CAT 299D3 Will it push in high range??

I'm still getting to know this machine, but I frequently catch myself accidentally leaving it in high range. I've never done this with another brand because they were geared too high or so underpowered you always knew you were in high.

They aren't cheap for sure, but with proper maintenance it should pay for itself. Prices have increased since I bought this one.

How easy is it to change the implement? Is the quick connect manual or hydraulic? Thank you

You simply press a button. It's electric over hydraulic. The key to it functioning properly is keeping the moving parts free of debris and keeping the locking pins well lubricated. Performing those two task should provide you with trouble free operation.

I'm curious if it would cause a problem, I've just accidentally done it several times in high and it's like the machine automatically drops a gear. I haven't operated another machine that would allow me to forget I was in high range because they were so weak. And if I misunderstood your comment and you were literally referring to the noise coming from the machine, I'm taking it in soon for a fix that is supposed to reduce the hydraulic noise resonating to the cab. @@theMTNman I hear the normal whining noise. My understanding when you lug a hydrostatic drive system is you are making a lot of heat, and might even be cavitating your fluid. But as a layman... Just sounds hard on machine. Not a pro. Thanks for video

I don't know either and wouldn't recommend running in high other than during travel, it just impressed me. Was experimenting the other day hitting a pile wide open like an amateur and the machine wouldn't die. That's one of the reasons I always hated CAT. I worked with some very experienced good operators and they couldn't keep them running, ease into a pile and maneuver the bucket and the machine would die.

Sounds like your equipment supplier will not want to support you if you do these sorts of things to your machine

Not part of my daily practice, I was just surprised that the CAT will push in high if you forget to change gears. Other machines I've tried would hardly move themselves in high range unless on level ground. I think its pretty incredible that the CAT has the power to push dirt let alone up an approximately 10 degree slope. My dealer really believes in the technology in their machines and I have reached out multiple times about things I was attempting to do and he replied, "If the machine will do it, do it, if it won't, don't do it." He refers to their units as smart machines and other brands as dumb. He told me the computer recognizes the loads and forces and won't allow the machine to do anything that will damage it. We have over 300 hours problem free hours on it.
