Wow, this is impressive looking! Definitely a much darker palette and tone than the original. My only complaint is that when Dracula's monster form dies it doesn't shoot out the items (from Castlevania 2) like it does in the original.

One small niggle; why would Dracula, of all beings, choose to decorate his inner sanctum with not just one, but TWO gigantic crosses? That's just asking for trouble. Why not hang some braids of garlic from the rafters and throw out a few basins of holy water while he's at it?

To me this is like a Nes version of Castlevania Chronicles here! Which isn't a bad thing here as it's alot more accessible and easier than the original, it has Simon's Quest-like colors but also alot of Castlevania 3's design interior as well. Only bad point is some missing enemies but maybe that's it's point?! Still a great hack, imagine if this came out in 1987 sigh...Sure wish some would do Goonies 2 with a new look or level design but maybe that's asking too much with it's front and backwards worlds here...

I would love to see even a 3d remake of Goonies 2. Imagine Konami getting their ambitious fire back retooling the first-person levels hammering away the walls to get keys opening doors and rescuing the kids from their cell.

I'm a huge fan of castlevania hacks. My favorites are Holy Relics and Chorus of Mysteries. I just downloaded this one and I'll give it a shot later. I'm expecting good things based on what I've seen and what people are saying.

Its nice,but for someone that played the game (original) for years it just looks different but sounds the same,no surprise factor,changing the sounds would make a nice revamp of the game I've seen way worse,the graphics are really good !!

The layouts are different and, to be honest, the graphics are nice. In fact, this might be one of the few hacks of the first Castlevania that doesn't make my eyes cry bloody murder.

I think you need to go back and look at the original castlevania. It's way different. Most of these Castlevania hacks are reformations of the original game. But this is definitely one of the better ones I've seen. And there are a ton.

From level 3 onward he went a little crazy with the levels. Replaced the lab, put a forest on the last level. Not a fan.

It's exactly the freaking same game except the guy looks like Conan. The backgrounds are a little different and enemies. The levels bosses, and music is the same. I'm not impressed and I prefer the original for sure.

Same game, different name. All I see are sprite and pallet changes and swaps, slightly edited platforms, and...well that's it. Nothing else is different at all. No actual work went into this to make it a "true hack". If you want a true hack, play Castlevania: Chorus of Mystery. That at least was done with imagination, fan made enemies, and fan made almost everything.

Speak for yourself. I personally seek hacks that give a different flavor to a recognizable game rather than necessarily change everything. Enhancement hacks are still "true hacks." You don't have to like them of course, but it's rude (and frankly seIfish) to devalue somebody's efforts just because you don't personally like it. This hack still took a lot of time and skill to make.
