Edgelord Malone Oh yes, I plan on making the game generally difficult and more difficult during the night, but what's fun is you'll be playing quite an overpowered character, who is also very agile. If you're quick, you'll survive. :)

That's where you're wrong, my friend. This is a part of a bigger level design, meaning you can walk through the level design you see in this video. Environment design is a big niche with many parts in it, including drawing the environment your story, game or other content takes place in - however this is in respect a level design, meaning it's an environment made by using an engine or other software supporting 3-dimensional worlds. Before accusing others for confusing people, get your facts straight. Thanks for watching!

This is absolutely not level design. This is a vista. The vista can be integrated into a level, but can't be a level by itself.

@@TheCephalus It's not a technical issue, but rather of design. The problem is whole environment was designed for a single camera position. You can't rotate the camera, unless you don't mind showing the void behind the camera to the player. That means the game has to take place in this view as seen in the last few seconds of the video. And this is bad, because it can't accommodate any game mechanics in it. At least not of any game genre I can think of. Beyond that, the only use it has in a game is as a background (for a title screen or a visual novel-style dialog, for example), on which case it's not a level, since it don't have gameplay elements in it. In summary, a level must account for gameplay mechanics and this scene doesn't. All that said, now that I think about it, I can see how it can be used in a point-and-click adventure game at most.

Awesome work sykoo! While I was watching I told myself those look like infinity blade assets... and then I checked the info and yup there it was haha. I just started building some levels with those assets and I love them especially the fire lands and ice lands packages! Maybe I'll send you some pics of what I've done. basically this isn't really level design. Level design is about designing the encounters and in most cases has nothing to do with aesthetic at all. this isn't really environment art either as an environment artist usually creates all the assets from scratch using a program like blender or Maya.

It's called "A Boy and His Kite" under "Learn" on the Epic Game Launcher, not sure if you can still get the asset pack, but you should be able to export from this project.

2 hours ok, but how much more to collect assets and know how and where use them ?

I pick the assets that I'll use under the same time span of 2 hours, which is given to make the level design as an entirety. I almost always go with the flow while building a scene, so there's no huge "sitting-before-hand-and-planning" session for me. :) Basically, the amount of hours I write on my videos is actually what it takes in total for me to make the level from "planning process" till it's actually finished.

I get most of them out of Marketplace. :) The assets in this video are from EPIC GAMES and can be downloaded for free by their demos they release.

+XanderHD i was getting solid 45-50 FPS . I had too high density on my grass when putting them down so that took away a bit from the performance.

I'd say it's definitely more difficult than making maps in Unity (when you're starting), because there are so many differences and it requires a few extra steps before you "can start", such as making the camera become the main viewport in your game through Blueprint etc. I still feel like those steps are very unnecessary, they could've made it more simple than that, but hey that's just me. :) After you get used to them however, you won't feel anything difficult with it - I personally feel like it is easier now since I do not have to heavily focus on optimization as I do in Unity.

I would say first make a playable demo of your game, that way you can do a thing where if one pledges $5 or more they can get to play the demo. Its a great strategy to get a lot of backers. :P

How do you create the foliage?? I understand the assets were part of the Epic Packs but how did you paint the grass?

I added it as foliage in my landscape settings, then started painting while changing their attributes (size, scaling etc.).
