A real challenge that one! 🙂 In the 1930s. some small colliers departing Lake Macquarie (immediately south of Newcastle NSW) used this method at times when moving astern through the narrow (opening) road bridge opening at the mouth of the lake. The aim was to angle the ship so as to encourage a stronger water flow on one side. to scour sediment and ensure there was enough depth for the ship to pass through-stern first. Amazing how the old timers coped on small vessels with no tugs or any other real assistance.

seems like you'd be better off setting up the ship for med mooring instead of doing this regularly
