I have an adult cat and he was also suffering from megacolon for 2 weeks. Was not eating anymore so we put him on a subcu fluids to hydrate him. 2 enemas did not help him. However I researched articles and videos and stumbled upon a comment saying that we can try giving him Miralax powder(for humans). I was skeptical at first but it worked. It took 2 weeks before getting my cat to poop a lot. Hope this help!😺

@@xyooj101 there was no exact measurement. I just make sure that his food and water always has the powder. Took me two weeks and gone through probably about 4 packets (there are 10 in a box) before I saw any result (started pooping again) *my cat's weight is about 3kg

@@frothylatte I tried using surelax too. I think it's fine,as long as you check if they have the same ingredients. Surelax and Miralax are different brand but is the same medicine. I haven't tried other laxative apart from those though

I have a rescue baby kitten and she suffers a constant constipation no matter what she eats. Vets in my country are not so good and there are only a few of them around here so taking her to the vet didn't help as much as I hoped it would. Great video. Our farm kitty was hit by a car. Now her tail drags. She is inside for healing. We add olive oil and water to her canned wet food. Going to add broth. Take her for walks to move her colon. She eats grass and that helps move her stool. She is still going strong. Soon to be released back outside on the farm. She now has a healthy fear of vehicles so she stays away from the road. She will be released outside soon to mouse again, eating live rodent meals from the woods.

Angle has been constipated since I got her in 2008 I think the gang bangers that had her tossed her around and hurt her tail area since she doesn't want to be touched back there, she also has pica & I have to watch her especially with carpet, I had a refrigerator delivery and the mantianace guy had 6 teen's bring it up & she hid for hours looks like she tore up a plastic bag and probably ate that normally she drinks alot cuz I use half distilled/spring water & it's still hard slivers I also use fish oil & vet's best hair ball and digestive aid but she hasn't gone since Monday night and doesn't appear to be eating, I'm a disabled senior so this is going to be expensive gave her fluids last night and this afternoon have an appointment at 6:15 wonder if I can use a children's enema? Thank you doctor for the educative videos, for the advise. I have a very old cat. He is Prince, 16 years old and I have him since he was born. I love him more than people can understand. He has pets wellness plan, at to date with vaccines, labs all good..except of heart murmurs. Vet said it happens to all elderly cats, normal. To watch for worsening symptoms..so all.good until severe constipation..Just realized that he wasn't going for probably couple of days..just urinating. Up until last night, he went to use the box and yelled an bloody murder!! sounded so painful, so unbearable. Notice a tiny peace of dark poop out the box, like he pushed it so hard and flown away. pick up..it was lethal, pointy kinda sharp and hard as a rock. I just gasp..I know it is not a good news. I will do all the home remedies to aid him while I get him to see a vet for evaluation. I hope that it is not a tumor..his twin sister died of lymphoma and one of her symptoms was rock hard poop.. Any how, I appreciated for your advise. I had subscribed. I also have special needs dogs.. I may need your advise on them too. Although they have vets, and referred-seeing multiple specialists allover utah..still no one knows one of healthy dog is losing mobility in his two back legs. multiple.x-rays, sedation and manipulation..CT Scam..multiple neurologist, orthopedic surgeon..NADA..I'm broke and just medicating him with gapentin 300mg twice daily and rimadyl 100mg also twice daily.. no availed. She need to go to the vet asap. Water from a syringe will not be enough. Does she eat at all? Cats can get something called hepatic lipidosis and it can be fatal.

@@laurah6381 she also gets food through the syringe, baby food, fish water full of protein, and pumpkin to loosen her up. She is able to jump onto beds and move but not so steady at the moment, I'm going to give her an enema with a contractor vet willing to help for free since I know him but going to a vet here is 4 to 6 grand for just the initial treatment

Our cat has been blocked for about 7 days. We took her to the vet. Vet took an xray. There's an obstruction and she is dehydrated. Vet gave her a saline solution. The vet gave us lactose and we are to give it every 8 hours as her last chance. Vet said blood work and ultra sound needs to be given. She said that cat will most likely need surgery otherwise she will die. We can't afford to pay for any more appointments. No income since unemployment was cut off. We don't know what else to do. We appreciate any advice.

