Ah man this one gets me - I did the same thing with my 18 year old cat who had been suffering with renal failure. He was always VERY food motivated and he remained that way for about a month when he was really sick so I stuck it out, I slept on the floor with him because he couldn't get on the bed and he wouldn't sleep without me, I gave him meds every 4 hours and made sure he was comfortable because he was still eating. The day he refused to eat and didn't blink when I shook the treat bag I knew it was time. I'm so happy Hank decided he wanted to stick around even a little longer.

It's actually because the shampoos and conditioners smell too strong for him, and it's instinct for him to neutralize his scent. Also, it feels odd on him, so he feels "dirty" or not right, so he cleans himself. It's natural, and he definitely needed help with his mats, but it's the truth. :p

I used to do this for my diabetic senior cat, Loki, in his final few years of life. I couldn't stand to see his gorgeous coat go to shambles, so I groomed him myself to make sure he still had some pride. Unfortunately, at 19 years old, he lost his vision and could hardly walk anymore. I couldn't stand to see him like that, so I had him laid to rest. For 19 years, he was always there to greet me, along with my late wife, when I came home from a deployment to some god-forsaken place. I buried him with as much honor and dignity as I could in my backyard in Moscow. Thank you for doing this for this owner, they appreciate it more than you know. I'm sure Hank does, too.

I can assure you, there is a lot that was lost as a result of that stroke. It is possible he could have lost hearing, sight, sense of feeling in places, smell, and more, and to varying degrees. These are all things that would not be evident by watching this video, yet are definitely things that can be affected by a stroke. I promise, his funny gait is not the only thing that happened as a result of that stroke.

Animals do what they have to do to live their lives. Once had a cat who had a stroke which left her very weak on one side. Turned around to find her coming down the stairs, her weak side leaning against the wall. Tough girl, but the sweetest ever.

That’s exactly what I like the most about cats - most dogs love every human they meet, but a cat builds a specific relationship with you. When a cat comes running over to you meowing, with its tail up, you know it’s thinking “Hey I’m glad to see YOU, friend!” vs a dog’s reaction of “Person! Ooh person! I have just met you and I already love you!”

His eyes look unhappy, though. I have a cat like that - when something is going on that she doesn't like, she just gets really wide, unhappy eyes but doesn't tend to fight much. Glad to see he looks happier later on, though.
