Quick tip: When you cast out & lean your rod against the rail, I'd recommend scooting the butt of the rod away from the rail a little more leaving less of the tip sticking up. If you don't, a large fish can use that tip sticking up as leverage and pull your rod into the water. I had that happen once. It happened so fast that it took a few seconds to realize what just happened. I literally did not see the rod move even though i was practically looking right at it...it was there one second and gone the next. I know that you loosened your drag, but I did too. Having said that, I appreciate all of the videos & information in them that you've been posting! Thanks!

Another type of chum I have used to catch 200 Catfish in 4 hours and 3 fisherman. Go to a feed store and buy big bags of Range Cubes used to feed cattle. When you arrive to your fishing spot and throw it out in a wide area and let them sink and wait a hour and throw your baited lines and you'll be happy for hours. Another my Uncle's taught me 55 years ago since they used to do Commercial Fishing.

Love your show. Longtime viewer. I grew up in Jacksonville Florida. Under the times union building there’s a tunnel coming into the Saint Johns River. take our boat into the tunnel and it opened up into a big bivouac style tunnel. I would bring rocksalt and cans of cat food. We would pop holes in the cat food and throw them in and throw rocksalt around them. I would light a lantern and wait about 10 minutes then start doing my cast net. I would fill my cooler up in about 20 minutes or less. Some casts had over 100 shrimp. It was fun. From there I moved to the Virgin Islands. We would fish north of Saint Thomas the catch huge yellow fin tuna and mahi mahi.

You are absolutely right, there is always something new to learn about fishing! None of us know it all. I have been using cat food for chumming for years. It works well in either freshwater or saltwater. First time I have seen your method though. Besides using cornmeal, oatmeal works as well. Another trick is make it into balls and then roll it in sand to give it some weight so it will sink. That Deep Chirp is really cool, I will be checking it out! Great video Skipper!

@sandzaquatics19413 жыл бұрын
So to concentrate the chum, get a coffee can, drill holes in the side and attach to the can. Put your chum in it and it will not drift and create a source for the smell. The method you are using won’t concentrate anything in the area so the scent trail constantly drifts away
@unamordiezdose5579 Жыл бұрын
I freeze my chum into separate Ziploc bags, and keep them in a deep freezer. Then when I'm gonna use them I'll take 3-5 blocks and I keep them in an ice chest with dry ice. I don't want them to start to thaw until I put it in the water. And even then I want it to be so frozen it dissolves more slowly. I'll put a block in a bait bucket with a bunch of ice. And tie it to the boat or pier or myself and let melt right next to me. Like this it takes a good while to completely thaw and melt away. When I gut the fish, every one is full of chum. It causes a feeding frenzy! I'll put all the best keepers on stringers and keep the biggest ones for my "limit" fish and the rest go free to catch another day. I never thought of using cat food before. I figure even the dry food in a bait bucket will get soggy and break up slowly. I'm always learning and sharing what I've learned. May we all have tight lines and full bellies! No hate. Amen

With a bread mixer and raw wet clay. From the yard or river clay. And mix cat food dry. Alfalfa pellets rabbit feed size and the clay. 50%clay,25%rabbit feed,25%catfood. Make thick pancake sized disc's and let dry in the sun. They sink and don't break up inthe water. Last for hours. Even pogey oil you buy in a bag and pin hole in six spots and let it slowly mix in the water on the bottom of the area where your throwing your net.

Normally, you mix a binding clay into the bait ball, that keeps it intact and weighty. We also let them dry in the sun before using. Surprised you can net over bait balls off a pier. In SC you have to have a permit to net shrimp over bait.
