About 3 or 4 years ago I was having an eye exam for reading glasses. They found that I had cataracts and said that they may become an issue in a few years. I started a strict carnivore diet in November 2023. In July 2024 I went for another eye test for glasses. They couldn’t find any indication of the previous cataracts. I am 72 years old and my vision has improved to the point that I can read small print without my glasses. The optometrist also mentioned that I have extremely good unaided long vision.

About 10 years ago I noticed that my wife's eyes looked a bit cloudy. When I said something she said she saw rings around lights at night. I looked on the web and read about using 100% organic non hexane processed castor oil. I bought some. She put 1 drop in each eye once a day. Within a week the cloudiness was gone when I looked at her eyes and she no longer saw rings around lights at night. Unexpectedly she also noticed the floaters were gone as were her dry eyes. She is 74 now and has used one drop in each eye every day. Castor oil is inexpensive, easy to use, has no apparent side issues, and doesn't require the expense of a doctor or pharmaceutical drugs. Real world results that have no hope of producing monopolistic profits for doctors and pharmaceutical companies stand little chance of being studied. When you two get older and have these issues perhaps after researching the side effects of cataract surgery and various pharmaceutical drugs you will try castor oil for yourselves and your loved ones. Kinda like pediatricians who refuse to give their own kids any vaccines.

Castor oil penetrates skin faster than any other oil. It has become my moisturiser. And I have extremely dry skin Now about the eyes. I was diagnosed with dry eye syndrome over a year ago. The doctor sold me eye drops for it. My eyes became dryer than ever and irritated. I decided to try castor oil. So for over a year now I am applying 100% oil on my eyes copiously twice a day. Not just around it. A lot of it goes in. Not only it fixed my dry eyes but also during the allergy season. Previous years my eyes would be very irritated with all the pollen in the air. No more! No, I haven't changed anything else in my life routine. Castor oil is a preventative approach and there is no money in it for the pharmaceutical companies. I don't think it penetrates skin at all. Or very little. But it is amazing to moisturize dry skin on the surface. Fr I've had dry skin for all my 32 years, no moisturizer has worked, skin goes dry again within 10-60 minutes. I started mixing a dollop of castor oil to the moisturizers whenever I apply it, it leaves my skin healthy and not dry for days. Like, dry scaly lizard looking legs, to healthy looking legs in one application. And it lasts ALL DAY. I apply it in the morning, and when I go to bed at night the legs still feel a bit oily (which is proof as to why it absorb into the skin, it sits on the surface like a protective barrier). Also great for feet.

Sounds implausible that an oil can actually penetrate the skin down to deep tissue, however I know for a fact that castor oil DOES! My nephew's wife had sharp pains in her abdomen and a scan found she had a cyst the size of a tennis ball on her fallopian tube. I happened to watch a youtube video with excerpts from a brilliant Australian naturopath, Barbara O'Neill, who showed how to apply a compress of castor oil to the stomach area every day for tumours, but it takes around 3 months. I told my nephew this but of course his wife didn't have 3 months to find out if it worked as she was in so much discomfort and had to have it surgically removed. However, they found she had a smaller cyst on the other side and she started to apply the castor oil compress to that area every day for around 2/3 months and her follow up scan showed the cyst had gone. AMAZING.

Correction for the statement made by Dr Eye Health at 3:15. The pupil does not help focus the light; it controls the amount of light that comes into the eye. It opens when it's dark and closes when it's bright, just like an aperture on a camera lens. This also controls the depth of field (the distance range in focus), which is greater with the more closed pupil.
@MoSec912 күн бұрын
Cool. I definitely know more about cameras than about the eye. But “focusing the light” makes a lot of sense to me. I have prescription glasses for nearsightedness but I rarely wear them because I rarely need them. But when driving at night or during rainy dreary days and I look at a road sign that is farther than 500 feet I see too much light/brightness along the characters I’m trying to read- so I squint my eyes to “focus that light” on the characters and prevent it from being shiny. That’s the intention and what it looks like I’m doing. Focusing distance range, like you explained it, may be accurate but doesn’t sound as intuitive I guess.
@DoctorEyeHealth12 күн бұрын
That is technically correct, the pupil size does change the depth of field, but for explaining things simply, I think it fine to use it in such context.

