This is probably as close to Symphony of the Night's gameplay that I've ever seen. The zombies, skeletons, and bats appear and move exactly as they do in SotN. I'm extremely excited to play this.

Honestly, it's very nice to see this. Seeing a game with the same overall design as Symphony of the Night is great, and I must admit it touches on nostalgia. I like that Hector's sprite is very faithful to the ps2 movement, but IMO, he should have a slowed down movement, like the 2d Sprites (Shanoa and Alucard come to mind) with some more movement frames, as to seem less stiff. Great work, nonethelesz

The graphics and animations are very good, but I don't know why but it seems like the map needs something more. I would understand if this were a Clock tower map, but I don't know why I feel like it doesn't look like a cathedral map. I think it must be because castlevania games have accustomed us to huge stairs and staircase-shaped platforms, as in Aria of Sorrow, Sotn and Circle of Moon But keep up the excellent work, you are heading in the right direction, I wish you much success my friend.

Looks great! A couple of suggestions, if you would listen to them: -The text of the scroll would benefit greatly from rewording it. If it's meant to be a puzzle, the text should be only a hint and not outright give the solution. Maybe it could read "Foes in tall room... ...gravestones" and the stones could have an engraving of the enemy. -Some of the particle/lightning effects for some of the enemies' attacks don't seem to fit the overall aesthetic and stand out in a not too flattering way. -Blocking should not be a thing in a 2D-vania, because it would make it too easy. At most you could have a parry. -Save rooms are too big. I get it's a direct reference to the PS2 games, but in a 2D-vania saving should be fast and convenient. Even in the PS2 games saving was a chore because of the big rooms. I wish you success in your project, you have talent and passion for the series. I'm sure the finished product will be worthy of praise and you could even become an indie developer with your own stories!

I mean, technically, equip-able Shields existed in SotN. :P What about a compromise for blocking? If it's not too complex [or time-consuming] to program, then make the _success_ of blocking dependent more on Hector's CON stat [less on DEF] versus an enemy's total ATK. I'm no programming expert, but I think it could work on paper similarly to how CON affected things in SotN. ^ At best, blocking could just reduce damage [similar to Jonathan's "Stonewall" stance skill] most times, requiring Hector's CON stat to be *_very_* high relative to an enemy's ATK to negate damage altogether.

The way it is rn guarding an attack causes chip damage based on how strong the blocked attack is compared to Hector's DEF and max HP, but honestly having it rely on CON might be a better play here. I could also make it so stronger attacks break your guard more easily too

I don't want it to be easy in general, but this is the first stage of the game so I think being brutal with stuff would not be a very good idea. My idea was it being medium-easy in the beginning, then always increasing difficulty, just to give the player the time to adjust to the controls and moveset

This looks to me like it is getting smoother each time I like the action feel of it and the guarding feels like a cool addition to the pace of the combat. I think because you don't have to back out of the fight to avoid damage, and it has that rewarding clash animation when you guard successfully. What I think gives it more of an action feel is that it has way more enemies in each screen than the DSvanias at this point of the game. Almost more like Rondo of Blood. Also helps that you run fast by default. RPG elements always worry me though in a castlevania game because they can make combat too easy very quickly.

It will probably like Enhanced Curse, where RPG elements are important but do not ruin the action in the game, as enemies will have a level curve that does not fall behind even if the player decides to farm (although super extensive farming will still make the player stronger)

Parry mechanic should be tied with Luck, otherwise it feels too broken that early on. Simple idea: The higher your luck, the higher the chance a parry will be successful. Of course at the end of the game it will probably parry every physical attack.

This looks great! As someone else mentioned already, the movement animation looks a bit too fast compared to the character's actual speed. Also, it looks like Hector shares Nathan's iron boots! I feel like he falls to the ground too quickly. The cover sounds great too, save for the drums, which sound a bit artificial (not sure if you arranged it). Other than that I think it looks amazing and promising!

Looking great, good job. My only suggestion is to make the blocking a little less forgiving, it seems too OP at this stage, you can block from every angle just by holding the button. Maybe being a timed thing, like a 0.5s before getting hit, or make it a late game item, not an ability.

Don't worry it only looks OP because the beginning of the game is soft. Later on there will be many ways enemies can counter Hector's guard

The way it is rn is that Hector's guard can be broken after a couple hits and causes big chip damage + being vulnerable to getting combo'd afterwards On top of that, strong attacks deal chip damage on block and there will be attacks with guard crush/unblockable properties, or grabs that bypass guarding

Excellent design and i feel like there is a good balance between the map, our status and the design of the level or enemies while we explore in the screen. It will support keyboard and joystick? And there will be keybinding configurables? Outside of that i feel that there is a good flow of combat and exploration and it is fine to be the first level in general. I hope in the future to try the demo. Waiting for more updates!

Hey, an update! Great work so far. I see that MP doesn't passively regenerate, so it functions similarly to CoD. Do you plan on including summons/familiars ["Innocent Devils"], or are _Relics_ the only tools that MP is used for this time?

Innocent devils will be a thing in this game as well. I want it to work like Enhanced Curse, a lot of tools with a lot of stuff to fight against

@@gian2074 That does make me curious about a couple specifics! :D I doubt you're going to do full combo-string movesets for weapons in a 2D game ~ probably more like "special/critical" attacks for each weapon, likely costing a bit of MP for each activation (as per other 2D "igavania" titles). Some of these available weapons already have an elemental attribute attached to their standard attack, and these extra attacks for a few might add an extra element. ^ Though it's certain that you're mainly drawing inspiration from CoD itself [and other Castlevania titles], you might also like to look at *_Vampire Survivor_* (the "Ode to Castlevania" DLC) or even _Grimoire of Souls_ for ideas on more weapons/equipment and enemy variety. A minor question I might ask would be whether or not you plan for certain types/"evolutions" of Innocent Devils to be _required_ for progression; accessing previously-inaccessible parts of the game's world, though I honestly already think this is to be expected. Hector's devil-buddies _should_ be useful! >:D ...It's definitely way too early in the development of this fan-game for me to wonder on whether you'll eventually include bonus playable characters, like seems to be tradition for these "igavania"-style games. That of course should wait until _well after_ Hector's gameplay + story is all implemented and polished.

I admit that this looks cool and sounds like a great idea, my only question for you all is, how do you plan to avoid a potential cease and decist from Konami? Many people who have made fan games based on original games from copyrighted material have often been issued C&D orders from the respective content orders and/or been sued as a result of this. In all honesty, if you can make it work without them coming after you, power to you. I kinda wish that Konami would make more games either like this or even the 3D rpg-type games they made like Curse of Darkness.

Not at all. Konami has a clear policy regarding fan content on their website, which states that copyrighted content can be used as long as it involves non-commercial projects, which this is. To make 200% sure that I could do this, I emailed Konami and was told that I can continue developing this game, as long as I abide by the rules stated before.
