The only problem with Andy's demos are that you can't go on them alone. You have to watch other demos by regular, normal, everyday players to see what its actually gonna sound like.Andy could plug into a cement block and make you wanna buy it.

Picked one up ... Didn't realize how much gain this thing really produces. This is Def not a dirt pedal in any way. Expect to get floored lead tones out of this pedal even with gain all the way down. You will find yourself dialing down your volume to try to clean it up. So to those looking for more of AC30 jangle, this may not be your pedal. but for those tone trying to get full on cranked ac30 tone as if the amplifier had both normal and brilliant channels all the way up.. and also had a boost or a tube screamer in front of it...this is your product. I find myself setting up this type of rig on amplitube and Guitar Rig so that's why I picked up this pedal.

Today I tried this pedal with a ts9 (booster) on a Stratocaster highway one USA. It's okay for Brian tone, but NOT if you're looking for versatility. The integrated treble booster makes that tone knob unusable from 12 'o clock to 6. I'd buy this pedal for 100$ (for playing Queen songs), obviously not for his actual price. Switching on this pedal after a properly settled ts9, it deletes every previous sound setting. The pedal manages to emulate THE BRIAN SOUND, at the risk of overlooking and cancel/override your actual setup sound (guitar, other overdrives, amp).

Great sounding pedal, but the Joyo AC Tone is really an AC30 in a box...and much more. It's a clone of the Tech21 Liverpool SansAmp. For $30-$40, you can't beat it. You can get the sound of Beatles, Queen, U2, and more!

@jessebreuer80888 жыл бұрын
I have this, and find it a little disapointing that the tone knob does not turn down enough to counteract how shrill it really is when the treble booster is up. I know it says they copied the ac30s treble control, but the ac30 also had a bass control. In rewatching this I notice that you are never on the bridge pickup with the guitar volume and tone all the way up and the treblebooster all the way up. Im guessing that must be the key to getting a usable tone out of this, turning down or going to neck pickup, which sounds like bridge pickup when treble booster is up.

I'm looking into buying a Catalinbread Galileo, but I can't find it being compared with/to the Cornish, Frye or Dallas Rangemaster-level treble boosters; Is this just a cheap version of those? How does the Galileo stack up against the ones I mentioned?
@guyr.c.6068 жыл бұрын
I have the Menatone 'Top Boost In A Can' its the hand wired 5 knob version and I can set it up to mirror the Top Boost circuit of my '66 Vox AC30 TB which is pretty cool, but I can't say that the pedal has captured the complex overdriven character that this Catlinbread Galileo has. But am I comparing like with like?.. Brian May plugs into the Normal channel, boosted by his 'always on' Trebleboost pedal , the Top Boost circuit is removed from the amp as it's not needed so I'm assuming Catlinbread's circuit is the Normal channel and not the Brilliant circuit Menatone cloned. Unfortunately you can't adjust the Brilliant input to sound the same as the Normal,Ive tried with the Vox and the pedal, its just very handy to gig my vintage Vox and if I can't crank the amp I can use the pedal for the gain Catlinbread are getting these very tricky nuances down to a tee I'm blown away really. I would love to do an a/b with the Menatone and Catlinbread but for now I'll just enjoy the sound clips..

That, if you're even still using this account, is because he has shit settings on his guitar. Not the right switch configurations for the right songs. And you'll need an AC30, and to fuck around with the knobs for a while...
@davelanciani-dimaensionx7 жыл бұрын
I agree. Remember, in the studio Brian May most often used a very small amp built by Queen bassist John Deacon - it was a single tube 1-watt amp. That's what he used most of the time to record his harmony parts and overdubbed solos.

probably a silly question but does this pedal work well on a pedalboard after a wireless setup ? i find many treble boosters dont :( great video !
@bpabustan8 жыл бұрын
in many cases especially Brian May's, his treble booster is connected to the guitar first then comes the wireless system transmitter. His booster is taped to the guitar strap. If that is the case then I guess all treble boosters will not work after the wireless system......

Does anyone have tips for tweaking a Brian May style setup? I have a Strat, an AC30 and an HBE Germania but it all sounds so shrill, piercing and fuzzy together, it doesn't really have Brian's warmer sound.
@jessemaes199010 жыл бұрын
Is it a newer Vox? They sound shrill and thin all by themself. 60's and early 70's AC30's are the best you can get, the early 90's reissues are pretty awesome as well. But the main problem is probably that you'd have to be running them at earbleeding levels of loud to get to Mays sound. A nice smaller tube amp and a pedal like the Galileo will probably get you a lot closer at manageable levels.
@closertotheheart10 жыл бұрын
Jesse Maes Thanks! Yeah it's a CC2, which I'm guessing is pretty new. I had a feeling the volume factor might have been part of the issue. I'm just surprised how all of these elements put together just seemed to go in the diametric opposite of the sound they were supposed to make. I really did get closer with a Tele and a Boss OD.
@endezeichengrimm10 жыл бұрын
***** You shouldn't have to crank the volume though. Amps these days should have a master volume that will let you bring the loudness down, and keep the gain/tone. Unfortunately, I can't recommend an amp for you. You'll have to find that on your own. I use a Mesa Mark 5 and it works for me to get the tone and gain I need at a very low volume.
@Lieutenant_Dude10 жыл бұрын
Keep the ac30, have an overdrive pedal that you like, and make sure you use either humbuckers or single coils wired in series. Strat single coils are wired in parallel, giving it a quacky quality when two are on, instead of the roar you get from two single coils in series like a humbucker has. I'd mod the strat if I were you.
@closertotheheart10 жыл бұрын
Endezeichen Grimm Nice! Yeah I have a Mesa Express and pushing that with a Tele and another overdrive seems to get a nice, warm drive. Come to think about it, I think I've made the amp and strat work together before with a different overdrive. I guess I'm just "picky" about gear when really sometimes the cheaper option is better haha.
