I remember when Sehwag retired in 2015, and he had an interview with Sudhir Chaudhary of Zee news. He asked Sehwag that he has played under so many captains, ganguly, dravid , dhoni, who is his favourite. Sehwag straightaway answered - Anil Kumble. He spoke about an incident, where Kumble was the newly appointed captain, and Sehwag- Gambhir were test openers and were roommates as well. One night, suddenly Kumble came to their room and told both of them- You'll play the next 4 series. Just give your best. Sehwag debuted under dada, scored his first 300 under Dravid, won the world cup under Dhoni, still he named Kumble as his favourite even though he only captained the team for only about a year. It's so sad that our present captain considers such a character useless. Anil Kumble is surely India's biggest match winner.

I was / still am the greatest fan of Kapil Dev, who brought so much self-belief and respect to Indian sport (leave alone Cricket), and greatest joy post-Independence (winning '83 WC). However, if I have to put my finger on the greatest match-winner ever for India, it has to be Anil Kumble (let's say both are my favorites at same level). No one as won matches (for me, Test Cricket is real Cricket) than Anil. No one tried harder than him and had self-belief as him (Kapil will be on the same pedestal). The only difference b/w him and Kapil is that the latter is supremely talented. And that's what makes Anil so special! No one on this earth out-performed his/her abilities as him. For all his greatness and aggression etc...Virat has done the greatest blunder ever by an Indian Cricketer! Whatever might be the inside story, whatever might be the dress-room story, it should not have happened! Mark my words: He would have won you the recent England series (which we so badly lost 1-4), and probably South Africa series too. We lost those series not because of lack talent or ability, but because of lack of discipline, tactfulness, and, more importantly, planning. Those were Anil's forte. He would have fought (with BCCI) for side/practice games before the series. He would have kicked the back side of some cocky (such as Dhawan, and to certain extant Kohli himself) and some lazy (such as Umesh Yadav) cricketers who lack mental discipline (throw in Ravindra Jadeja too in that bracket, and to a certain extant R. Ashwin for hiding his injury). Mr. Shastry, neither has the vision, ability nor the guts to take such actions. There is too much of Punjabi Punjabi thing (by Kolhi et al) going on which is hurting Indian Cricket. Not sure why are we still entertaining a flat-track bully Shikhar Dhawan in this team, other than that he is a close friend of Virat and a fellow Punjabi (which Virat seems to take more pride in, than being an Indian). He does not have the intellect to learn from mistakes. He will let the team down in the Australia tour too...mark my words!

I have always rated him and other bowlers over the so called FAb 4/5 because it is mostly the bowlers who win you matches as many a great has said and we indians, the media, the corporates and the so called experts are always busy in glorifying the batsmen, and that is one reason why we didn't get youngsters taking to bowling as compared to batting because everyone wants to be in limelight and share the glory and as a bowler you are treated as a second grade citizen. Little by little things are changing and earlier pataudi gave the glory to his Fab4 the spin quarter and then came one Kapil and I would say no other players like srinath, zak, bhajjji and now Munaf and others got their due share of credit and they were always in the shadows of batting greats. I believe strongly that mindset has to change as far as it is a team game all contribute to a teams cause and everyone should be treated equally yes ofcourse some one special deserves a special treatment but this guy the most special of all of them put together didnt get what he deserved and the last thing unfortunately happened was the way he was treated by our current captain and the management, I pray to god that nothing of such sort happens to such a great in the future. A very committed player and a true gentleman. Hats off and a big salute, Jumbo love you.
