Aww I'm both happy and sad to hear that. It's a wonderful idea but I just don't know that I'm going to get to "unlock" it's full potential. I'm sure many others will end up in that same boat.

Thank you, this was a fantastic review! As someone who was taught spades as a child by my dad in the 70s then grew up playing it every Friday night with the family, and just discovered Cat in the Box with friends and thought the same thing as you about their similarities, I appreciate you drawing the parallel along with the mini demo of both games. I’ll be watching for more of your videos!

Interesting to go to Spades before Euchren or Hearts! I love regional trick-taking preferences!

I've actually never played Euchre, and I feel like Hearts is a less-similar to CitB than Spades, since in Hearts you're trying to AVOID points.

I do own and love this game. I do understand the dilemma of the 5 card sets. But I just have to make sure that I try to mitigate that in my hand at the beginning and end with the discards. I have played Spades w/ people who know it backwards and forwards. They can be tough to beat. With this game, I will always have that chance of being triumphant w/ thought out play and strategy. Thanks! I'm having some people over on Saturday and I'm really hoping to get this to the table. "The Crew" was a big hit for two of the people who are coming, with one of them telling me how much they love trick-taking games. I personally have had a couple of trick-taking games fall flat for me. But I'm a math and science nerd, so the concept really fascinated me, and I then watched a video of a group playing it, and I thought that this is a game that I really have to get. I think that the more experienced people in my group will be able to grasp it. I'm not sure about one or two others. Worst case, I'll have to save it for the right group.

Nice review, Jeff! I've thoroughly enjoyed this game in all of my plays. I do agree that sometimes bad luck can hit you pretty hard, but lots of trick taking games can be like that. I find the ones without perfect information like this one let me have more fun just being social instead of bending my brain, trying to piece together every bit of info I have to win.

Jeff here! I started making content for Board Game Breakfast back in October-or-so of 2020. Tom invited me in March of '22 to start making reviews for the channel. Another excellent review! I personally hate trick-taking games, but Claim is a really good 2p-only trick taking game. We even have the pocket version in a tin-box, which is great for travel.

Good review, I had mixed feelings about this game but it's worth having. Have you ever played Anansi? I've never played a trick-taking game where you bid along the way.

I like spades and have played a lot of it. I pre-ordered cat in the box based on it being like spades. I hate cat in the box though. It is a disjointed mess in my opinion. The spades half of the game feel tacked on and could have been replaced with many other mechanics.