I have used castor oil to moisturize my eyelids when, for whatever reason, they became dried and scratchy, even looked like they were becoming infected - likely due a very dry environment. I didn’t use it because I thought it some miracle cure, but simply because, if any did get into the eye I knew it would not have an ill effect. After all, it is in eye drops. I used a procedure I thought might be helpful: 1) wiped eyelids with wipes recommended by my doctor before my cataract surgery. (On its own, didn’t work. Seemed to dry surface even more, but helpful in removing possible sources of infection. 2) Used a sterile pad soaked in warm sterile water to apply moisture to the surface. Left in place for about 5 minutes. 3) Used a sterile swab to apply a thin layer of castor oil to the damp surface. I’d tried other recommendations but had no success with them. This left my eyelids feeling normal - no itch, no dryness - within a few hours. Did the Castor oil “cure” the problem? I don’t think so. It merely gave protection against environmental drying effects which can cause all sorts of damage to the tender skin around the eyes.
@tkorte10112 күн бұрын
I think the doctor came close to understanding a possible mechanism, but missed it. I suspect the degradation of the lens is caused by external environmental effects that penetrate the eye. When an eye has had its barriers weakened, for example with dry eye, external contaminants are able to reach the interior and cause damage. I think castor oil helps the body heal the surface of the eye and then the body can do what it can to heal the interior of the eye. So basically castor oil can help indirectly. I know from personal experience that applying it to the eyelids before bed provides a huge improvement in dry eye effects. One of the most annoying things about contemporary 'scientists' is that they often refuse to believe anything unless there's a study done on it. It's like gravity didn't exist until Newton saw the apple fall to Earth. It's a hallmark of arrogance and hubris.

"One of the most annoying things about contemporary 'scientists' is that they often refuse to believe anything unless there's a study done on it. It's like gravity didn't exist until Newton saw the apple fall to Earth. It's a hallmark of arrogance and hubris." It's true that scientists default to 'is there a study on it?' mentality - I do the exact same thing; however, the flip side is we over value stories and untested hypotheses as fact, which is far more harmful to the public, even if acknowledging things exist before studies identified them as true wouldn't hurt.
@tkorte10112 күн бұрын
@Physionic I'm not saying all anecdotes should be accepted as fact, and actually I think you're reasonably well balanced in your presentations for the most part. But there's a difference between something not being studied and something being studied and proven as false, but those two scenarios are frequently conflated and the result presented as science. Science is actually supposed to be about explaining observations using the scientific method, not denying observations that haven't been studied. As for my theory on eye health, it comes from actual experience with my dog's cataracts and how they progressed. At one point when he already had them but they weren't that bad, I had painted something outside and let it dry but because it was cold I brought it in after it was tack free and put it in the basement to cure. That was around lunch and at suppertime i noticed that my dog's cataracts had gotten way way worse over the course of the afternoon. I couldn't smell any paint fumes but then realized I had been clearing my throat a lot, so obviously there were fumes present. Needless to say I immediately removed the item from the house but the fumes had penetrated his eyes and caused damage within the lens. One eye is far worse than the other and after much thinking and observation I suspect it's because the eye surface was weakened by his window surfing in the car, which probably caused the leading eye (the left, because he was always out the passenger window) to develop dry eye or some other form of surface degradation to a greater extent than the other. I know this isn't a scientific study and my conclusions might be incorrect, but I can think of nothing else that fits the observations. I thought back further and I'm pretty sure his cataracts started when I began using a bathroom cleaner that turned out to have highly irritating fumes, which fits with the protective breakdown theory.

Great stuff! Would love for you to dive deep into castor oil for your skin (in general), and if it helps build up or decrease your facial fat. you'd break the internet diving deep in to this! And anecdotally, doing red-light therapy 4-5 days per week with my bioxmax, I have noticed that my vision has improved. I keep my eyes closed (no goggles).

Try imagining it is someone you actually care about that needs help and instead of pursuing things that would actually help them they instead waste their money on something that doesn't improve their condition while passing by things that have a track record of helping people in their situation. That said, people gotta live their lives. I have enough trouble living my own.

