Things are much simplier. It was inspired by Malmsteen's "Far Beyond the Sun" who had crazy popularity in Japan in 80s. Bach obviously influenced on Yngwie however Yngwie hinself told that "Far Beyond the Sun" was homage for violin music not pipe organ's.

There’s a theme in Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse NES, called “Ascending” or “Ascension.” It’s pretty cool, and besides, you’re forced to ascend when you’re there, because as you climb the tower, it begins to sink into the ground; and once your character Trevor disappears from the tube.