Few things that worked amazingly well after MANY months of failure: : 1. Going to edit my #1 from probiotics to a good high fibre cat food that is also urinary health balanced. I got a vet food for digestive health and now even without probiotics my cat is 100% constipation free ( he had chronic constipation before). I found out that even though we may be giving the cat wet food etc if its not high fibre then it won't make a difference. May be a bit pricier but 100% worth it in the long term. I use: Royal Canin Gastrointestinal food ---Please, please, please also ensure your cat food is balanced for urinary health since cats are so prone to getting urinary crystals 2. Exercise, if your cat is lazy and doesn't play much buy one of those fishing line style toys with a feather at the end of a fishing wire and really entice them to play for a good 30 mins a day. Makes a world of difference. Also making sure your cat is drinking water is pretty important.

I feed my cat this diet twice a day and I give him wet food mixed with water once a day and he has had no issues since.

In July of 2020, my cat who is 11 years old and has 3 legs had issue in passing his motions. His weight is 8 kgs. He passed some of his motions in the toilet but then came in the room and was passing motions again while he was lying down during which he was panting for breathe with his mouth open, drooling saliva, breathing 60 times in a minute. It took him 20 minutes to come back to normal whereby he was breathing 30 times in a minute. Since then, this has occurred once in 4 months. Since then, I'm feeding him less dry food and more wet food. Besides this condition, he is passing his urine and motions on a regular basis without any difficulty. Is this a serious issue? Try Benefiber. That’s what my vet suggested. Mixing it in wet food or giving it to your cat via mixed in water and administered with a syringe by mouth. I use distilled water.

Thanks so much for the help! I have a 14 year old tabby cat and he has been occasionally pooping outside the litter box- always at one of the entrance doors to the home. He’s an indoor cat. I noticed the poops are always extremely hard and dark. I’ve also noticed he is throwing up a lot lately. Fish oil gets digested and absorbed so won't help constipation. Hydration is key and fiber or parafin-based paste might help. If these tips aren't helping, or he seems unwell then you should contact your vet

My 4-month old kitten hasn't pooped yet in three days now. She regularly poops every morning. I did not know what happened to her, but on her first day of not defecating, she was limping a little. She didn't eat any but she drank water. She slept all day. Second day, I tried force feeding her with pumpkin puree and she ate. She also drank water with diluted dextrose powder. She couldn't walk and still limping but not too much unlike on the 1st day. Now on her third day, she ate wet food and drank a lot of water. No limping anymore. Also, she had no problem peeing, her pee is normal. Vet clinics are all closed because there's a community quarantine in my place. What else can I do?

We took her to the vet these 3 days but nothing seems to be working..today she was given suppository 2 times but no result.. The doctor also inserted a big object inside and injected some medicine. I noticed my cat became severely constipated after I have her the dewormingg medicine. Anybody else noticed that? What I realised is western medicine can come with side effects and we should only use it when absolutely necessary and not otherwise. For example my cat did not have wormss in her poop so that medicine was unnecessary and I should not have accepted giving it to her. She did not have constipation before the medicine. Now she s bloated, her belly is so big and cannot poop. I 'll try oatmeal pumpkin and fish and see what happens. I m not saying not use medicine, but only when absolutely necessary as it can come with a lot of side effects.

My cat is having serious issues. He's 11 and has arthritis (confirmed by vet) and she gave me Laxatone along with Gabapentin for his pain. How long does it take generally for a cat to pass stools with this? It says to give the proper dosage in a syringe (but I just dab it on his paws and he licks it up) "3-5 days until stools soften." Tonight would be the 5th day on it and he still hasn't done it yet. Little advice?

