I just had this done on LH shoulder a week ago. 52 yrs old, painful osteoarthritis for years, B2 Glenoid - 15deg retroversion, Humeral head worn bone to bone, prior labrum repair 12yrs ago, knew this was coming. I wanted a stemless system which has less risk of fractures and comes with less post recovery restrictions, and more robust revision options (at least 20yrs down road, hopefully). The multi plane humeral component that preserves the bone and maximizes surface area contact made sense to me vs just lopping off the top of the Humorous.. Due to Glenoid, the overlay seemed more reasonable to me than flush systems which could just keep wearing glenoid bone away.. The 3 angled pegs and chamfer around glenoid perimeter to minimize rocking horse loosening (hopefully - seems proactively engineered for this). Sent me home same day as surgery with pain pump for 3 days and Oxycodone as needed. Had really zero pain, even after pulling the pump, stopped oxy same day. Starting PT in a week. Posting because i couldn't find a lot of info out there directly from patients and thought it might be helpful to others.

Hi, how you feeling now I need shoulder replacement , so wonder if satisfied with the surgery?

@@ericdh65 Sry for delay in responding. Left shoulder doing great. A small amount of pain left when extended under load but it is diminishing with PT. ROM doing good as well, can reach around my back, can reach stuff on high shelves. It felt good enough that I had the Right side done a week ago (3 months after left}. This one seems to be following similar course. Nerve block wore off in just over 24hrs, pain pump for 3 days, then stopped the pain meds. A little swelling /bruising in biceps area but normal. After doing this twice now. I can tell you the surgery and immediate recovery are relatively pain free which sounds silly given that the surgery is rather significant but it's true. Let me revise that slightly, when the nerve block wears off you'll feel some uncomfortable tightening. I used the turbo feature on the pain pump and it was back to no pain in 1/2 hour. The only other issue I had in both cases is the constipation from taking oxycontin (even with using stool softener). It resolved itself day after stopping pain meds. Recommend getting a nice recliner, power is better and a good ice machine. Good luck !!

it's been 3 months since I had the right one done. It has quickly surpassed the left in ROM, pain, strength. The glenoid had less retroversion on Right. The left progress feels like it's stalled, hurts a little bit when extending it. Not terrible, just lets me know it's not done healing yet. Feels like tendon type pain. Doc said the anatomy just "worse" on Left side but didn't really elaborate. So glad to be free of the arthritis pain though.

What are your restrictions once healed? Can you lift only certain amounts of weight? Is your ROM the same as it was when your shoulders were normal? And one more, how do your shoulders look, physically, after the healing?
@christopherduke2177 Жыл бұрын
@@302hobronco Went to Doctor last week for 4 month check on Right. He cleared me for both to do whatever I wanted, no restrictions. In last week, I moved 4 yards of dirt by shovel, 5 yards of mulch, went bowling yesterday for 1st time in over a decade and feel awesome (135, 132). First 2 frames threw gutter balls while I figured out how to do this again...lol ROM question. Normal was a looooong time ago. Better than the last decade for sure, probably not same as when I was 18, but I don't feel restricted really. Helped a lady reach the top shelf at store today. No way I could have done that prior. Physically as in the shape, they look very normal. Just a 4" scar on each shoulder. Gosh I wish i would have done this sooner.....

I'm a candidate for a reverse shoulder, 18 yrs ago I had a humeral head replacement and the glenoid resurfaced to match, about 3 yrs ago I started intermittently having shoulder pain and that has progressively gotten much worse. The surgeon I have now is scheduling me for a full reverse shoulder because of the thinning Scapula bone and the amount my humeral prosthesis has worn into the glenoid cavity of my scapula. I am still a very active 61 and at least as fit as the most fit 40 yr olds I know, from the research I've done it seams like I will loose a lot after a reverse shoulder, is it possible that I could be a candidate for the Catalyst Stemless procedure, I looks like I will would be able to maintain most of my shoulders natural mobility?

At 61 years old these comments don’t make me feel warm and fuzzy with my pending reverse shoulder replacement 😐

What they don’t tell you is that the glenoid implant may come loose if you are even moderately active. No more real weight lifting. No wrestling or Jiu Jitsu, no boxing 🥊. Pretty much a shitty situation

This if this were to ever happen you will have to stop doing all the fun activities, I feel sorry for everyone who does have this
@bodie96763 жыл бұрын
Most folks that need this can’t do those activities anyway. Hopefully this would eliminate pain just from day to day activities.

@qazaq empire alga Yes , it’s called a partial shoulder replacement. Just the humeral head is replaced. No plastic put in the socket or glenoid
@proplayer3412 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what my ortho told me, these are not for active ppl

Just starting to research... a question for whoever may want to try and answer. Do you consider wrestling, boxing, weight lifting to be moderate activity? I'm 66 and have never done these activities and don't plan on starting. :) I do want to be able to pick up heavy things, and lets say shovel dirt for a good long period of time. Also use a weed wicker or raking in the yard. Thanks for any replies.

I'll stick with the Ream and Run replacement no limitations
