality reports). Please tell me if I am missing any sections from ether act. The requests from governors so far have just been for national guard invoking the Posse Comitatus act, this is a different set of what I will equate to paper work, so no the states using the national guard did not in fact invoke the Insurrection Act.

The gist of it is that no protest = no looter. Protest enables looters and rioters which is why they are correlated. Police have to babysit protester and they become stretched thin (or more accurately they are concentrated in one area) This leave them unable to respond in time everywhere adequately. Peaceful protest can turn into riot easily. Individuals are smart, groups are not. Much like how people are protesting that police should be accountable for their own, so should protest. They need to be strict and quickly shut that shit down so no looting and rioting happens. One of current issue i think is that a lot of the protest are heavily disorganized with no clear leaders. Making it easy for people with bad intentions to turn things to shit. And before im told off as pro-police. Im not for or agaisnt. I abhor all form of violence and we do truly need a police reform. We actually need reform in many aspect of society from academia, politics, police, army, etc. When the people lose trusts in the instutitions is how these violent riot happens. You see them put a tarp over his body and see the dying David Dorn with his turned on phone in his hand trying to mouth something as the guy filming goes “yo R.I.P. my dude” and then I go to “Hoodsite,com” (DON’T FUCKING LOOK THIS UP IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE GORE, VIOLENCE AND OTHER REALLY HARD TO WATCH SHIT) to just learn for the first time yesterday that... oh, you can just watch people die and be tortured on the not Deep Web... I saw dogs get fed a pedophiles balls alive, police brutality on the old, people filming them on their porches and other shit, a Fedex truck dragging a rioters body under his 16 wheeler cause they flashed they had guns and he floored it when they started stealing shit from his truck, tear gassing, prisoners burying Corona victims with the homeless corpses in New Yorks Hart Island, and racism on ALL SIDES... shits fucked all over and it’s a real eye opener to just... see everything in the world. Live. Not really edited. Just... “Hoodsite,com” was a crazy thing to find.

What shocked me the most was, there were I think 4 other cops there, for 9 minutes they did nothing, and while I know racism can be in any race, they seemed to be a group of varied races, faced with this, seeing a cop of a differing race than the man being abused, 1. none of them on a pure human level stepped up. and then after that 2. None of them on a selfish level of "That could be me or my family under his knee" stepped up. At least I could trust pieces of trash to serve their own self interest, but they don't work like people, they are monsters, cruel, inhuman monsters.

So depressing to see that 4 years have passed and so little has changed. In the US at least, not familiar with CA and other countries. There has been a marked increase in the use of alternative first response programs that focus on sending non-police to respond to calls that should not have any reason to need an armed officer. And that's really important and a great move. But that's just one part of the problem and these programs still have a long way to go before they see the adoption level they should be at. But absolutely nothing has happened in Washington, cops that should be locked up still get a slap on the wrist with pay and *maybe* have to transfer, pretextual stops and profiling are as bad as ever, for profit prisons and issuing fines to meet funding quotes are still a huge problem, etc....

Woolie you really need to pay close attention to what is being asserted in research papers vs what people claim they say. A statistically insignificant decrease in the general use of force because of body cameras could easily mean a complete 100% deterrent to abuses of force because of body cameras. In second place, any research paper that has not been peer reviewed means jack squat, I can easily make a research paper that concludes all violence in the world is retroactively caused by videogames, and that is not even getting into the number of papers that falsified data to support their conclusions or research that has design flaws and renders the data invalid due to an honest mistake. Personally I find it hard to believe that adding red tape to being a murderous asshole is going to stop or slow down people who have made a career of avoiding red to be a murderous asshole. Make police misconduct a federal crime, don't let local courts who have a conflict of interest decide when the police is abusing their power, and disband police unions altogether.

