For people who are concerned about cleans, I have an answer. The pedal itself is a combination of a Catalinbread CB30 with a Naga Viper. The original Galileo had knobs for basically everything but Howard realized that it was too much. To get cleans you need to roll back your guitars knobs. No matter what, you’re going to get a cranked Vox sound even if the pedals gain isn’t at max.

Even with the muddiest cleans since Nirvana that pedal does a good job of the May AC sound.

Great sounding pedal, but the Joyo AC Tone is really an AC30 in a box...and much more. It's a clone of the Tech21 Liverpool SansAmp. For $30-$40, you can't beat it. You can get the sound of Beatles, Queen, U2, and more!

lookmanostrings something is clearly wrong with this setup. The internal dip switches might be set all on high.

@Ari Parker I think you're on to something, because he's got very strong pickups in his strat. They are pushing the amp just on the "clean" setting. But the thing is, if he hits them hard then he's creeping on OD tone. So that's why I say it's not clean, as you mention it is slightly dirty. The problem with this sort of thing is that you're already pushing the amp and adding color, *then* you engage the pedal. So is it really what it's going to sound through a truly clean amp? I say no. He woke up in 2nd base and says look this is my 1st base position. LOL.

I use an 18v power supply for my pedal and I still get an enormous amount of hiss, is there any way to avoid that hiss? The amp I’m using is a Vox VT20X, should I be running it through a tube amp?
@MarshallGTV4 жыл бұрын
Catalinbread says in the Galileo owner’s manual that this pedal is their AC30 circuit combined with a treble booster, and that combo inherently generates ton of noise.. it’s not the power supply, it’s just the circuit.. two ways to combat that is to turn down the gain or use a noise suppressor..hope this helps

Rickenbackers are surprisingly more versatile than people think. It's just that people have unfortunately typecast and pigeonholed them as nothing more than clean jangle guitars.

Great review mate. Could I just ask - when you turn up the gain at around 3mins and it gets a little hissy, how loud is the hiss when you turn your amp up to playing volume? Is it bearable or does it get obtrusive? Thanks!
@DaveDexterMusic7 жыл бұрын
Brian May's referred to his treble booster pedal(s) as a "snowstorm in a box". The man himself gets noise, it's probably unavoidable if you're going to do it right.
@johncecilia45172 жыл бұрын
Could add a noise gate pedal
@cha02psc2 жыл бұрын
@@johncecilia4517 I’ve found after years of gigging with it that the solution with this pedal is to power it off the battery rather than the mains. You still get the TB hiss that Brian gets but it’s not quite as obtrusive as when the pedal runs off the mains. It’s a great pedal though I would definitely recommend it.

I wish people wouldn't do demos with Strats and then load them up with humbuckers. That might just be me.

It was a good demo, don't get me wrong! But I play a Strat and I'm always wondering what dirt pedals sound like on them because usually people tend to use Les Pauls with a lot of these types of pedals. Strat single coils are their own thing.

What amp are you running out of?I'm trying to get a sound like yours out of my AC30, and it can't get anyway near this sound. With the gain all the way down on mine, it sounds barely dirtier than clran, not even a crunch. Are you running yours on top of a driven amp?
@MarshallGTV8 жыл бұрын
Just a clean profile of a matchless amp on my Kemper.. it's the box that does all the work!
@petersouthern72277 жыл бұрын
If you put a treble booster pedal into your AC30 you'll get closer to the sound. It does help to have the amp cranked ,but that isn't so practical for anywhere but stage use. I've seen other people with this setup using attenuators with an AC30 allowing them to turn the amp up full but lower the output to a manageable level.

it is noisy when you turn up the gain... try backing off the gain a bit.. or you can use a decimator or something like that
@TheRealSlickRick637 жыл бұрын
MarshallGTV with gain all the way down, it is closest to Brian May's sound. If you are running into a clean amp, then this thing is way too gainy to be effective .
@TheRealSlickRick637 жыл бұрын
Catalinbread pedals usually have dip switches inside. Have you tried those?

Brian always called his booster a snowstorm in a box so it's kind of supposed to.
