Ran the same test using the DCD1112 (12amp) dewalt charger. 5AH PS charged in 42 minutes Vs 46 with DCD118 (8amp) charger.

I love the power from the graphene and charge time but the weight? Damn😂. That’s a hefty battery. Absolutely love the testing methods. There’s always room for error but your margins in that area are quite small if any. Great job brother. All this information is more than helpful to us in the trades or someone that’s looking to get into a new tool platform. I’d say the Graphene style packs would really shine on rotary hammers and circular saws. Very high demand situations. Thanks for the video brother. Looking forward to catching up on your content

Yeah its a lot of weight, I agree rotary hammer or a circular was would probably be the best application. Hopefully they continue to grow the line. No problem! Thanks for watching.

Glad to see this. Very curious about the testing. I've been curious to see if this was a legit graphene battery or mostly marketing about using graphene without its actual use in the battery cathode. It seems strange that CAT would be the first company to be successfully make use of that battery technology in power tools.
@Tools-Tested
@Tools-Tested Жыл бұрын
Yep its hard to truly say without cutting it open, but with the fast charging and low temps makes me think its legit. But I agree seems kinda strange CAT is the one releasing this tech, but maybe they are the test. We still don't know what TTI's answer is to the PowerStack and Flexs Stacked Lithium
@ccbowers
@ccbowers Жыл бұрын
@@Tools-Tested Seems like Positec is behind CAT power tools, like Worx and Rockwell before them. Legit company, but still surprising. Now, there may be good reasons why other companies like TTI hesitate to be the first here. There are potential downsides/risks. Pouch batteries themselves have a reputation of being less durable and concerns about longevity that we haven't seen yet, because they are still new to real world use in these applications. Combining this with graphene adds more uncertainty
@mos8541
@mos8541 Жыл бұрын
well "cat" didn't do anything the Chinese/Taiwanese.. and until they OPEN THEM UP they're NOT graphene... AT ALL.. aren't you curious as to why all the shipping, MSDS, etc. dont mention "graphene"

@@mos8541 Why does the presence or absence of graphene depend on if you open it up? Schrodinger's battery? Makes no sense. They are obviously different if they charge so rapidly- in his testing. Far faster than standard lithium ions. But that seems to be the main advantage. The tools themselves seem, meh.

Yep would have never thought CAT would be the first. I couldn't believe the charge time, big question will the life of the battery suffer. It's interning they claim 4x the life over lithium.

It's not that insane, a Bosch 8Ah charges 50% (4Ah) in 15 minutes or 80% (6,4Ah) in 26 minutes at the same weight. And it has 60% more energy in it when starting at full.

Wait wait wait, is there actually a commercially available graphene battery? How? When? What are the specs? Charge and discharge curves? Temperature ratings? Power density? Cycle times? CAT offer no information, and I can't find a cell manufacturer. As curious as I am, graphene doesn't seem to promise anything beyond readily available LTO battery cells so it's probably not worth it for me to buy a CAT battery to disassemble.
@ccbowers
@ccbowers Жыл бұрын
I am wondering if this is mostly marketing with graphene material tossed into a pouch cell bettery vs actually utilizing graphene in the battery cathode for actual benefit to the battery performance.
@Tools-Tested
@Tools-Tested Жыл бұрын
Yeah its hard to say without cutting it open. It's defiantly going to be more challenging going forward, considering 18650's 21700's are common cells so plenty of data. As of right now it looks like the pouch power tool cells are proprietary. Yeah the CAT line is small and also looks to be dated, seeing other countries have had the tools for a while now.

Graphene LiPo batteries have been around the RC world for at least 6 years. It's not a graphene based battery, it's a standard LiPo with some graphene to lower the internal resistance. Still debate about whether it's just a marketing gimmick or not.

What I want to know, is are these batteries or supercapacitors? Supercapacitors are bigger and heavier for the same amount of power, and they don't have a half life like batteries. They can also charge and discharge rapidly without taking damage = giving you that immediate kick on a circular saw. This rapid dump damages batteries. I suspect inside are graphene supercapacitors and not batteries at all. Why aren't companies combining supercapacitors with battery technology? The supercapacitor can be connected to a controller that can sort of kick it into another gear when the battery strains to start up, or when we push the motor hard quickly. Eg when you start up a circular saw, introduce load, cross over knots, or push the blade too hard - the supercapacitors would do the load dumping to give the motor the rpm boost, and the battery would maintain rpm's... Does that make sense to anyone? I'm not an engineer lol.

Pretty impressive performance from the graphene battery. With such a short charge time would be interesting to see how hot it gets in comparison to the other manufacturer's batteries and what the charging characteristics are. I wonder if that will shorten the overall life of the graphene battery in comparison?