The one thing that bothers me about the entire situation besides the repeating process of insanity. Is that everyone agrees law enforcement in the USA specifically has many systemic issues. Why this repeats with no solutions though is because each time it's immediately hijacked and derailed by multiple parties. In my opinion making it entirely about race for example when police of all races and gender have unjustly killed every type of civilian is a major immediate division in a universally agreed issue. For example a man who was white who did nothing died the same exact way as Mr. Floyd had unjustly done to him. In essence without going on and on there is much more complexity to the situation than just racism which does happen. It's also just bad officers, incompetence, power crazed, and etc. It also doesn't help when the rioters immediately hijack many of the protest and beside the few good protesters going beyond to put these bad actors away by working with law enforcement in that instance, that the riots are more common than actual peaceful protest. Also because there have been 10-13 deaths since this started and some are civilians who weren't part of either side or the officer that was killed that did nothing at the time has only made any progress nearly impossible... I do hope sooner than later for true unity, but sadly I won't hold my breath. If anything things will get way worse and I know some of my opinions are consider fringe by how media and corporate false empathize in my view.
@blitzkriegdragon0134 жыл бұрын
Have there been deaths since this has started? I've seen nothing about this. I empathize with you on corporate coopting of movements, but this is about race and police brutality. Black people are disproportionately targeted and attached by cops. The race of the cops don't matter. The problem with the police is that they're department is corrupt to its core. There is no room for his cops because many times good cops are fired or tried for speaking out against their department.

@@blitzkriegdragon013 Yes there has in USA. A man was brutally beat to death by rioters. A rioter was killed trying to hijack a truck and subsequently getting crushed under it. Another rioter was shot dead by a bar owner who was defending his property. A federal agent was killed while another severely wounded by an unmarked whit van during the riots and protest. A officer was killed off duty who was African American. Those are the ones I know off the top of my head without checking the others. Besides that and the immense property damage that has generally effected mostly the black community and poor. Many brutal beatings by a couple law enforcement has still un shockingly happened and many bad actors, wannabe revolutionaries, and rioters have robbed and brutally beaten civilians of all ethnicity. A husband beaten near death watched helplessly as his wife was then beaten and worse... Again I say it's not only about race because statistically and also historically the issues in say law enforcement go beyond say black and white. For example in the bad areas where the black community are in dire straights the crime rate between black on black is high per capita than white on white or white on black. That though in my opinion by evidence has nothing to do about race, but environment, living conditions, broken families, and generational set back that where contributed by vile people who where racist. Again there is much more complexity to the situation and again it is by both bad and good intentions side tracked to focus solely on a specific than the whole picture. I believe in part that some in power want it that way as a divided society is easier to manipulate for those who control information. I'm sure we might likely disagree on many aspects, but I hope we can come to an understanding that none of us want oppression.
@VanTesla4 жыл бұрын
@@blitzkriegdragon013 oh and I know well about good cops getting screwed by the union/precinct. A example was this officer a few years ago who was former military had to deal with a mentally ill man with a gun. This officer in my opinion showing fine example did not try to escalate as the man was try to suicide by cop. The officer was making progress talking the man down without pulling his firearm out. Just when the mentally ill man was going to put the gun down. Another coo car came and the other officer immediately shot the man... The officer who was de-escalating was reprimanded and if I recall taken off duty... That still pisses me off be it a couple years since I saw it. Also besides the issue in law enforcement and the black community in many areas a issue not talked about at all is the in many cases as bad if worse treatment of Native Americans. Also though not bad today. The Irish and Italians where heavily targeted by Law Enforcement for racial or specifically ethnic reasons. Italians because of the Mafia attachment and Irish because of the Protestant and Catholic division. I don't know if you knew this, but in USA in my grandfather's time the Irish where sought out by law enforcement a lot. My grandfather was as a young man even beaten half to death by drunk policeman who hated Irish. The prohibition was also in part placed because of the growing Irish/ Catholic population. Obviously today for Irish or Catholics it isn't bad in any aspect to many black communities today. Just saying there is many layers to this issue that has plagued us for to long.