It sounds like an enema could be needed. 5 days is a long time

My 13year old male nueterered house cat has never accepted set cat food since we got him at 12 weeks old, I'm concerned that as he gets older this will impact on his health, he drinks filtered water and has a constant supply, he recently cut his paw pad and had to have it bandaged as there was some slight infection, I realized that his litter tray had become stained and he had probably been scratching the stained area getting law dirty, I changed the box instantly buying him a new bigger box for litter as he is a large cat, however I have noticed he is not deficating as much these last few days he continues to eat his dry food and some boiled chicken, can you recommend those liquid paraffin treats please, my husband says he is using his box but I don't know if because it's larger his output is actually less or I'm imagining things

If his stools are not really hard and dry then his output is likely fine. A mild laxative paste that cats tend to like is laxapet which you can find on amazon here - amzn.to/2Stv6Bt sure your cat is drinking enough water is also vital. She probably missed a meal before the surgery so I wouldn't worry if it takes a couple of days for the first stool post surgery. Especially as it sounds like she is doing very well otherwise

My Gizmo has had lymphoma for 2 1/2 years now and we are due to have our 3 monthly meeting. But since a few days he seems constipated. Yesterday morning he pooped on the floor twice within about 10 minutes and the individual poops were almost like a full normal size dose. After the second one i noticed there was some blood. Gizmo also has kidney problems. The vet said there could be many causes and said to give him ground flaxseeds with water. Apparently there should be some geld if you mix the two but somehow it's not working. Also is fishoil a good thing?

Have a baby kitten. Rescued. Hes small, too young to be without mom cat. He has a prolapsing anus. He is about I'd say six weeks old or less, his eyes are open. He has diarrhea and sits in the pooping position constantly. His poop was mixed with a little blood, the hard stool came out and then the diarrhea behind it, but he's still sitting in this position. Is there anything I can do to help this kitten?

I think that might help with diarrhoea, NOT constipation. the rice would absorb any available water. water needs to be in the bowel to help elimination.

@@99shoebox Oh gosh you're right. I should have all that straight. Help for active tummies. We used pumpkin to help the older dog avoid having "constipation" (not really, but for other reasons so it wasn't as difficult for her to go).

My cat just started eating greenies dental treats a few days ago- less than reccomended servings. Shes 5 years old. Yesterday i noticed shes been extremely constipated. She just squats in her litter box(for a few minutes in the same position) . I only noticed this yesterday. This morning shes still just squatting. Shes still eating & drinking. I just added water in her Wiskas soft food and shes eating that fine. Ill take her to the vet tomorrow if nothing has changed. Is there anything you can reccomend until then?

My cat had an enema done on her as per doctors advise. I trust the doctor a lot so I let him do that. After administering enema he put his finger inside and started helping my cat to defecate. Is that the proper way?. It's just a mild constipation nothing serious. My cat started vomiting and there was blood in her liquidy poo when she got home. I feel so sorry for my cat. And I didn't know how it's supposed to be done but my cat was lifted up in the air with arched back while it was done to her ☹️. They didn't even cleaned her up after. They just put her back in the her cage. I'm never going back there ever.

I personally would never do a digital rectal exam in a cat that wasn't anaesthetised or heavily sedated at the very least, unless I was worried that that would be too risky

I swollen belly is not normal in a normal case of constipation or diarrhea. I'd recommend calling your vet at the very least

Rice constipates. It is in the BRAT diet for humans to stop diarrhea.

I cannot afford the vet. He’s having problems pooping and it’s inflamed his anus. Today I gave him tapeworm, roundworm and parasite medicine to cove any parasites. He drinks an enormous amount of water. He is obsessed with drinking water. He also pees giant softball sized clumps in the litter box. Is it unordinary to drink that much water and pee softballs? my cat seems to have choronic constipation. she gets constipated if I don't give her medicine and for this reason she has to take medicine on a daily basis. even the vet said that there's no treatment for permanent constipation. she will keep getting constipated till she's alive and the only way to avoid it is by medicine on daily basis. is that true? 🥲
