This is their finest album by far in my opinion. Play it 3 times. It simply blew me away when it came out. I'm 61 now LOL! Oh, and "Just" is my favourite Radiohead song of all time.

Good choice, I personally prefer In Rainbows, but The Bends is a masterpiece. "Just" is one of my all time favs too.

Radiohead always make me feel so many emotions during most of their albums they will always make you feel something and they are very cathartic if you are dealing with some issues like grief.

You nailed it by calling it a superb road trip album...some of them will grow on you - "Street Spirit" one day will sink into your brain and punch like Mike Tyson emotionally and musically - this was an incredible 2nd album coming off :Pablo Honey" (which despite all the hate also has some killer early 90s straight rock gems) it is such a step up its hard to believe, but to then go right into 2 albums people - not just some but a LOT - call the best albums ever made is one of rock's landmark accomplishments (which one depends on taste and when one heard them and such) Like you mentioned some of Kid A didn't vibe with you, me too, but much worse - man I was so mind blown by OK Computer - and still am 25 years later, Kid A left me dazed and confused and I left my new favorite band of all time for 7 years after it until....yup - I happened by accident onto a live PBS viewing of In Rainbows: From the Basement, which is a Radiohead experience of a lifetime - music experience of a lifetime to see and get to know the band and just how insanely great they are, here one of the great albums ever made in a way that seems impossible as you observe it - if you have not seen it yet what a treat you have waiting. I stumbled on it, just was so elated my band could still do something so over the moon as this, then I hopped on YT and watched an acoustic set of Thom and Jonny playing my since all time favorite song, period (not on any album you have heard yet so it is a treasure to come - called "There, There" - brought me to tears it was so amazing, and just like that I came back to Radiohead ALL IN. And of course wanted to see what I missed in Kid A as by then the accolades had amassed - and after all that time - it literally took 7 years for many of those tracks to finally hit for me - I finally 'got' that album and why it is such an astonishing piece of art (i.e. Dark Side of the Moon though OKC gets more comparisons there- that is what RH is though. I had wanted another OKC so bad, I left the band. And that was after just 4 years earlier when out of the blue they became my favorite musicians in the world with one magical album I viewed as the first perfect album I'd ever heard (and I was a well rounded musical encyclopedia of genres and bands coming through High School during grunge and classic hip hop, the mid to late 90s onset of electronica in college, and still loved all my old classic rock from the 70s, and still nothing touched Ok Computer to me and nothing has taken its spot still). The point of that run-on into run-on sentence, is this band morphs their style with each album, and is unlike any other - they have the same 5 members, producer, and album cover artist for 30 years, (7 members really in that sense) 5 albums in the Rolling Stone top 500 - that poll taken with the appropriate grains of salt it should be (Amnesiac drops in and out but the 4 you now know are locked in there as they well should be) R&R HOF - 7 of 9 (would have been 8 of 9 albums but the Bends got over-looked ironically as they weren't a smash success yet)nominated for best alt rock Grammys and a few best Albums as well an some wins but no one respected them yet when the Bends came out so it didn't get one - but those feats are once in a generation for any artist. But their magic is in how their songs grow on you sometimes after multiple years - it CAN be one background riff or wavy synth sound to do it - like one off Amnesiac called "Like Spinning Plates" I was so disinterested in, then literally one time in my car like 11 years after I dismissed it, it hit me like a 100 tons of stone cold awesomeness and remains as such. Hard choice where to go next - I'd say give the new release a try, Kid A Mnesia - listen to Kid A as you know it now and let it roll right into check Amnesiac (uneven but some of the most incredible music you can imagine on there - and the new material they put out with it has a couple great great songs. Then maybe Hail to the Thief, a busy long tracklist with so many ideas but so cool and awesome to fee that transition from KidAmnesiac to In Rainbows as it is the link and such beautiful music and crazy cool ideas. Then I'd get the 2 controversial ones under your belt with Pablo Honey, then the under appreciated though definite experimental but way more solid then it gets credit for, "King of Limbs" before going to what may really be their 5th best album "Moon Shaped Pool." Just some advice from an avid fan. And get to the From the Basement show as soon as possible - they bring you in and give you such a personal connection and are just sick to watch anyway. And you'll never hear their music the same way again , in a good way. It took this heartbroken OK Computer devotee off his 7 year travel into the blues and back to this epic world.

Holy Smokes appreciate that so much! I definitely will follow your suggestions I really appreciate it. I listened to the basement version of in rainbows and was blown away! it's what made me go and buy the vinyl. The emotion in all I need and videotape and just the rawness of bodysnachers... Man it was special. Can't wait to do more for the channel! Thanks

I enjoyed this. I'm in my 30's and been listening to Radiohead since Pablo Honey. Watching their transition and following them has been a journey and an inspiration. What other commenters said - Listen to Street Spirit some more. I was too young to appreciate it when it came out, but now... Gonna check out your other videos now.

If people could listen to this album objectively, without knowing what came next, I think more people would talk about it as a great rock album. Just rock and roll. Just stupidly catchy melodies and satisfying chord progressions. It's still on my list of top ten straight-up rock albums. It's not prog rock. It's not challenging or dissonant. It's not ultra-cutting edge like OK Computer was. But they definitely started to toy with electronica, ambient/mellow ballads and non-traditional song structure here. And his voice is sublime, even if the vocals are more traditional.

Fun fact! Thom was fuckin shwasted singing Planet Telex. And My Iron Lung is actually a live recording. This album is seriously _solid_ . Not a single bad track. I had listened to Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief, and In Rainbows before this one but I don't think any of them blew me away like The Bends did.
