I feel so sorry for the youth of today. Tied to their phones, social media. The days of Pringle pullovers, Gazelles, Lois jeans, the ordinary, chasing, getting chased, the conflict, the aftermath, the laughs on the way back, getting to work and then planning the next sortie. Take me back please. I hate being 55.

Searching the length and breadth of Britain for the clothes, appearing in the pub with the latest gear, proud as fuck, then wearing your latest, best threads on the terraces on a saturday before hitting the bars and clubs (sometimes with a black eye or two, or even worse, a pulled jumper, ffs we'd rather have lost a tooth!) Smelling of Kouros or Paco Robanne, refusing to hand over the Burberry or Aquascutum scarf at the cloakroom cos we knew some sly Scouse type would blag it, then into the club for a night of soul/funk and stories of the day's events on the terraces and stations. Getting laid was something else, made us feel 20 feet tall, don't deny it! Loved those days, what a time to be 18+, what a time to be a football fan, what a time to be into fashion, what a time to be into women, into music, into life!

Never really used the word casual. Trendy at first then moved on to Dresser from about 85 just my personal view as it was different up and down the country. Been dressing since 1983 when I got my first Pringle, bleached my own jeans and got a pair of Nike court supreme , Pringle was out my mom’s catalogue and was £25 , she must have been paying it off for ages , God bless her. Still dressing at 53 and I’m lucky enough not to be bald and fat so still carry it off 🙂 obviously no tracksuits , Moncler , Belstaff,, Ralph , Armani , 6876 , P&S , Cp but no goggles , Lacoste , Aquascutum, Burberry my favourites. Can’t see myself ever stopping. Great photos and top tunes. Those were there days …….

Leeds here mate. Similar to you, first piece of proper clobber was a diamond Pringle in 82 I think. My family were poor as church mice but my Mum got it from someone she knew from church who was in a golf club. I'd been pestering her for it for ages and like you say it must've crippled her to buy me it but that's what they did for you isn't it. After that she let me use a school grant she got for me so that I could buy a Tachinni track suit at £125! My Dad was on £25 a week dole money! They were fantastic time back then though, wearing the clobber, searching for what gear was gonna be the next in-thing, a different adventure every weekend and away games up and down the country. Fear and excitement and just a massive buzz with trouble almost guaranteed every weekend. I was at Brum in 85 what a crazy day that was. Wolves a few times too. Never made it to Villa though. WM Police were twats as you probably know!

@@justmehere3411 Thatchers years were hard and poor times, you were the odd one out at our school if you didn’t have a dinner ticket. Your mom sounds just like mine was, we never had a lot but what we had meant our parents went without. I remember we all used to swap clothes. Track tops would really do the rounds. I saw a Fila bj mk2 go around about 7 different owners once. Remember swapping a Lacoste polo which I had swapped for a kappa roll neck for an old pair of red Munchen that were a size too big for me :) Too easy to dress now, hardly any individuality , all you need is your phone. Like you say you had to search for clobber back then. I loved that part, travelling around for something different. Went to yours a couple of times in 87/88, league and cup. I remember you bringing a very big mob to Villa park that season, that was a fun day. What a time to be young, brilliant days that will never be repeated and we had the rave scene just around the corner too. Happy days. Take it easy mate.

Liked the photo around 2 minutes in, lads in a furniture van probably going to an away game. Done it myself in lower leagues trying to sneak in and park up - mini buses were a dead give away and might be trashed or tyres slashed before the game ended.

The early 80s was always Italian sportswear Fila, Diadora, Elesse, Sergio etc with Pringle and Pierre Cardin , Lacoste sweaters then late 80s Best Company, Pop 84, Ball Jeans, Chevignon, Chipie, Marco Polo, Radio, Ton sur ton, El Charro, Lois jeans, Benetton etc before the Stone Island, Cp company, Paul and shark cloned brigade took hold and it was never the same after that

Top line looks good , bottom line okay until it gets to Benetton...after that it goes downhill .....but you forgot the suede patchwork tops that looked ace with Lois Cords and Borg Elite Golds ...good that you give a nod to Ball jeans .

What isn't shown on here is the Stanley knife slashes, the 14 legs all kicking the same head, the guy who needed to learn to read and write again due to being hit with a discarded roof tile on the head, the mob handed thievery from stores, the alcohol misuse, the wanton vandalism. I was part of all that but you know what....I f##king loved it.

I had a pair of Adidas Sao Paulo's, Lois jeans, Sergio Tacchini polo shirt and Ellesse track suit top for home games. Away games: Diadora with Levi's, Ivan Lendl Adidas tennis polo, Fila sweater and Fila ski jacket. My absolute king of kings was an Australian tennis polo by Alpina that hardly anybody knew what it was and a Cerruti 1881 track suit top. Back in the day all the gear was properly made in Italy or France or Germany and even Fred Perry was still made in the UK. I wouldn't buy the crap Fila makes in Asia nowadays with somebody else's money and up to about 15 years ago Fred Perry was still using quality cotton and making quality polos that could be bought for thirty or forty quid.

Nicked my dad's Gabbichi cardigan that had brown suede stripes on the front. A year before wouldn't have been seen dead in it & then I'm strutting about in it like I owned the place. 😂😂😂
@petervokes13642 жыл бұрын
Had a beauty similar sounding Gabbichi , that was high neck zip up . Nicked it from a local old man's clothes shop in 84 . Unfortunately just a slight bit too small . Sold I'd to a mate after a month or two . Lost touch with the kid till last year . Turned out he still had it . Still looks stunning . Unfortunately miles too small for me now .. otherwise I would have made an offer for it back ..