Recently diagnosed with Rosacea. I switched to castor oil as the Metronidazole wasn’t a cure. Still got the pimples. They just weren’t as painful. Twice a day and the pimples went away. A little redness so I still use it. I’ll put a drop on my finger and go around each eye, including the eye lid. The thing I noticed though was my eye redness and gunk in my lashes went away. Perhaps it interferes with the mites I unintentionally farm? Just postulating. lol

I can’t take it anymore. I had some type of preseptal cellulitis a year ago and then it turned into a chalazion. I had to have surgery to get cut and drainage. Unfortunately ever since then the eyelid which the surgery was done has given me problems it is feeling like it is in painand it is constantly dry and itchy. I went to several different ophthalmologist and the most recent one did a few tests and he told me that I have my meibomium gland dysfunction. Or MGD . I don’t know what to do anymore but my eyelid is also very squishy. It’s like I can hear it clicking and popping. I don’t know if it’s an allergic type of reaction because it does seem like it gets worse at my girlfriend‘s house and she does have a golden retriever dog That goes to daycare but I’m really not sure I just know it keeps bothering me so much mentally that I am totally at the end of my rope, and I can’t take it anymore

Have you (all people) ever read about some topic, how science has just now noticed how things are not the way science understood them before. Science changes. And everything hasn't even been tested yet, more and new information is coming all the time. Otherwise, we wouldn't need to have scientists at all, let's stick to the same old knowledge. We blindly believe that old information. That information is real, as long as it is refuted by new information. Intelligence is flexibility in thoughts.

I, too, have heard 100s of "benefits" of castor oil and always ask How is this different from other oils? When looking at ingredients in eye drops, I discovered that Systane actually contains mineral oil, so I asked my retinal specialist. If mineral oil is bad for your skin, how can it be good for your eyes? He simply said yes and mentioned a lot of his patients liked Ivizia. My eyes felt worse with Systane and really with most drops after extended use. I recently bought Bausch & Lomb Biotrue because it has glycerin as active ingredient and included sodium hyaluronate. So far so good. I have macular degeneration and had vitreous detachments in both eyes last year, so I was curious about eye drops with hyaluronic acid since it is naturally occurring in eye fluids. Quite frankly, I find ophthalmologists don't really seem to have any good recommendations for eye moisturizers and virtually no real advice.
@petermacdonald633213 күн бұрын
So you’re wearing contact lenses? Biotrue is a contact lens cleaner but you’re using it for hydration?

Systane doesn't contain mineral oil, only Systane Complete. Systane Complete contains mineral oil in an attempt to stabilize your tear film and prevent evaporative loss. I do not find it effective for me (regular Systane is better), but I am sure it works for some depending on the cause of their dry eye.

Something cause cataracts to form- having cataracts are not a survival mechanism-Ugh! Metabolic Syndrome (MS )probably increases the rate that the lenses deteriorate. Diabetes is associated with increased formation. The Doctors here don't know how castor oil might improve cataracts, but they probably can't fully explain how MS results in the increased rate of cataract formation. The eyes are in a continuous process of healing. Castor oil may interfere with the destructive effects of MS on the eye and allow the natural process of healing to improve the cataracts. Lack of studies is unfortunate.

Someone told me about vitamin E years ago. He said to put it on your eyes and it would help your vision . Because I had a friend that was a ww 2 Vet that had cataract surgery, I tried it. That was over 20 years ago. I haven’t had cataracts and I am 73 now . I only use it semi-often. I also started taking Lutein and zeaxanthin about 6 years ago. It prevents macular degeneration . And it can restore your vision if you start having it. Your eyes absolutely need these nutrients.

@ Break open a vit E capsule and put a drop on the eyeball before you sleep . You’ll notice a difference when you wake up. Don’t use it in the daytime because it makes a film that gives you blurry vision for a while. I normally put it on for a few nights . Vit E is the only vitamin that restores tissue . I learned that years ago when I had a 2nd degree burn on my hand , and put Vit. E on for a month. My hand is healed. A nurse told me about it then.

If a lot of people are saying it reversed their cataracts, that's an anecdote to take very seriously, even if you don't understand how it would work mechanistically. Scientists treating all anecdotes as literally zero evidence is very anti-Bayesian, i.e. wrong. There are some situations where anecdote is worthless (highly multi-factor diseases), and some where you can have n=1, and basically be 100% certain that something works (as long as there is no other plausible hypothesis that fits the data).

I’m sorry, but “the truth exposed” is just wrong. You state that there are no studies that would settle the issue conclusively, but then make a decision based on “well, I don’t see how it could work”. While I personally would lean toward an expert opinion, it is still an opinion and an opinion based on currently available knowledge does not measure up to the standard of definitive proof.
