(8:50) It really is that simple; Joker, Hero and Steve have a video playing instead of actually using the in-game engine. This is why this home menu thing works, as well as the slow down / speed up glitch also works with them. (Where the video plays slower/faster than it should, but the final smash still completes after the same amount of time, so a slow video is cut short, and a fast video stops at the last frame). "MP4" is a video format, not necessarily what they use, but it's similar to how people call any video on social media as "GIF" (even Twitter itself labels videos as "GIF"). Lazy cuoqial terms.

I think the difference with mining on moving roads is that Spirit Tracks is moving parallel to the screen and the other stages are moving perpendicular to the screen. When moving parallel, part of the track will start on the left side of the screen, and move to the right, so the ground is actually moving as far as the stage is concerned, and since it moved out from under you, you don't get material. With the other stages, the ground is always there and it's technically stationary as far as the plane of movement is concerned. It's just coded to do damage/knockback to give the illusion of motion. I suspect stages like Big Blue would also fail to mine, if you could find a way to not get swept away.

I feel like perhaps the reason that Street Fighter music mechanic works on the Smash stages while the other transitioning music tracks don't is that you fight Ryu on the Battlefield while the default music from Suzaku Castle plays in the background during his Fighter's Approach unlock match. So my guess is that in the original version of this game the music had already been coded to work as normal on Battlefield while by version 8 all the other tracks didn't really have that thought through as they are not used under specific conditions in said stage.

The Ninjara spirit swaps to his mii costume when you purchase it. Meanwhile Spring Man and Twintelle gets no stage or music update, even though they’re also in the spirit board. So I’m guessing they’re just not bothering to update spirits that already have fights in the game. Ninjara didn’t have a spirit battle in base game and the Cuphead spirits were added in an update.

I do have an answer for that spirit tracks part! It’s because of how the roads are moving. Since the tracks are moving from side to side it is probably because the spot Steve is mining from keeps moving and restarting as opposed to the roads in F-zero

I think the reason Spirit Tracks doesn’t yield materials when the track is mined is because the track is moving horizontally and therefore moving too quickly to mine. If you move Steve across a stage while mining there will be points where he moves too far from a square and begins mining another due to being closer to it. The Spirit Tracks stage is moving so fast Steve can’t stay “locked” onto a spot long enough. F-Zero stage scrolls vertically (and SNES doesn’t really scroll at all I think it just looks like does due to the edge of the track moving) so it’s possible that scrolling from front to back doesn’t affect Steve’s ability to stay locked onto a spot since Steve himself is snapped to 2D movement.

For the Mii costumes, Rex and Callie & Marie spirit battles also do not change the battle so that it uses the Mii costume you owned of that character. However it appears that Ryo Sakazaki, Creeper, and Piglet spirits DO in fact replace the character with the Miis with the costume. What’s in common with the spirits that do change for the Mii costumes is that they are spirits that appeared post launch after the game released via updates, meaning they only change the spirit battles if they appeared post launch. So we can assume that spirits that were part of the original game like Akira, and some mega mans don’t change their spirits, but others like Veronica from dragon quest, will change their spirit battles.

It is also a confirmed Nintendo fact that Mario does not hit his head againts the blocks, but his fist, which is extended slightly above his head. They also made a funny comment answering that question, from memory I think they said something like "His brother Luigi on the other hand is not that bright...". for the Min Min thing, it's because Min Min (Spirit) is a base-game spirit, and shows up in World of Light. the way I understand it, Nintendo isn't keen on putting DLC content in base-game or single-player gameplay without the person having purchased it already. Cuphead is likely an exception because the Cuphead content was added after launch

For the mining on Spirit tracks fact, i believe this is because it takes time to mine the block, but because the floor moves too fast so you don't have time to mine the block because it moves along horizontally. For the F-Zero stages it is fine because the blocks on the floor don't actually move, it's just visual.
