I've spent over 30 years in the seat of dozers and got my first crack at a D6XE just today. Count me among the impressed. I first noticed how nimble it is compared to the Rs and Ts I ran before. It's so responsive it feels as though it weighs half as much. The cab is a major improvement, and even though today's machine had over 5000 hours on the clock, there wasn't a knock or rattle anywhere. Cat finally solved the brakes. There was no such thing as easing into the brakes on the previous models. And thank God they did away with that jarring alarm when you turn the key. I found comfort in imagining the Cat engineer that came up with that will spend eternity in hell listening to that alarm go off once every 10 seconds. Forever.

Great to finally see the D6XE, sorry I couldn't make it to Vegas for this event. Looking forward to adding this to our fleet!

Wonder if this one will be running in 40 years like the old D6Cs and D6Ds, I doubt it, all I hear about these new dozers is you can't keep them running from electronic problems.

@brdman The Cat mechanics can't even fix them. As for me I'm to old now for this new stuff, I'll stick to my D6C, 215b and my 22B draglines, Ain't enough work around here to ever pay for one of these new machines anyway.

@@joshfriend7103 we had 5 of them I literally had every one on the available to mob out list that i had on my site. the uptime availability was about half or a little better then the equivalent machine. I have run the d7e and was not impressed with the dozer's ability. It might have had more to do with the single lift cylinder but overall not that impressive. Hopefully this D6 improves on that.

electric drive has been proven in every locomotive for decades and the enormous front end loaders used in the mining industry have electric drives.

Why don't they make a lithium ion battery dozer?
@notorious_tbageryt11153 жыл бұрын
The cost of fuel compared to electric which you can capture is greater then the cost of mechanical issues that can be fixed with some education. I hope we can put these to work clearing forest in California ! I'm tired of all the smoke from fires . Plus we should be building new water sources for resources

You know I've worked on 7g, 6c, 6d, 7f, 9u, 6r, 6t, and some of these old ones have proven 50k frame hours. I've seen 28k on a 5ln 6r, but that machine was toast. The electronics and emissions have killed cat. 5 ecms in a dozer is a joke, I won't lie; I sit on a damn laptop more chasing fault codes than anything. IT SUCKS

@@doon714 Sure! It happened a while back I don't know why they couldn't do it with their own stuff but if you look at a picture of the 'Cat' locomotive, there on the front is a subdued EMD logo. The company I work for bought a new d6r in 1998 and we put 15,000 hrs on it with no engine or transmission issues. I think we put 2 sets of tracks on it and rebored walking beam once and did all the blade bushings a couple times but that thing hardly ever missed a days work in 16 years. We traded it for a d6t in 2014 and the t is a good running dozer and uses about 2 gallons per hour less fuel than the r did but seems to have a lot of electrical issues. Some sensor will through a bad signal and then it will derate itself until you figure out what the problem is and replace it.

Why not replace the Diesel Generator with an appropriately sized Microturbine Generator? Lower maintenance (almost nonexistent) ZERO Emissions BS, and possibly lower fuel consumption with the ability to burn almost any fuel.
